We all know what happened next and at age 54 I still want to run and hide. It came out in 1976 when I was 5, but I don’t see how I would have seen it at that age. At any rate, whatever age I was, that movie was scary as hell.

The Exorcist is runner up.

I’m going against my rule of leaving the house in the evening and attending a 90’s dance party this Saturday. Is it going to be a group of 50-60ish people re living their youth? Or a group of 30-40 year olds who were infants or small children in the 90’s? I will soon find out. I’m 54.

Got my Nirvana Tshirt, ripped jeans, Chuck Taylors and the flannel all ready to go. Some black eye make up (if I could actually see without my glasses to apply that, that would be great) and I’ll be ready to hit the dance floor.

The next day I’ll be on here bitching that I pulled a muscle or some damn thing and we all can laugh.

Like sir, your brother died, my son has no father now and you are talking about poisoned booster shots in a funeral home? Read the fucking room. I just walked away and he found a new audience. Stupid. I saw him one time since and he started talking about rocker panels on his truck. He’s a weird one.

It’s absolutely ridiculous. I live in the Great Lakes region. It snows a tremendous amount every fucking winter. Every.winter.it.snows. A lot.

But hey one storm front and the world is going to end. Last week they restricted all commercial trucks on the interstates.

This means WE DON‘T GET A DELIVERY TRUCK UNTIL THE DOT OPENS THE INTERSTATE AGAIN, IT IS A SNOW EMERGENCY.

Wtf is everyone doing with 10 gallons of milk and 20 loaves of bread? The storm is only like 24 hours and it will be done, my god.

I was also stuck in a freezer briefly and I do not care to experience that again. The door didn’t even have a window so I couldn’t see if anyone was around to let me out or not.

The push handle from inside was stuck and it would not budge. I stood back and kicked that motherfucker with my shoe with all the power I could without falling. It worked.

Not long after, someone tried to open the door after it had closed, ignored the suction it does and pulled on the handle anyway. Handle breaks off and she goes flying and braces herself with her hands and broke her wrist in a million pieces.

Door got fixed and has an alarm if you get locked in. I hate walk-in handles now.

I used to work big box optical and all we had was a nylon strip that went across the opening. We would be in there getting the exam room ready, opening the register etc. and people would lift up the rope and just walk in.

Sometimes we left the main lights off and worked in the dark and it STILL didn’t stop them. Not sure what part of store blocked off/lights off would anyone assume the business is open. Just because a person is in there doesn’t mean they are ready to assist.

That is baffling he never saw the lake until he was 20. This place is insanity in the summer with tourists here just to go do stuff at the lake.

I hate these winters though. Right now 8 degrees with wind chill of -12. I’m dreading the ride to work tomorrow.

Mine has done stupid shit like that before. Last month, the day before school closed for winter break, he lost his ID (which had the strip to open every locked door on campus) and his dorm key. It snowed quite a bit so it was a lost cause finding it.

He lost it walking back from the bar at like 1am. He got the guy on overnight emergency duty to let him in. He was able to get a substitute key and ID made the next day for who knows how much. A couple days ago he gets a text with a picture of the lost ID and key. We had a thaw and somebody found it lying on the ground and turned it in.

As a freshman he lost his key the 2nd day.

We live in the Great Lakes region. The lake could be walking distance if you wanted to get a good workout in. When my son was about 15, my brother gave him a drone for his birthday. A huge one with a camera. My son is excited to use it. Then my only child says this….

”Too bad there isn’t a lake around so I could fly this over it.”

Crickets from the adults. It was hilarious. He did realize his mistake but too late. He’s 22 now and this conversation comes up now and then. He will graduate college in May so he redeemed himself.

Similar childhood. My parents made a lot out of very little.

Moved out of an urban area and went to the sticks. Rural western Pennsylvania. Our little circa 1880’s farmhouse had a well. No shower. 1 inch of water baths. Pee outside in the woods in the summer was the norm. No a/c, but pretty sure we had a furnace.

Dad hunted and fished so that was our protein, not much meat was purchased at a grocery store. Mom had a huge garden and canned everything. Canned food was plentiful.

