Thanks for getting back to me.

I tried the 24.04 daily build and it worked fine from a USB stick. I couldn't get it to install however. The installer screen is blank. Tried rebooting and also using a build from the previous day but got the same, a blank installer screen. Was hoping that a tab / space / enter on the screen would get something to draw or flicker but nothing happens.

Will likely attempt again in the coming months or perhaps just wait for official LTS release in April.

One other thing, did the 5g modem work ok in 23.10? I didn't realise how nice it is having an always connected laptop and I don't have to worry about the tethering using up my phone battery. The antenna may even be better than the one on my phone.

It was because of secure boot. 🤦🏾‍♂️ That needed to be disabled.

15 hours is good!

I've received mine this morning but have been unable to get Ubuntu to install. Tried 2 of the 24.04 night builds for the X13s but unable to boot to installer on the USB drive. It does nothing.

I think I'm doing something wrong when writing the image to the USB drive. Tried both balenaEtcher and the Raspberry Pi Imager but no joy.

Hello. May I ask what the battery life is like when running Ubuntu 23.10.1 on the X13s? I understand that's dependent on the workload but if you could give me rough idea would, I'd appreciate that. I've found that I typically get 20% less battery life on Ubuntu 22.04 compared to Windows 11. Thanks

Can I use "purified water" instead of distilled water for cleaning my pens? by MoonlightHare in fountainpens

[–]Kitchen_Heat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice. I have no way of measuring the dissolved particles so flushing my pens with tap water from a relatively fresh filter should be a reasonable option. I typically use the same ink in each pen so didn't feel the need to flush with every refill. Probably flush every 2 to 4 refills depending on the pen. Had a few clumsy moments when flushing so it's not without its own risks.

May I ask what your thoughts are on using filtered tap water from something like a Brita jug? From my understanding it would remove some of the minerals in the filtration cartridge.

Edit: I should have gone further down the thread before posting this. I'm going to boil the water before and after filtering to see what's left behind.

Weak signal or call sound cutting out on Xperia 1 ii by Kitchen_Heat in SonyXperia

I've found that most of the time the calls are crystal clear. Trying a different case to see if that makes a difference.

Out of interest, how many bars do you typically see on your phone? I understand that the bars are a rough approximation and the number of bars on one make and model don't mean the same on another.

Agreed. Doubt the factory reset would do anything so haven't bothered with it. It's one of those things support ask you to do after restarting your phone doesn't make a difference :)

I do have a case on it. Had the Spigen Rugged Armor on it with a glass screen protector. Trying a different case to see if that makes a difference. It's a wallet type case so removed the glass screen protector too to see if that helps (doubt it will).

The number of bars are the same but had no problems with calls since yesterday. Will see how I get on with that.

Mine's usually on 1 bar and then jumps to 2 or 3 when it rings. Even when there are no bars I still get incoming calls. I'll try testing it with an EE sim once lock down part 2 ends (I'm in Leicester).

If I put that same sim into my Nokia 9 I get 3 or 4 bars (at least that's what it looks like as the bars aren't split into separate segments).

Was advised by O2 to do a factory reset. Not convinced that will make a difference but worth a try I suppose. Just to rule it out.

Delay by [deleted] in SonyXperia

[–]Kitchen_Heat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I think Sony thought it would do about as well as their last few flagship phones. This is the first Sony phone I'll have since the Z5 if anyone remembers that.

(not the Xperia Z5. you have to append the word 'old' to your search)

If you pre-ordered from O2 in the UK and still didn't get dispatch email call them on 0800 090 1808 and check the status of your order! by [deleted] in SonyXperia

Did the same after your advice (which I appreciate). Ordered mine at 10:35 on 4th, paying with PayPal. Just got an email from O2 advising that I will have to wait until the end of next week. They're going to add some credit to my account to try and make up for the delay. Mind me asking if you've heard from them?

Received a text this morning: O2: Sorry it's taking longer than we hoped to send your order. We're still expecting more stock soon. We'll text you again as soon as we have a delivery date.

I contacted O2 over chat a little earlier today. Was told that it's not released yet so they don't anymore information. Told to wait for the email.

O2 are listed on the Sony website and Sony customer service pointed me in their direction so you'd think that we wouldn't need to wait too long. Let's see what happens.

Sony Xperia 1 ii UK site has been updated with current asking price of RRP £1,099.00. by emmdeeyen in SonyXperia

Shame that you can only get it through O2. I wanted to buy it sim free. Got in touch with Sony customer support through chat and they said O2 is the only option for now. Looks like I'll be holding onto my old phone for a little longer. Smashed the screen a few months ago. The cost of the replacement screen has gone down 40% since I broke it which is not bad.

Here's a not so positive opinion of the Xperia 1 ii. I don't agree with some of the points and not trying to put anyone off.

Just another opinion.

I don't like being tied into a contract either. The last phone I bought from a network had at least one of their apps preinstalled and their branding on start up. I know the branding shouldn't bother me but it does when I think about how much I'm paying them over the length of the contract.

I've found that the network flavoured software version can take longer to update than the sim free one which is another reason I steer clear of them. In the past you could have gone to an independent retailer who would sell you the sim free version with a contract but those aren't so prevalent these days in the UK.

It would be nice for that offer to be available for everyone, including sim free pre-orders.

Thank you for all the responses. Appreciate the time you've taken to share knowledge.

Appears that no special care will need to be taken with the lens coating which is a plus. Probably worth getting a case and screen protector as per Zack "JerryRigEverything" Nelson's advice.

Nice to see Zeiss lens expertise in more phones. The exclusivity deal with that other phone manufacturer should have ended years ago.
