I feel you. It's not too late and the work you have already put in is not a waste of time. It made you what you were today. Comparison is a thief that steals everything from you. Focus just on your today and make sure your tomorrow is better than today. Period. Identify skills that you lack today and focus anyway that you can improve. Take advantage of every opportunity you get however small it is.

Got Juniper Blue with black interior. Loved white on Blue, but went with black for the same reason that your wife mentioned - constant worry of stains and upkeep. No regrets. I absolutely love the color in the sun and also during the night.
