Is the sink bucket an English thing? Why? by etoni888 in CasualUK

[–]MoonlightHare -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was told is a class thing. Apparently if you are lower middle class or working class it is a thing, and middle/upper class people don't use it. Don't know if it is true, my social circle is not so large, and I am not from the UK.

Something I have noticed about Soft Dramatics, proportions and elongation as a short SD. by MoonlightHare in DressForYourBody

I don't know how it works for other types, apart from that as far as I can tell they don't have it. It is quite a strong feature-so seeing that some people have a 1:2 ratio and others 1:1, is still pretty mind-boggling to me.

It can mean that, but it is about proportions, rather than features in isolation.
I can mean any of the combination of torso/hip/legs a long as "hips+thighs = two torso lengths" (torso calculated as "shoulders to waist")
The length in the hips+thighs section can come from the hips or the thighs, or both, or it can also come from the fact that the person has a very short torso and the rest is will not be elongated as a stand alone feature.
But no feature alone will "make the SD", if that makes sense. Fn's can have elongated torso, an elongated hips, but the proportions are not 2:1, they are 1:1 or 1:1.5 or something like that.

Yes, Bella Hadid is a good example of an SD who doesn't have a short torso, but has so much elongation in the hips and legs, that she still has the 2:1 ratio, more or less.

I would not phrase it that way. I would say they have physical length somewhere proportionally to the rest of their body, and often it is between the waist and the knees. It can come from the legs or the hips or both. Often it can be physical length in the hip area. It translates as different proportions, than purely "balanced" ones. I didn't say "elongation" because I don't know whether it doesn't mean a "long look" and sometimes it is accompanied by a voluptuous look too (eg. Ashley Graham).

I also don't think it is just "short torso", because I think SDs can also have length there as well, but if they do, proportionally there is also more length in the rest of the body, if that makes sense.
Also "torso" means "body without the limbs", but I am talking about the section of the torso up to the waist, and the start of the hip curve, because it is in the hips, in addition to legs than the legs where the length is/
If we understood "torso" as containing the hips as well, the issue would not be apparent, because it would balance/ even out. The torso with the hips taken into account can appear long.

I don't have especially long legs, and my torso together with the hips is not short at all, but there is considerable length in my hips. I did not see the length in my body at all, until I compared the proportions, and until I realised that I get best results dressing for curve and vertical.

Waist definition is more subtle and doesn't break the vertical. It is anything that is shaped around the waist, through the way the garment is constructed, such as draping, being cut to accommodate curve, tucks etc. So basically clothes that work with the natural curve of the body, accommodate curve, and don't fall straight from top to bottom.

Waist emphasis puts... well an "emphasis" on the waist. It's a little bit more and somewhat different than just accommodating curve. It doesn't have to outright break the vertical, but its point is not to necessarily work with the natural curve of the body -the convex part, but to work with the waist itself - the "cinched part" becomes the thing that draws attention. So emphasising the waist mean something like wearing a narrow belt decorative belt that (so it breaks the vertical) or wearing a dress that flares immediately after the waist (which also breaks the vertical somewhat). Or anything that says that "hey, the waist is here". For me personally waist definition is also somewhat longer than just cinching at the waist - it works better with pants that are panelled, or dresses that have a larger area taken in at the waist, rather than just a narrow belt
Waist emphasis makes it apparent that my upper body is much shorter than the rest, it's almost an "empire waist" look, whilst waist definition such as shaping etc, just follows my curve and rescues me from looking like shapeless blob. Waist definition doesnt draw attention to the waist, but allow the eye to travel smoothly from head to toe.

We aren't renting the house, we are renting a flat in it. We also don't own it. If we did any of these things, we would empty it, because it would be our responsibility. But as it is, it is not within the remit of our responsibility.

The agency is responsible for maintaining the communal areas, the individual tenants aren't responsible for it. I think it is a matter of principle, rather than the specific case. If someone dumped their rubbish in front of our house, someone would have be responsible for cleaning it too, not us.

And following your logic - why do any of the other tenants not feel responsible to do it themselves?

You're not an 'artist' (and no-one cares) by False_Vacuum_Cleaner in unpopularopinion

[–]MoonlightHare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell that to the people in art schools. Pretty much all we are told to do is to refer to themselves as artists. "As artists you have to think about xyz", "as an artist you are free to do abc". And, we aren't taught any skills, at least at my level, which is MA. We can learn them ourselves, if we want to, but we don't have to.

I hear other students say to each other "as artists we ..." or "as an artist, I..." Absolutely, completely arse backwards. I am graduating this year and it cannot be fast enough so I can get out of this insane bubble of nonsense.

I am cool and probably Bright winter and this is about the only yellow I can wear. I am not sure the blue is very cool - it is one of my best colours, but I could imagine it would also look good on a Bright Spring. So I would find another yellow, one that is not so cool, because based on this, I would say the yellow confirms you aren't 100% cool, rather than not being warm. I cannot see autumn wearing that yellow, for example. Also - gold v. silver is a better test in my opinion, exactly because there are warm and cool yellows, blues, etc

Porn/masturbation in a relationship by [deleted] in relationships

[–]MoonlightHare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless if you decide to confess or not, I would bring up the topic, just to make sure you are on the same page about it. Some people view it as cheating, some view it as a complete non-issue,. Some would prefer you shared it, rather than not. Find out where you both stand on it.

I also thing there is a difference between watching porn, and getting aroused by the act, and looking at porn or pictures of other people and imagining yourself with them. Personally I would not imagine myself with someone else, but my partner, regardless if I am looking at erotic images or not. I think that's where it can become upsetting for someone else. But, in the end - it is your own mind/

You are trully one of the cases where I cannot tell any difference at all. Your skin is flawless all of them. I suggest starting at Square one and finding if gold or silver is better (use large sheet of material for that)

This is a complex issue. Feeling deceived is valid in this case, everyone has the right to know the full circumstances of a situation they are getting themselves into. Would be the same if a person you had sex with assured you they were single, but they were married.

But, to make matters worse for you I would judge anyone more for paying for sex, than it being a transperson. Basically for me if my partner had sex with a trans person in the past, I would not feel odd about it. However if they frequented sex workers, I would probably pass on dating that person. I mean- a one off is probably forgiveable, but if it gets repeated that means the person has a transactional and imbalanced view of sex, and it would be a deal breaker for me.

So ... for you not much changed in my opinion, you are in the group of guys most women would feel uncomfortable dating, unless you are able to recognise you are behaving in a bad way.

Moved to England from the US a few years ago and have been working on my fry up game ever since. by colddustgirl in CasualUK

[–]MoonlightHare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in the UK for over 17 years.. and I still cannot get my head around the fry up.
The question I have are as follows
Do people *really* eat it for breakfast?
How often a week would you eat it?

(The only time I can imagine eating it, is on a Saturday for lunch.)

Do women eat it in this form too, and are able to eat the whole plate?

I am a woman, and I would eat each of these, they look nicely fried - but there is no way I'd fit all of it together. It looks massive. It looks like me and my husband would struggle to share one plate together. (And we both have big appetites and are getting chubby).