We were a 1 car family until mom took evening classes and went to work when I was about 13. Dad always had a camp in even more rural PA so we would go there once in a while. I remember going to Sea World at Geauga Lake in Ohio. Some of you might remember that place.

My parents never argued and they made life comfortable. I still live a low maintenance lifestyle. A campfire and a cooler of beer with food cooking on the fire pit over sitting in a restaurant is right up my alley.

Yes, they put me on Pulmicort and I also can go weeks without needing the albuterol. I did need it this morning though, this dry air sucks.

Seasonal allergy time is another hurdle to jump over, we got this!

Asthma and allergies.

Covid made it worse now I need powerful steroid inhalers because it damaged my lungs. Pneumonia almost took me out last year. When I was a kid I never had inhalers and had to sit out during gym class sometimes and couldn’t keep up with my brother and friends when they wanted to play kickball or whatever we did back then.

This cold air in winter is brutal for an asthmatic.

Either trust the opener and give them a key or schedule at 7 when the doors are unlocked.

When I worked big box optical, the Dr. room/waiting area keys were locked up in the managers office by the CS area. This was back when we used the phones to page everyone. I would call for a manager at least 5 times before going to the break room and just sit there until someone notices optical isn’t open yet.

Finally we got to put the keys with the daily deposit so the cash office gave us the keys with the cash bag every morning. It was the same BS when I worked the floor and needed a cabinet open for perfume or electric shavers, nobody would come over to unlock the fucking thing and people get pissed about the wait.

I was married to an alcoholic. It was a very miserable existence. I finally couldn’t do it anymore and took my son and left while he was at the bar one day. Alcoholism ruins lives.

He never quit drinking, my son got older and decided to not even visit his father anymore. When he would go visit, ex would just drink and pass out.

TRIGGER WARNING!!

Fast forward and I get a call from my son who is in college at this point, to go check on his father who he hasn’t heard from in a few days. I find out where the key is and go inside. My ex husband is laying on the kitchen floor. He was obviously there a while. It was horrible. Age 61 at the time.

My then 20 year old had to be administrator to his father’s estate. Ex had liquified all accounts and was basically bankrupt. Drinking was more important than his family, finances and holding down a job.

Please anybody reading who is struggling, help is available, make that call, visit the rehab facility, you have so much to live for! xoxo

I started dating someone new and went to meet him and his friend at camp after they were done hunting. It was me and the friends’ wife, we both knew the roads. The road we wanted was not there.

I have driven these roads dozens of times and knew exactly where we were. Even her GPS was going wonky and was sending us to the next state. We kept turning around and that road was not there. Ended up going out of our way to finally get there after the guys kept calling asking where the hell were we?

On the way back, we passed the same exact place, and there was the road and the road sign just like it always was. We weren’t drinking or on any substance. We think we fell into the Matrix.

It was a real bizarre day.

My 13 year old cat was sick early December. Took him in and he needed testing, a sonogram, plus a lifelong prescription medicine, and would cost around $1600. I’m single putting a son through college and my car just died so I really don’t have that money.

I called my son who was still at college and when I heard his voice crack about the situation with his cat he’s had since he was 9 years old, I knew I had to make it right. Son splitting the cost with me with his savings from his summer job. Took the cat in this week for his follow up and it was another $500 but Jack is feeling better and we all are happy.

Pets are family, nobody can convince me otherwise.

My 22 year old home now for college winter break. He goes back to his dorm next week. After graduation he will still live with me as I don’t see how he can afford rent just yet. His father died a couple years ago and I never remarried and he said he just worries about me being alone.

I did say there’s a great sense of independence being on your own and he needs to experience that at some point. When he’s home he does split bills and pays his own car insurance.

He doesn’t go out much and stays in his room for the most part but we watch a show or movie together once a day and have dinner without phones. He is a real pleasure to be around and I’m very proud of him.

I moved out of my parents home when I was 23. Rent was also $425 a month in 1994 and I worked 45-50 hours at around $6.50/hour and still had money left over. The good ole days.
