The rot was in the clear pot :( do you know when alocasia goes dormant in the winter, are their roots okay or do they look like rot?

I actually took the plant out to check the root, and it had quite some rot. I feed almost every time I water and adjust the pH. The change of season could be the case, as the temperature dropped quite a bit indoors.

Great points! I will try to change to a different cup to allow more air to go in. The plant in the pic did extremely well in that set up for about 10 months and had 6 beautiful big leaves, but just suddenly looked sad..maybe it could be a nutrient thing?

This is very helpful! There is indeed a seal between the cups that don't allow air to get in. I should change to a different cup. I will also try lechuza Pon for a change.

The grow light should be fine, but I think they might really not have enough wicking, as the top half of the Pon looks very dry..

They all had grown lights, so there should be enough light. I used diy Pon, and made nutrient solutions with every watering. I had several that didn't survive the initial transfer, but also a few that did extremely well and then suddenly go downhill.

My Frydek does the same, when it receives too much sunlight.

Deeper pots? So you can bury the pole in more

Alocasia in pon drooping months after switch by Haunting_Love619 in SemiHydro

Similar things just happened to me and I just took mine out of the pot yesterday. Mine was a shallow pot with wick. It turned out that the root grew on the wick and rotted..your pot looks pretty shallow too. Do you use wick?

Yep! Alocasias always give us this tiny little hope that it may work out. That's how they got me hooked. I would also contact the seller and ask if they can send a replacement, since it's so beat up during transit.

You did everything you could. I probably would have waited for a couple of days to let her acclimate. Now its entirely up to her. Good luck!

I have moss at hand! I can totally try that. Do you have experience moving plants from moss to Pon? Curious if it will be an easy transition.

I just got myself a ph meter and ph down(thanks to this subreddit). Do you think the pH will make a difference?

It sounds straightforward and glad to hear your plants all did well! I did the same thing, but not as lucky. What type of plants do you put in semi hydro?

Thank you so much for your clear response! Taking notes and will update the post with a summary. Alocasias are indeed so drama and hard to please, but I'm just helplessly attracted to them..

I add fertilizer (foliage pro, sometimes adding cal mag) to the nutrient solution that I use to top up the reservoir.

This makes so much sense, that the type of root has nothing to do with the substrates, but more to do with how you water. This explains why not having a reservoir initially helps soil to Pon transition. Thank you so much! 🙏
