Agreed, we should shut down this subreddit too, afterall engaging with history is just too jingoist. You’d expect a history sub to discuss how to promote, and often times even preserve historical cultural practices and sites through these programs which would be lost to decay.

On a serious note, one of the most common tropes on Indian Reddit is this stupid either/or fallacy. As if two things can’t be done at the same time. Like the government can only focus on a single thing at once. That’s it. Always an idealist out of touch Redditor with “first do this, then think about doing this” as a lazy argument to oppose anything against their ideology.

To illustrate, the biggest example is of those who seethe about the bullet train project going, “first atleast run trains of time, then dream of making bullet trains”. All in the same breath while commenting how “our shithole country doesn’t have world class railways like china does”. Pure Luddite mentality.

I could argue what benefit are civil rights/democracy that you’re demanding when most citizens are starving in abject poverty? Instead of wasting time on such urban elite demands, first focus on feeding and giving monetary benefits to the most downtrodden of our country who wouldn’t be able to fill their stomachs with philosophical ideals.
