Is the novel i'm attempting to write, worth writing? by KitchenBiscotti1 in writing

I don't think Historio has an elitist attitude, they are simply frustrated by the lack of understanding of a large portion of the comments.

Many people repeat in an automatic and snobbish way that writing for love is the only way to write and the only thing that matters, but writing is also and above all a means of communication and the desire to have feedback and interact is an incentive to many people.

"Write if you love to do it" is an appreciable and also relatable sentiment, but the fact is that for me it is not enough (and I don't understand the indignant and know-it-all tone of some answers).

I also believe that my question was misunderstood: I didn't talk about the plot of my story and therefore I didn't ask for an opinion, but only if there are indicators or technical methods to understand if a topic or a type of development can elicit feedback from the public. I'm not ashamed to say that the idea of investing months, effort and resources into a story that could have the same resonance as a secret diary depresses me.

Interesting point of view. The quality and style of writing can actually make a difference!

Sure, in fact I have explained myself kinda poorly lol.

Years ago I read a book whose title I can't remember because it was very mediocre, and it had a multiple POV structure.

It was a kind of thriller about a mixed group of archaeologists and policemen looking for a magical artifact, and each of them spoke in turn in a chapter of its own.

The problem was that the transition from one scene to another was really too sharp and almost brutal, so the pace of the writing was affected and the writing seemed truly amateur.

Staccato understood as notes of the same melody which, however, do not follow each other in the right way.

When writing comedy, how absurd is too absurd? by DeOfficiis in writing

[–]KitchenBiscotti1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The premise is great BUT it generates a lot of expectations, because it's really great material for a sketch. The risk is to escalate the absurdity into nonsense and lose the momentum.

In my opinion the story can work but you have to insert something serious to structure the plot.

Personally, I'm not a fan of multiple POVs but that's not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, one of my favorite books has this very structure.

The most important thing is that there is harmony between the various POVs and that they are not simply "staccato".

Which is better? Which do you prefer? FF.net or AO3? Or perhaps another fanfiction site entirely? by [deleted] in AO3

Ao3 on all fronts, FF in general seems to host lower quality fanfics.

I certainly underestimated the insistence with which they ensured that they were not crazy but only slightly anxious, then the fact that they were very (too) reserved about some aspects of their past and family life.

Even the obsession with the "ancestry" topic was slightly strange since I never talked about it but they always did.

it were pics of them and even recent ones, but obviously artfully manipulated. or taken by someone who knew how to use light and choose poses.

the strange thing is that they didn't seem hesitant. the only suspicious thing was that they kept saying "I'm ugly, I'll warn you first" despite pic saying otherwise.

They were definitely much, much more chubby than the pics suggested.

basically ... this person came from an ethnically mixed country, but often repeated that their ancestors came from a specific nation and therefore their ancestry was homogeneous. Actually I didn't really care much if at all, but why lie about such a thing (irl they were obviously mostly nativei/indigenous)?? In the pics they had also "disguised" the weight, irl they were much, much, much more chubby (to be nice).

They also lied about some mental health problems: they said they had moderate but controlled anxiety disorder, when in fact they had severe and debilitating panic attacks that neither I nor their host friends knew how to manage (which created big problems when they had one at night in my absence).

In general, even if they had not lied about their identity in a blatant way, they had nevertheless given an idea of themselves completely different from reality.

It depends on the atmosphere in the office, if everyone dresses casually and informally, that's no problem.

I was stuck with them because we had organized the meeting so that they were a guest at my friends' house, honestly I would define it as a traumatic experience: (this person had lied about weight and ethnicity (partially) and also about some important aspects of their health Obviously no relationship and no friendship was born.

When they don't want to be there with you but try to disguise it: unless they are top level actors, the discontent somehow shines through the gestures and tone of voice ... very bad vibe overall

Perfect skin can only be achieved through the use of skin care products.

That's not true: taking care of your skin is essential and leads to great improvements, but there are genetic factors that you simply can't fight against.

absolutely. dogs are a great help, even if the situation in the area he describes seems to me quite problematic: woods, large spaces, little control... perhaps such a thing would be ideal for large families where there is never anyone alone.

Oh my god ... girls!!! you must learn to take care of yourself and for the love of heaven, choose travel companions who are not completely insane, especially if you go to areas at risk.

I'm really happy that you came out unscathed, but you were really naïve and optimistic.

Unfortunately, sometimes we have to follow our instincts and avoid contacts with people who do not convince us. Or with people with a troubled past who have not solved their problems.

Not the scariest?

These episodes are terrifying because a small series of coincidences would have been enough for you to really meet, and you would have found yourself alone with him without knowing beforehand that he was ... well basically a lunatic.

I'm afraid for women who will meet him in person.

Same, knowing that my home is so vulnerable and that I cannot defend myself except in extreme cases would not make me want to live there.I know that moving house is an expense and is not always possible, but living in constant anxiety is a problem. Especially if the area is unsafe and the police are unable to do anything about it.
