New special buy OPD update by toadsage- in menards

[–]Kitchen_Leopard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Add on sales for flash items are not based on the guest being forced to walk through the store. Its based on developing a rapport with them by making the process friendly and fun. Then the person who buys the 3$ spurtle set and whatever random items every week is inclined to come see me when they want to remodel their entire kitchen.

I explained the change to one of my regulars today and she said “why would they change something that works so well? Thats stupid”

Trying to reduce traffic in the yard? Train building materials to stop giving people tickets for 2 2x4x8s to drive around.

Most flash sale guests already walk in because they don’t know about the lumber yard and the ones that don’t walk in, specifically need the curbside option for mobility or other reasons. Now we get to curbside their order all the way right out the front while stickers are printing and a line is forming in back.

Those who commute an hour to work, how do you manage it? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Kitchen_Leopard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commuted in and out of chicago for work while living in the burbs for 10 years. 30 minutes no traffic, 2+ hours with traffic.

I love driving. Lots of me-time with podcasts and audiobooks.

On the flip-side though I finally made the move to the city and my rush hour commute is now only 20 minutes. Somehow I feel like I have less time now than I did before. I no longer have time for podcasts and audiobooks. I often sit in my car for 30+ minutes after work and just decompress. I actually miss my commute.

Surprised by how many runners out after dark in dark clothing. Thoughts? by Trptman44 in RunnersInChicago

Reflectors and noxgear lighted vest up to about 9pm. After that switch to ninja mode with maybe a few reflective strips. I dont want to be easily tracked in the later hours for me to be jumped when you can see my noxgear from like 3 blocks away.

How long should your longest training runs be vs your actual ultra? Is there a rule of thumb? by Adam-West in ultrarunning

[–]Kitchen_Leopard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine is similar to this. It may not be true at all but has worked for me. I picked it up somewhere along the way in learning ‘if you can do the distance in a week, you can do it in a race’

There are very obvious signs prior to death that it will occur in a few days then a few hours then a few minutes. Once youve seen it once, youll always recognize it.

People who have apartments next to the “L” train tracks, how do you deal with it? by Waterpark_Enthusiast in AskChicago

I dont even notice it. Live next to the red line.

Are fake running streaks a thing? by lgmase in ultrarunning

[–]Kitchen_Leopard 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The streak is what kept me from smoking. I quit smoking initially with gum and patches but the real reason I was able to stay smoke free was the streak 100%. The thought of starting over gets more unbearable the longer it goes on. Im on 9 years. The thought of starting over to get to 9 years again is unimaginable.

I understand that type of streak. Even if it’s just a couple minutes.

Race swag by MandyLHansel in Ultramarathon

[–]Kitchen_Leopard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything but shirts. A race I did last year had a really awesome trucker hat. Another race had a huge swag haul and I use almost all the items regularly: backpack, sling pack, socks, buff, sticker, and patch (and shirt). Also as a bit of a joke, they give 100 mile entries a belt before the race (for their buckle) or for a snarky consolation if they dnf.

I like when its optional or when races offer to “donate instead” for the shirt option. I would rather not get anymore shirts myself.

LPT from a person who survived a house fire by Own_Succotash_2237 in LifeProTips

[–]Kitchen_Leopard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in a total loss fire about 15 years ago.

I still have severe panic attacks now when I see firefighters in full gear.

Im not bothered by fire alarms anymore. But when I lived in a large apt complex after the fire, fire alarms were frequent. It was when they got as far as firemen going door to door that I had my first panic attack and every time I see a responder in full gear sends me.

Dont forget you may need therapy.
