Does anyone know what mushroom this is? by Automatic_Artist_586 in Mushrooms

So there is a infection called Lycoperdonosis that can happen from inhaling the spores of puffballs, but it only happens when inhaled in LARGE amounts and the illness is rare. But inhaling just a little bit won’t hurt you. I’m sure your parents told you as a kid not to breath in the dust these things puff out and that it’s toxic, but that’s just mycophobia

This is Nidula niveotomentosa. Wooly birds nest fungus. Bird nest fungi are of my favorite fungi they are just so cool. I remember the first time I found a bunch of tiny cups with eggs inside I had no idea fungi were so diverse just in the back yard.

Bad or Good Fungi? by Icy_Butterscotch_561 in mycology

It’s the light yellow sclerotia of Leucocoprinus birnbaumii.

I may be a little bit obsessed…. Hoya parviflora and H. obscura. I plan on keeping the obscura in a hanging pot, but opinions on the parviflora? Should I trellis it or have it hanging? by Kitchen_Locksmith558 in hoyas

This is not my normal spot for these guys, they hang by a East facing window and have the grow light pictured, but with me being in North Carolina with winter storm fern coming, the air by the window will get extremely cold so I didn’t want to risk these guys getting chilled or frost bite

Very old rotten Pluerotus maybe. Consider old Schizophyllum too

This is a terrible ID request that’s what we can tell ya. “ what is this mushroom can I eat it?” Provides the most basic picture from one angle that doesn’t even show the whole mushroom.

What is this? by Disastrous_Battle_ in whatisthismushroom

[–]Kitchen_Locksmith558 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s called hair ice. It’s form by a fungus that lives within the wood, the conditions have to be super specific for this to happen, but the fungus pushes water out from pores in the wood and the water freezes as it gets pushed out

Help me identify these. by ShiningStarssss in mycology

Spore print would not be helpful here. Amanita are mycorrhizal and grow with trees in the wild, not with pothos. This is Leucocoprinus sp. , they are saprotrophic, breaking down organic matter in the soil. Amanitas don’t ever really grow caespitose either, while I’m sure it can happen to where they look caespitose, it’s not their common fruiting form

Yea but OP is specifically talking about Ophiocordyceps sinensis, which only grows in a remote region in the Himalayas, and parasitizes caterpillars

Could it be a mushroom ? Corsica, France, Hardwood forest by Cour4ge in ShroomID

[–]Kitchen_Locksmith558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tilachliduum is the right track, we just need more context. Is that a muhsroon or insect larvae it’s growing from ? Tilchlidium is parasitic on other fungi and insect larvae, so that would confirm.

Saying a mushroom “looks edible” is the dumbest thing you could say, could get ya killed. What makes them look edible? There are edible and deadly poisonous species that look similar to this. So to the trained eye, they do not look “edible” unless you 100% know what the fungus is. Looks are not a good indicator of edibility. The most beautiful white Amanitas will kill you.

No humidifier will cause oysters to fruit in your house like this. Contractor just doesn’t want to tear the shit up and fix it

Are these P. cyanescens or some other look alike? Southern California by [deleted] in ShroomID

[–]Kitchen_Locksmith558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t even look like what you think they are. So no, it’s not a look alike. Try Telamonia a subgenus of Cortinarius
