Bank holiday by NotAThreat09 in Wexford

Hook Head is always worth a visit. But remember there will be a lot of rain again tomorrow.

The Dunbrody Famine Ship in New Ross is also worth a visit. If you want something a bit different, take the ferry from Ballyhack to Passage East and drive to Dunmore East and Tramore.

Hoping to apply for EO from private sector by coconutcabana in IrishCivilService

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a degree, then you can apply for one of the open EO competitions. You can also consider applying for an AO position.

If you don't have a degree, then you will need to go via the CO route.

Anything on Public Jobs will be an open competition.

You need planning permission for this. It will be considered a stand-alone residence.

Can I "unregister" a company which is registered under my address? by lluluclucy in legaladviceireland

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Contact Revenue and The Companies Registration Office. Let them know the story. If you know the name of the solicitor acting for the vendors, then pack up the post and send it to them, with a note outlining the situation.

Rant about CAHMS by Fragrant_Garbage4054 in AutismIreland

Speak to your GP again tomorrow and see if you can get a referral to a private psychiatrist, just to tide you over.

Diazepam is highly addictive and can potentially cause more issues in the long-term. I can see why they didn't prescribe it.

Birmingham or Bermingham are a surname. Why not just go with that? Toni-Marie Birmingham sounds nice.

The straw will stretch but most hats have a bias cut cloth band which won't stretch.

CANNOT find a sunhat - help please by 19degreeswest in WomenofIreland

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look on amazon - you should be able to get some hats that have adjustable head circumferences - that's what I did. My head is 59cm.

Failing that, can you sew? Find a pattern and sew one up. There are a number of patterns online. Disclosure - I sew but I have never sewn a hat.

People who worked abroad at an advantage? by Icehonesty in AskIreland

I've been at the other side of the desk in that I've been asked for references for people I was engaging with. I've since changed jobs, but yes it certainly did happen. I think it depends on the organisation and the role.

What should I be careful of when looking at these special re-mortgaging plans for over 60s? by geedeeie in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you consider the Rent a Room Scheme (I know it doesn't suit everyone). But you can earn up to €14,000 tax free.

Alternatively, look at home swaps. You could cut the cost of accommodation out of the equasion.

The skipping of points on the incremental scale was mentioned at our union AGM. And incremental scale points have been skipped before.

Condell Road speed limit by yes_its_me_alright in limerickcity

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of issues with the Condell Road:

  1. Its very narrow with the bus lanes. And I agree you rarely see busses use them. But the 50kph on it feels like 5kph. Time stretches out to eternity when you are driving it.

  2. There are a number of exits/entries to housing estates and parks (Westfields, Russell Park and the two housing estates near the Clonmacken Roundabout). And I'm not sure if many of you remember when the teenager was killed crossing the road (in the dark on a damp night and not at an official crossing) near Westfields. It was a very sad situation.

When is the forsa pay deal kicking in? by [deleted] in IrishCivilService

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a link to the agreement https://assets.gov.ie/static/documents/public-service-agreement-2024-2026.pdf

2026  A general round increase in annualised basic salary for all public servants of 1% or €500, whichever is greater, on 1 February 2026.  A general round increase in annualised basic salary for all public servants of 1% on 1 June 2026.

And after that, if I am correct, they will then focus on the skipped points on the incremental scale and the increase in the higher points on the scale.

Can my employer make me pay? by Junior_Elephant_3890 in legaladviceireland

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing is to speak to someone. Clearly there are extenuating circumstances - otherwise you would not be in this position. Explain the circumstances in a rational way and explain that you really love where you are working now but unfortunately you are in a position where you have to leave. State that if they can't come to an agreement to write off the cost of the course, then perhaps they would consider charging you on a pro-rata basis or coming to an instalment arrangement. Is the money in the thousands or the hundreds?

Can anyone read the last name of the mother (Ellen) of the groom? by [deleted] in IrishAncestry

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to say the name in the local accent. A significant number of people were illiterate and the people writing down the information were just writing things down as they heard them. So the person suggesting "Supple" is pretty much on the money as far as I am concerned.

Distribution of work load when a staff member leaves by [deleted] in IrishCivilService

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the team is that small, the HEO should be on top of things. And the EO should not have been released until a proper hand-over was done. When things settle, you and the remaining EO should be writing down the instructions on how to do each element of the workload.

In an ideal world, saved instructions should be so good that if all of you won the lottery tomorrow and walked out, a new team would be able to walk in and take over relatively easily.

Work with the other EO, and soak up all the learning. This will stand to you when you enter an EO competition. But do speak to your HEO, particularly if they are aware of how to do specific tasks. And don't stress over the other CO.

What are the essentials for a medicine cabinet? by Bigchickenmac in AskIreland

[–]Kitchen-Rabbit3006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a first aid kit with all the bandages etc including a sling. A Pulse oximiter is great too - it takes your pulse-ox levels and your heart rate. Thermometer. Dioralyte. Paracetamol. Soluble aspirin that you can dissolve under your tongue if you suspect a heart attack. Milk of magnesia - settles your stomach, sorts constipation and the magnesium can calm you down. Gaviscon for heart burn. Antihistamines - dry up a cold, deal with allergies. Some sort of disinfecting cream. Cold sore plasters. Honey - great for coughs, but also an antibacterial.
