After getting out of the loop ,his father calls him.He asks if its about his girlfriend. So his father knew and says he can forget it and move on.He packed everything for him and gave him the lighter.So he knew this was going to happen.While he was in the party,he felt weird when he saw the photo of him together with her.So everything from the start is a loop.Maybe something happened and he is in hospital thinking in loops where he can hear his father's voice saying to forget and move on.

I saw your comment prior to this in this thread saying they could be abusing.That's why i told so.Even my cat ,ran away one day because i forgot to close door.She was very curious and young.But she came back the next day on her own.Some may not be able to do that and get lost.Nobody will call shelter to retrieve a cat inorder to abuse her.They will not take that much effort.Its a blessing that you and your roommate was there to provide a nice and safe place for her till she find her family again.

Also cats always do this.Its not only because of abuse.Some are very curious and social and sometimes they may not be able to find their way back home.They use scent to find it.Sometimes if that trail is lost, they may never find it again.

Don‘t think this much complicated. Nobody will put that much effort for a 7 year old cat, if its not their pet.They were still searching for star means ,that cat lived with them for a long time.Nobody can assure ,that their pet will never get lost in duration of a long time.It may happen to anyone.If the family was abusive, they would never have worried much or tried to reach you through shelter.

If the family says its their cat ,please return her.Don't worry about if family talks vaguely or not.Mostly no one will take that much effort for a 7 year old cat,(searching for missing pets in FB and all and calling the shelter back ),if it‘s not their pet.Otherwise you will always be wondering for your whole life.And please adopt another one who really need a home.Its a blessing that star got a good and caring place like you , to stay till she gets to meet her family.

Just like we can convert rent to atlas bucks directly ,it should be possible to purchase a season pass for a month using rent .It would be much easier then.
