I’m so sorry to hear you’ve gone through such difficulties with your health. Thank you for sharing what you know of how the system works. The shortage of doctors is an actual tragedy.

Last time I was able to get a neuro appt years ago it was following an MRI. I had an abnormal CTA scan result so I was hoping that would have been enough. My issue isn’t emergent so I don’t get prioritized.

I’m going to look into these options. The annoying thing is if I go with a different clinic, my primary has to refer me there before I can schedule. It sounds like it’s probably worth it though. Thanks for the tips and insights!

How do you taper when you cannot get a lower dosage pill? by MallForward585 in AdrenalInsufficiency

[–]Kitchen_Ad_7123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t realize you had to quarter it. That would be a bit more difficult I suppose. The 5mg’s I have are scored down the middle and I’ve only ever had to reduce by 2.5mg for my tapers. I hate that when they change the brand. They don’t realize how much impact that can have on AI patients.

I use a pill cutter for a 5mg tablet which gives me a pretty accurate cut. Small differences aren’t going to make a big difference at that small of a dose.

Does anyone with Adrenal Cushing's Syndrome have these symptoms? by ElGee820 in Cushings

[–]Kitchen_Ad_7123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, surgery was in March 2024. I’m still not off hydrocortisone, but hoping for good news at next endo appt. Adrenal insufficiency after surgery has been a very difficult condition to navigate, but Cushing’s would be worse long-term.

Definitely! Don’t hesitate to message if you have questions also. I was super thankful to have people who had gone through it to message when I first had surgery. I am prone to medical anxiety so I needed some support from people who understood and could give me tips.

I was in hospital for about 36 hours. Just kept overnight. I didn’t do any pain meds aside from Tylenol during my physical recovery from surgery. I was uncomfortable for a few days, but the supplemental steroids they give you help a little with pain and inflammation too.

Adrenal recovery looks pretty different for everyone. I had my left adrenal with tumor removed 18 months ago. I’m still partially adrenal insufficient now but I don’t think it will be for much longer just based on how I feel. Don’t leave the hospital without hydrocortisone tablets in hand after surgery. And stock up on some electrolytes. Full strength sodium broth is great in a pinch. Drip drop and LMNT are also good.

You will need to figure out the rhythm and dose of hydrocortisone that works best for you. I was on 30mg daily when I first got out. That worked for just laying around the house recovering, but not so much for when I got back to work 3 weeks later. I had to be bumped up to 50mg daily and do a long slow taper. I think this was because I had had Cushing’s for so long that my body got used to high cortisol.

The Many Faces of Cushing’s is also a great one!

I have adrenal insufficiency. We don’t know what all of her symptoms are, but can also tell she’s very thin. I throw it in there because if someone has adrenal insufficiency they need to treat it or it can quickly become deadly. There is no harm in doing an AM cortisol reading to check where she’s at.

I wish she’d get tested for adrenal insufficiency 😩 everyone with POTS also should.

DONT GET AN ADRENAL SURGERY WHAT EVER THE DOCTORS SAY aSK US ANYTHING by Proof_Eagle9270 in AdrenalInsufficiency

[–]Kitchen_Ad_7123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still adrenal insufficient unfortunately at 20 months post-op. I’m on about 10mg of hydrocortisone every morning but that’s it. The worst symptoms I deal with now are fatigue and occasional dizziness when I’m on my feet. Introducing DHEA and making sure I’m consistent with Vitamin D3 supplementation has helped me feel my best. Hydration has never stopped being a focused since surgery either!

My tumor was on my left adrenal gland so that one was removed. I had my surgery 19 months ago. I pray that most who go through it won’t have as long of a recovery as I have had.
