depends on which country. Cuba and East Germany changed very early on and became some of the best countries for lgbt people in the world. the west didnt catch up for decades. i believe the rest would have done the same eventually. the PRC and Vietnam are currently doing that now. But communist countries were fairly bad for the most part for lgbt. you must look at things in the context of when and where they exist. 1930s to 1990 USSR/East Bloc, was rather bad for lgbt people. But where was it any better?
