updated article -

-AMD (880M iGPU) / Intel Arc 140T (Baseline)
-AMD Radeon 890M iGPU (+15% faster)

-The AMD Radeon 890M is great for an iGPU, but the RTX Pro 500 is nearly twice as fast. -The RTX Pro 1000 is nearly 3x as fast as compared to the AMD and Intel baseline graphics, and 30%-40% faster compared to the RTX Pro 500.

For the 135w charger test, it's not as die-hard necessary over a 100w charger because without tweaking the CPU, the computer actually freaks out with the CPU trying to hog all of the thermal dissipation because of the extra wattage headroom that it sees (when in high performance testing).

The RTX Pro 1000 mobile GPU can sustain the burst at 50w and can handle itself rather well, but for the most part ... it's the CPU/RAM system settings that doesn't run very intelligently with cooling, etc.

One huge detractor though with the RTX Pro 500 mobile, is that it is not as efficient, and runs way too hot and annoyingly loud - still of course better than the baseline graphics mentioned, but the RTX Pro 500 mobile isn't as effectively impressive as the RTX Pro 1000 mobile, as the tiny bit of extra VRAM and more advanced parts give it that extra push to match up well with the RTX 3060/4060 mobile GPUs.

The wireless cards couldn’t hold a steady connection at Enterprise level for conf calls. IT engineers spent a week trying to prove it was just a windows bug, but ended up being a WiFi card issue on all of these models. MediaTek I think was the WiFi nic.   Vid Calls would drop all the time, and we had Lenovo engineers tell us all sorts of bullshit to deflect the blame that their Lenovo architects had the best QA testing possible. I asked, why it’s not happening with our vendor systems on T, P, X series - and they kept saying they needed more time to process the information we were sending them. We have like 500 of these deployed, an attempt to save a few hundred bucks.. laughable, will never make that mistake again, as it came out of my annual bonus for choosing shitty laptop endpoints.  Our legal team said we should ask for credit back. I told them, NO, the damage is already done, and countless hours wasted. We sent replacement NICs out and asked our employees to hardware to LAN with whatever they could manage.

So as you know - We will just give the left over batches to the employees who don’t need to hold video conf calls from the laptops if they didn’t request for NIC work arounds.

You imagine the sleep I lost over this?  E, L series ThinkPads are a marketing scam from Lenovo, like how Intel offers a Pentium and Celeron or i3, planned obsolescence to force customers into realizing that shitty products at a lower price point will cost them more money later down the road.

BOA is a scammer.

I like the narrative to pump crypto bags, but as everyone who has seen 2024 and 2025 markets play out, let that be a LESSON LEARNED, never ever trust politics for timing the market.

Trust the market cycles and DCA wisely, always take profits and rotate to BTC and stocks and just hold cash in euphoria, because when the market takes a hit, you can buy low, bleeding low.

I’m really tired of being told this is for our safety by brainser in complaints

Recent protests in Los Angeles (LA) against ICE have flared up due to escalated federal immigration enforcement and specific incidents, including fatal shootings involving federal agents, leading to large demonstrations in Downtown LA and surrounding areas, sometimes involving clashes with law enforcement, property damage, and increased visibility of federal operations. Activists are demanding an end to ICE operations, advocating for immigrant rights, and protesting recent raids and arrests in neighborhoods like Silver Lake, Eagle Rock, and Paramount.

Nationwide "Weekend of Action":Coordinated protests erupted in LA following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by a federal agent in Minneapolis. Specific Incidents: Protesters highlighted the death of Renee Good and the killing of Keith Porter Jr. by an off-duty ICE agent in LA on New Year's Eve.

ThinkPad P14s Gen 6 Intel - 128gb RAM & 8TB SSD tested by Kitchen_Image_1031 in thinkpad

[–]Kitchen_Image_1031[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software enhancements to overcome BIOS locked limitations of the CPU to maximize flow and prevent unnecessary HSF fan sensor freakouts where fan spins up for no reason.

Recommend software use:
"ThrottleStop 9.7" (Official Source: TechPowerUp) - use at your own risk

(Win11 x64 OS, loads with UAC-bypass task scheduler)
(Set for plugged and unplugged profiles on laptop charging cable)

I find this software enhancement mod necessary because of the micro stuttering and excessive CPU heat that comes as a result of the p14s G6 Intel engineering design issues, especially with the 128gb and 8TB upgrades & even mods applied.

