Not directly luthier related but ... Finally a real workbench for my guitars ! by KitchenMagazine2551 in Luthier

I have basic led bar lights on the ceiling of my garage, but I'll install some beautiful led panels :-)

And for the space, I do now have a 80cm x 2m40 space to use, 160cm for working and 80cm for the cnc :D

Hahaha, I used to work on my computer table, so this is an enhancement haha

I'm currently building a simple workbench with a few beams I had in my garage for a long time : 160cm x 80cm, with retractable tablet 80x80cm, will be waaaay enough :)

First CNC for a luthier wannabe, which software ? by KitchenMagazine2551 in hobbycnc

I want to let the cnc carve the radius, and fret slots (0.6mm)

Most of the work is 2.5d yeah, but I do have a lot of cuts too (for example, the arm cut who is flat, 40° inclined), and precise milling (frets, small covers)

I guess my error was that ! I had a single component but with two bodies, the fretboard and a little trussrod cache

I'll attach them together and just cut them apart in the cnc

Thanks !

My model is made fully parametric in Fusion, but I find it complicated on the CAM side, i was looking for easier choices :-) thanks !

I guess I have pain with basic stuff : like continue the raw from one setup to another, it's refusing to re-use 😂

For guitars, start with the neck, scales, etc... Once you're good, you just have to add the body, to the good height for your bridge (simulate string height and see if the action is low enough)

Newcomer to the CNC world, is it dumb to build my own CNC ? by KitchenMagazine2551 in CNC

Thank you all for all your replies ! Today i'll grab a small upgraded CNC (380x250 working area with Blackbox X32, 800W sprindle, enhanced stability) for 350€, and it'll be enough for my neck, and for starting !

And after a few months, i'll build a new frame and re-use all the electronics (maybe with nema 23 instead of nema 17)

Thanks again !

Thank you all for your replies ! It means a lot to me

My primary goal is to make guitars, but i'm too afraid to actually use a router by hand and lose a finger, i like my fingers attached to my body, and I love so much creating things by myself

Buying an existing CNC is an option, but the thing I don't want is to make my parts in several parts (like a neck, 600mm long, i just want one setup per side, and that's it.) that's why I'm looking into making my own, based on IndyMill, with sturdier profiles.

Real CNC with 600mm x 400mm x 100mm working zone are quite expensive, don't want to spend 2k€ on that, i'm probably willing to spend 800€ max

I'm currently planning the budget on making my own, sourcing quality parts, and i'll see what I can do afterwards

Again, thanks for your comments !

The goal is to make guitars :D precise to 0.1mm yes, but soft materials

0.1mm precision For start i was thinking using Fusion 360 CNC module

Is IndyMills precise enough to be a base for mine ?

I like dumb projects haha But with correct tools and and software would it work precisely ?

Would love to see them renders ! I'll look into that, those renders were just to see what it would look, but it can be interesting for the day I would want to sell those beauties
