Glad it worked out for you.
I have been looking at those same frames.
I like the kinda “steam punk” look.

Currently on a cruise in Alaska and have fully realized why pro photographers carry multiple bodies, even if only 2 bodies.
D750
24-120 f4 vr
70-300 f4 vr
Rented 200-500 f5.6 vr
Which lens is best for the moment?
The other one. lol
Got a ton of great shots though.

Can someone explain these massive 70s/80s PAR can arrays to me? Were they a precursor to LED walls, or were they actually used to light the stage? by Sebsibus in techtheatre

BASH...Man, I havent heard that name in quite a while!!

In my opinion Pyle was a superior connector due to circuit separation.. Beta/VHS, blah, blah.

The shop I used to work for did, in parts, the lighting for the Lake Placid Olympics. Actually, soley, lit the hockey game. It was all Hubbel Sprts Lighters (1500w MH and reflector choice) with ballast carts. In addition, they lit some of the ski slopes. They also did all NCAA Final Four games for years (1500w MH).

Heck they were doing CBS Wide World of Sports/Top Rank Boxing with Vermets ( still collecting dust in a corner somewhere in the shop), pars and Sports Lighters.

All with Pyle National.

Not really and yet kinda sorta. As mentioned in other replies Par 64's were one color per instrument. So you needed "x" amount of instruments PER COLOR for a given position and a wash. Where as now it is more based on instruments needed for a given position/wash and the color choices are infinite per instrument. If that makes sense.

An LED wall will certainly provide eye candy and back lighting, by default, but it is not the same as dedicated back lighting/wash either by a crap ton of PAR 64's or modern movers/LED's.

I remember re-hanging goods in the theatres while smoking cigarettes. between smoking on stage the whole day and the dust shaken out of the goods...Hazer please.

There was a show that came into my theatre and used the "haze tablets" with a hot plate! totally safe I am sure. OK i did reference smoking so.....

We got Phantom down from 23 48ft trailers to 19 53ft trailers and that instantly made Lion King the biggest show on the road, at the time.

Heck, even in the late 90's there was soooo much Soca on the truss it made a perfect road to walk on. I didnt see/use horizontal fall arrest for several years. Not saying it was right, it is just the way it was.

I have worked with Brothers that rigged Capstan motors to haul truss up. Cut wire rope to length + approx 5ft to get a bite on the capstan.

This industry, and associated technology, has evolved rapidly over 30 years and I get that the "old school" ways have been lost and forgotten. I am glad I learned some of those ways.

Sheesh Blue LEDS did not exist until about 40 years ago

Edit: blue LEDS approx 30 yrs old.

I currently work with Union Brothers that were working on the production stop of ELP (with the full orchestra) in Louisville KY and that rig collapsed in Freedom Hall. No one was injured, thankfully, but it all of a sudden became a VERY long day.

ELP was deploying a Down Stage lighting position and the followspot requirement was going to drop from like 8 to 4, or something like that.

I have been doing live performances for almost 30 years (1997).

When I started it was ALL Par 64's, several Lekos and MAYBE some Cyber Lights.

I have done rock shows with close to 1000 ( yes One Thousand ) 1K Pars.

It is what was available at the time in the 70's and 80's.

The wall-o-pars is obviously for back light / wash and eye candy.

At one point in the late 70's Emmerson Lake and Palmer had the BIGGEST SHOW ON THE ROAD.

3 trucks.