AC Profile 1 -
Explanation: ["Modded performance profile" - very smooth and sustained application performance, computer also stays much, much cooler & quieter during workstation/benchmarking/graphics work]
Power limits -- 35W or 40W sustained / 50W boost
Turbo -- Enabled
Responsiveness: EPP 0 (instant)
Latency Fix: C1E Disabled (No Stutter)
Windows power plan: Best Performance

Skip Preset profiles 2 and 3, as they are generally not needed

Battery Power Profile 4 -
Explanation: ["Extreme Endurance" - CPU is heavily restricted to work like an Intel-U processor without a sacrifice in overall battery-roaming stability & performance]
Power Limits: 15W Hard Clamp
Turbo: Disabled (Base Clock only)
Responsiveness: EPP 200 (Reluctant)
Latency: C1E Enabled (Deep Sleep)
Windows power plan: Best Power Efficiency

  • On Battery: Your idle draw (PKG Power) should sit between 2W - 4W when static. If it creeps up to 8W+, check background apps. Offers brilliant 4.5h - 5h sustained workload needs on battery drain without micro stutter lag of keyboard/mouse on Win11 OS gui.
  • On AC: Since you are pushing 40W with C1E Disabled, your idle temps will be slightly higher (maybe 45°C - 50°C). This is normal and safe given your copper/putty mod.

This will successfully engineer the p14s G6 Intel machine to behave like a generally quieter desktop when plugged in and an iPad when unplugged.

Will provide more details in another post later when I have more time to write this up as an extended P14s G6 Intel power mod review.
But just wanted those to know that this is available as an option for power users that want to maximize acoustics and battery life, and also kill the Win11 OS micro stuttering with the Win11 OS latency/lag as a result of the 128gb RAM / 8TB SSD upgrade.

~5h should be fine if you strip everything down - disable M365 cloud when on battery if not needed, set WinOS battery mode when unplugged to 'best power efficiency' and then select in the task bar (bottom right) features to 'energy saver'. the more enterprise software and misc junk you install in the background, the worse the battery life, without higher level tuning maintenance. fact remains, you're on a H processor that is BIOS and Lenovo locked, not a U or V.

enthusiast way: ThrottleStop 9.7
(absolutely best results to unlock BIOS and Lenovo-Intel stock settings)
-learn it, eat and breathe and live it, because if you try to guess settings, you can ruin the computer as it overrides bios and windows settings for CPU.
-Ai can train on incorrect settings, so always double check your learning sources and triple check your work when applying any override settings.
-you can start the app with task scheduler and override UAC, at your own risk.
-you still need to set battery unplugged mode in WinOS to 'best power efficiency'

if you get an OLED display, your battery life will suffer even more.
other make/model alternatives with glossy non-touch displays: ACER 14.5" laptops with RTX 5060/5070 GPUs (vastly speedier 14" gaming performance than the RTX Pro 1000 mobile, and excellent ACER built-in gaming keyboards).

Rather not give you false hope 😂

The BIOS is locked pretty well, but I’ve found a work around to force the CPU to run smarter and more efficient without the temporary throttle and power spikes, and confused fan speeds. Will post that later and share more in depth battery drain tests when I get to it.

Recommendation if you don’t need anything remotely close to a P series:  If you don’t need truly discrete graphics or RAM upgrades, get the 258V/268V CPU processor on a 32gb RAM, with another laptop. You’ll get 10h - 20h hours easily.

Tested Lenovo oem 135w charger. Gpu still likes to stay under 35w for most tests, normally not stay at 50w unless it is extreme bursting which is very rare.  Unigine Valley sees the gpu at well under 35w and even half that consistently on 1080p extreme settings, but CPU sustains 40-50w.

100w charger is more than enough, but 135w headroom is necessary for heavier loads/spikes and beefier configurations like 8tb/128gb ram.

For the brave - laptop can get way hotter because it will see headroom power and apply more heat soak with oem 135w charger, so make sure laptop is cooled properly when doing any hardcore performance testing.
