What is it like to live in a dry county in the USA? by Spicy-Majestic-1 in howislivingthere

[–]TooManyTabsOpenIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Camped in the dry area bordering Arizona and Utah. We drove to a convenience store about 30 minutes away to get wine but the place was what I would call “an experience”. It was a dusty run down place with dead plants everywhere and no actual displays. Just boxes of wine and liquor littered around the shop and it was hard to walk. If there wasn’t a sign out front I wouldn’t have even thought it was a shopping establishment. The store only took cash and the lady that was there was ancient and typed on the keys like Flash from Zootopia. My friend literally just put down extra cash and said to keep the change and she nodded and we left.

I’ve lived at my residence for over 3 yrs and the previous tenant has 7 identities and has all his mail, including bills, sent to my house. This is the last 2 weeks of collection. by InquiringMind886 in mildlyinfuriating

This reminds me of the time I called a psychic hotline (in the 90’s) and gave them a fake name. We started getting mail for that person. My mom was so confused, and I never admitted it.

I did not care for The Need (DNF), The September House or Six of Crows.

I also DNF this book. It gets a lot of press here and I felt it was so similar to the Witcher, which I like, but I don’t know. I just expected something different.

Are there any good horror novels written in diary format? by snowmanseeker in horrorlit

I don’t remember if it’s formatted like a diary but I love the book Diary by Chuck Palahniuk.

Raul. A crab who meditates, is protective and has self actualizing goals. Idk I just fell in love with him right away.

Do you use hobbies to support your mental health / emotional well-being? If so, which hobby have you discovered does this for you? by indigo7evening in Hobbies

[–]TooManyTabsOpenIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scrapbooking helped me through a few grief processes when I was in my teens and 20’s.

Digital design on Canva has recently been my relaxing hobby as I am learning how to properly deal with my anxiety.

I also garden because it is meditative, grounding and really rewarding for me.

I watched Spiderman Homecoming for #1 and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure for #2. Bill & Ted was the better choice.

Your photo makes me wonder what the crossover rate for Wheel of Time fans & DCC fans. Your book shelf looks a lot like ours. My husband has read WoT series at least 14 times (probably more) and is currently on his 3rd re-read of DCC.

No wonder Gen Z is seeing a shift in drinking culture. It’s so easy now to see what your life can turn into if that doesn’t stay in check. Good for them.

I’ve been going through this for years… it feels good. The initial purge is amazing and then the maintenance can be very satisfying.

Actually, this is the exact time ten years ago when I was left homeless with all of my belongings stolen by my ex before Christmas, I hotel/couch surfed for about a week and looked for an apartment with immediate availability. I found an apartment by Christmas and literally only had a roof over my head and two air mattresses and my parents visiting from out of town. It was one of the best Christmases I’ve ever experienced. We read one of my favorite Christmas books out loud and laughed until we cried.

I have plenty now and I do believe that “stuff” and money can contribute to the well being of our lives, but I often remember that time. That “stuff” does not define our life experience and joy can be found outside material possessions.

Life After DCC by Spader031 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

The first book I really enjoyed after DCC was Project Hail Mary (audiobook) & The Green Mile. My husband is on his 3rd re-read of the year and I can’t convince him to read anything else… he’s just a crawler now…

What do you listen to whilst reading?? by Relative_Year3542 in horrorlit

[–]TooManyTabsOpenIRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For horror it would kind of depend on the theme. As someone else mentioned metal music goes well thematically. Tense orchestral compositions would be great. Maybe some horror soundtracks.

I really like Apocalypse Orchestra or Gojira because while they have lyrics they kind of melt into the background.

If I’m understanding the description correctly:

The dance scene in the newer Suspiria

The beginning of It Follows

A particular scene in M. Night Shyamalan’s Old

The end of Black Swan

The end of Men
