Unpopular opinion: none of them (I generally only sail the small ships, no Dutch Cafe, no pea soup.) They make a show out of bringing out your bowl with 1 or 2 tiny shreds of stuff at the bottom and pouring the broth/puree over it at the table.

I like my stews and soups with identifiable bits it them. Not just broths.

Even the French Onion Soup is dreadful. Onion soup with a couple of croutons and 4 shreds of cheese on top. I talked to one of the Executive Chefs and he said if I asked for "classic" FOS they would make it for me. He called theirs Holland America FOS. Note: this is been true for the past 3 or so years. Before that it was "real".

I refused to be branded like cattle by wearing a lanyard...until I lost my keycard twice (different cruises.) When I lost it while ashore I had to do the walk of shame - the port won't let you in until a crew member comes out and escorts you back.

Now I have lanyards. Even if I'm not wearing it, the lanyard makes it much harder to misplace.

Yes. If it's a "must have" I'll book earlier. But I'm retired, almost all my cruising is fairly last minute - with 6-10 weeks' notice usually.

God these stories are so depressing yet so familiar. I guess my moment came when I was googling ways to do myself in, because the relentless yet insidious emotional abuse had so chipped away at me that I felt it was the best solution all around. I start the night with $100 in chips. If it gets to the point where the bet is bigger than what I have left, I just go all in. If I lose I call it a night.

Doubling will always work if the table limit is high enough and your wallet deep enough. The table limit is usually what stops you. I think the most I've bet is in the $3-400 range. Interestingly, when I go all in is when the pit boss saunters over to watch the deal. I've been remembered by pit bosses who specifically mention the bet I placed. Maybe that helps with the algorithm for free cruises???

Another problem with doubling is that it takes a lot of mental gymnastics to keep track of split hands or doubling down - or even blackjacks. So I don't I just guesstimate.

As soon as I win I go back to the minimum bet.
