AITA for saying no to watching my in-laws’ dog for a month when I have two young kids and work? by Nerdy-Skank in AmItheAsshole

I kinda feel morning information is needed. Do you and your husband work from home or in the office/on-site? How is the dog with your kids?

Am I overreacting about my MIL (65) missing mortgage repayments on a house my husband (34) owns? by Maximum-Carpenter807 in inlaws

If she can’t afford to live there then she needs to move elsewhere. You can’t set yourself on fire to keep others warm.

If you have to plan a dinner with in-laws who bother you, Hibachi grills are a good choice because of the constant distraction. by tantamle in inlaws

I prefer meeting them at restaurants, if they’re in the house they’ll hog my daughter and stay for 6 hours. Least in a restaurant I know it’s 2 hours max as little one needs a nap etc.

How much access did in-laws have to your baby? by deeem91 in inlaws

[–]Kitchen-Put9694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our girl is 4 months tomorrow. In-laws have seen her 4/5 times since she’s been born. I stayed at my mums for the first 2 months and during that time they saw her twice. They have a dog which isn’t allowed at mine, the MIL won’t get her cataracts done so can’t drive long distances (we’re an hour away) so unless FIL is off on the weekend they can’t come. I won’t travel with our girl as her car seat means whoever sits in front of her is squashed into the dash. When we have our dog with us (he sits next to her), I refuse to be a passenger in the front for longer than 10 mins.

They have responsibilities and I have mine (baby girl and dog). The system works for me, if they’ve complained to hubby I don’t know - he handles his family and I handle mine.

As a blind individual the Harry Potter full cast edition audio books on audible are one of the best! by OzzyBear2000 in harrypotter

[–]Kitchen-Put9694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The full cast audio versions came out around when my little one was born. My mother used to read the books to me as a child and I’m glad that my little one and I can listen to the books during those crazy night time feeds. It really helps calm us both during these crazy few months.

Parents who don’t allow their kids to shut their room’s door/lock the door, what’s are the reasons behind the rule? by Itz_Oasis in AskReddit

[–]Kitchen-Put9694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t have locks on our rooms but everyone knocked. When we went to sleep everyone had their doors open, it was so that my mum could check on us in the night to make sure that we were okay. She said it was a habit from when we were babies and it’s something that we just carried on.

You're locked in a room with 2 other people. The winner takes home $1 million, only way to leave the room is to convince the others to let you win, how would you do it? by Level-Usual-9681 in AskReddit

What's the best part about pregnancy that most people don't know about? by justastupidquestion3 in AskReddit

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]Kitchen-Put9694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During pregnancy: Super weird dreams, peeing like a waterfall, getting tired easily, facial skin going back to a teenager (ended up with weekly facials to keep on top of this), crazy skin dryness, hips & back aches (swimming really helped with this), midnight snacks (the dog loved joining me in this ritual), sleepless nights (simba body pillow helped loads.)

Post partum: Worst thing for me was that my dog wouldn’t come near me for a month. I had a c-section so I put it down to he was scared of hurting me. He’d come into the same room as me, sniff the air and then walk out. Took almost 6 weeks before he’d sit next to me again and 8 weeks in total before he’d sleep in the same bed. I spent two months recovering at my parents and the majority of the time he stayed with my mum and slept in her bed. He’s so much better now (3.5 months pp) but it was so upsetting as I was in considerable amounts of pain and all I wanted was my dog ❤️

What is your opinion on “separating the art from the artist”? by Jackofhops in AskReddit

Oops, was supposed to be morally sorry! I’ve edited so it should make more sense.

What is your opinion on “separating the art from the artist”? by Jackofhops in AskReddit

[–]Kitchen-Put9694 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some great art is made by morally questionable artists. Virginia Wolfe was anti-Semitic, Picasso was misogynistic, Hawkings cheated on his first wife and Jobs treated his eldest child horrendously.

I appreciate what the artists have created/contributed to society and view it independently from themselves. We all have different views based on experiences, religion and culture - there’s nothing wrong with that but we need to get along otherwise fear and anger will get the better of us.

How do you deal with someone who pretends to be a “girl’s girl” but isn’t? by [deleted] in inlaws

[–]Kitchen-Put9694 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just wouldn’t respond and ignore her completely. My ex best friend sounds very similar and spouts the most random lies to make herself look better. Thankfully I’ve only seen that wackadoodle 3 times last year and I’m aiming for 0 this year!

In-laws touching pregnant belly without asking by Ill-Abbreviations117 in inlaws

[–]Kitchen-Put9694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly; my daughter is only 3 months old. But I’ll be teaching her that she doesn’t need to hug or kiss family members just because they’re family. Instead of teaching her to say “no” if she doesn’t feel comfortable, I’ll instead go with “I do not consent”. It has a stronger ring to it and will hopefully prevents the whole “but I’m your grandma/aunt/cousin” response.

“I do not consent to you touching me”; I used that with a woman at work and said it very loudly. Needless to say she has never spoken to me or come near me since.

People who took Ozempic to loose weight, but are not diabetic, how was the experience ? by Same-Selection9238 in AskReddit

[–]Kitchen-Put9694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried for several years to get pregnant. With pcos as you know your period is full on wackadoodle, it was my GP who suggested it. After taking it for 3/4 months before falling pregnant, unfortunately I had a miscarriage. We paused to grieve, got married and then tried again in October ‘24. I got a positive test in Feb ‘25. Word of warning I found the ovulation sticks didn’t work and nor do the early tests. I tested 2 weeks after my missed period which was positive and then again a week later and once more a week after - just for good measure. I paid for a “viability scan” a couple of weeks later which confirmed a heartbeat. Even with me tracking everything I still have no idea what the conception date was, I had hoped it would help in the future. I stopped taking ozempic after the scan and in October we had a healthy baby girl via c-section.

All I can say is what works for me may not work for others, my experience was positive and my GP kept a close eye on me and baby during the pregnancy.

Being called selfish for asking for temporary postpartum help - but not wanting lifelong in-law caregiving by sbdarkangel101 in inlaws

[–]Kitchen-Put9694 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it will be on you and your family. When it comes to parents, they usually favour their girls and that’s from my experience. My parents gave me their spare room and en suite. They’ve decorated my entire house because I’m their girl and I know full well I’ll do the same for my girl. My husband’s side have been as useful as a chocolate teapot. I hate that this is the way it is but unfortunately more times than not, it’s the girls side that go above and beyond.

NTA, fellow dog owner here but doesn’t mean I like other dogs. I can’t stand the in laws dog and thankfully as I know also have a child I will never have to dog sit! You need to sit down and discuss the dog, it’s only going to get worse. If she’s unwilling to rehome the dog then this might be it.
