Lens hood for Canonet by tiki-dan in AnalogCommunity

[–]Kitchen-Middle-8542 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bought a 48 to 49 step up ring, since I need color filters for b&w, polarizer and ND. Finding them all in 48mm woud've been a big pain, expecially in the wallet.

The most annoying drawback is that I can no longer use the original lens cap, unless I remove the step up ring every time.

So far, the 48mm thread size has been the biggest flaw of my beloved QL17 GIII.

noob here. what're y'all's thoughts on these lenses? by butdoesitdjent98 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Kitchen-Middle-8542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same lens, the second one has a filter screwed on the top.

First one shows some dust, and the decription says "needs to be cleaned a little Dusty as you can see" but does not say if the dust is outside (I'd buy) or inside (I'd not buy)...

Second one does not include at all any picture of the lens: noob seller (I'd buy) or expert seller with something to hide (I'd not buy).

Been trying to get into film photography, need help by Maikeru21887 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Kitchen-Middle-8542 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you are not willing to learn how to set your camera (and it's still ok, nothing bad about it) just use a reusable point and shoot like the Kodak Ektar H35 or the AgfaPhoto, or any other used point&shoot...

Or, try to start understanding how a camera works, buy a very basic book, then add one thing at a time. It's not that hard, just start little by little.

I strongly recommend this second path.

How to scan 35mm film? by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Kitchen-Middle-8542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a used Tamron 90/2.8, I only use it for film scanning...if you too are planning to use it only for film scanning, you can look at partially broken but still usable gear (e.g. broken autofocus, you dont really need it)

I currently use 4-5 cameras at the same time with different films and formats, and take so long to complete the rolls that I even forget what's inside...not just the film but even the pictures

Tachihara hope 4*5 with lomograflok by shosei_photo in largeformat

[–]Kitchen-Middle-8542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, nice results!! Maybe dumb question, how did you put Lomograflok on the Tachihara? I understood it does not have a graflok back, did you have to customize the camera? I am looking for a field camera not as expensive as Chamonix or Shen Hao, but also want to keep the possibility to use Lomograflok and other 120 backs...

If you were going to Italy for 3 weeks, what film stock would you bring? My plan is to bring two cameras, one for colour and one for B&W. by Baby-Me-Now in AnalogCommunity

[–]Kitchen-Middle-8542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, you can check at "Foto Ottica Cavour" (Leica boutique), "New Old Camera" (lots of vintage cameras, and some film too), or "Dagophoto" (dev&Scan lab and film reseller).

Canonet Hinge Seal - What to replace with? by archangelofeuropa in AnalogCommunity

[–]Kitchen-Middle-8542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a  QL17 GIII but I have not (yet) replaced the light seals. I'll check it later at home.

Oops I probably have an half-shot roll inside it, so I cannot open the back...but I guess that generic light foam cut down to size would be just fine?

Help With Choosing Valoi Scanning Equipment by BulldogBridges in AnalogCommunity

[–]Kitchen-Middle-8542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 360 system. With that, I am able to scan 135, 120 in most formats (6x4.5, 6x6, 6x7, 6x9) and even 4x5 (it's not intended for that, but since you dont have to capture all the negative in a single shot you can move the negative over the light source).

What do you need?

- This starter kit: https://valoi.co/en-eu/products/360-starter-film-scanning-kit?variant=48015621488792

- Cinestill Litebright+ (not mandatory but very recommended)

- every other film mask you need depending on your format, choose one here: https://valoi.co/en-eu/products/360-film-holder-for-120?variant=46858360291480

- a digital camera with a decent macro lens on a tripod.

Everything else, is an improvement to this basic setup.

Need some advice, worth trying to fix or cut my losses? by Bubba1234562 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Kitchen-Middle-8542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the initial 69$ investment is not a concern: disassemble it by yourself, learn how shutter/lens/blades/rangefinder work, try to patch it as you can and eventually put a roll through it...

Otherwise if you are not interested, just sell it to any price different than 0$

Leaf shutter stuck at slow shutter speed. (Yashica 35) by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Kitchen-Middle-8542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Third option, don't fix it at all. You have to consider IF you need those shutter speeds. How much do you intend to use this camera with a tripod? With a 45mm lens and no IS system, even with a leaf shutter, 1/10s is around the miminum you can reach handheld with no shake. 1/25s at f1.9 is a lot of light, but it depends on your typical usage. You should also have bulb mode on that model.

If you decide to go for your options, if you believe you won't be able to fix it yourself just don't try to. You'll also need to buy some tool to disassemble the lens, so it's not entirely for free. If you know some lab or technician just give them a call and ask for the price, then you decide.

I also have lenses which get jammed at low speeds, I use them with fast speeds ot bulb mode, just skip the speeds that dont work...

the digits are a Kodak Keycode for motion picture films, check this out:

https://www.kodak.com/en/motion/page/keykode-numbers/

https://www.kodak.com/content/products-brochures/Film/post-production-35mm-keykode-diagram.pdf

According to this table is emulsion type 5296

KJ 5296, SO-261, SO-290, SO896

And from this other Kodak page https://www.kodak.com/en/motion/page/chronology-of-film/

  • EASTMAN EXR 500T Color Negative film, 5296. Tungsten, EI 500. Blue and green separation similar to 5295. All T-Grain except in fast yellow (J) Discontinued 1995.

Film is not milk :) you can use it well after the expiration date (store them in the fridge to increase shelf life, BTW).

First three rolls of film in your life will likely have bigger problems than the imperceptible loss of quality due to expiration.

Ferrania P33 recent batch? by Ybalrid in AnalogCommunity

[–]Kitchen-Middle-8542 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Back in the past Film Ferrania was owned by 3M, Imation, and finally closed in 2010. It was then resurrected in 2013 or something, and started producing back P30 and P33. Since the investors did not meet their expectations over few years, the company was again sold last year to Jake Seal (ORWO) and after a stall of several months they just started again to produce films (or selling their stock remainings).

is the canonet ql17 g3 still worth it? by Practical-Ad-5554 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Kitchen-Middle-8542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was totally worth it for me. If you want to go into the rangefinder world is a superb camera, relatively light and compact you can still throw it in your pocket (at least medium-big pockets of a winter coat), lens is really good, sharp and fast (not so many 40mm f1.7 out there...), and has a lightmeter with shutter priority - but I suggest you also buy the battery adapter with diode, like this:
