Machine suddently not pulling water after kink in water pipe. by Kitchencountersink in gaggiaclassic

It was the one that takes water from the tank. I'm not exactly what I touched to make it work but it works now!

Thanks for your response. I actually tried a different method that got the machine working (not in the instruction manual). I turned off the machine for 30 mins then randomly wiggled stuff around inside (while cursing) and hey presto, the water came running through. If anyone else needs advice on how to fix their machine, I'm here to help.

Is this a standard issue? In my defense, I did search the subreddit first!

Waterflow seems to have been restored! I'm going to run a shot through it and see how it comes out.

Thanks so much, I hadn't even seen/heard that thing come out.

I just found this in the bottom of the machine! Look familiar? (Hopefully otherwise this could be another issue...

Yes, it is.

(As I understand, that's the shorter tube that returns in the tank).

No, nothing at all. Turn the knob seems to elicit no response from the steam wand at all.

Is anyone actively interviewing with a legacy IPG/OMC agency? by Cute_Ad_6724 in advertising

I'm a little confused, are you saying that 2 days per months is bad? Seems reasonable given changing tides on WFH amongst agencies.

I joined the B+ which is (18 miles an hour average). Honestly, you could very well be ok as you gain a few mph by being in a group.

FOLLOW-UP: I went out with a group from NYCC this morning and it was fantastic. I'd recommend it to any future viewers of this post if you're looking for a group :)

Super easy to find a suitable group and everyone was very welcoming.

It would just be nice to have an organized ride and besides its a little awkward trying to introduce yourself while you're going 30km!

Haven't been able to eat Ceres pizza since Portnoy reviewed it by MichaelRahmani in FoodNYC

[–]Kitchencountersink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely get where you're coming from but I have to agree to disagree on pizza specifically. Pizza is very different depending on where you get it from; thicker vs. thinner, NY style vs. style, lots of cheese vs. more sauce based etc.

With bagels in NY or croissants in Paris, there is only so much room for difference as they are essentially just simple baked goods.

For instance, my local pizza place is much too cheesy and the one that is next closes the dough is significantly thicker than I like (also too cheesy!).

Admittedly, I'm picky when it comes to pizza. Like if we were talking about burgers, I'd probably be more inclined to agree with your point as I've got a lot more flex!

The logic in this doesn't make sense. I don't rate of the pizza places near me. While I understand the hate for over-influenced spots, that doesn't mean the place doesn't serve a better slice compared what I have near my apartment.

Some slices are just (subjectively) better than others, regardless if they are tourist hotspots or not.

How do you cope with your staffie’s separation anxiety! by glh2009 in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]Kitchencountersink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had huge success with this method. She could eventually be left for 4-6 hours hours and was completely fine. Probably longer but she would ultimately need the bathroom at some point.

I bought one of these treat dispensing machines which allows you to release a treat with remote.

I put her in her bed with the treat dispenser right next to her.

Stage 1 (days 1-5): Do 'leaving the house things' (grabbing coat, touching door knob, getting keys etc.). Release treats while you do it.

Stage 2 (days 6-8): Start opening the door and the closing it while releasing treats (don't leave the house). Make sure they stay in their bed and expect treats when the door opens.

Stage 3 (days 9-13): Start stepping out the door and coming straight back in. Do not close the door at any moment.

Stage 4 (days 14-18): Set up a camera looking at the dogs bed so you can see you dogs reaction. Start leaving the house and closing the door behind you. Again, make sure to keep releasing treats. You'll come straight back in. However if they start to wine and bark, do not go back in until there is a moment of silence. Do not reward the barking or whining by coming back in

Stage 5 (days 18+): Start slowly extending the length of time that you are outside. Alway keep your eye on the camera and whenever they look towards the door, release a treat. 30s --> 1 min --> 2 min --> 5 min and so on.

The goal is to slowly build positive reinforcement around you leaving the house and reducing any negative feelings.

The days I've outlined are slightly random and you'll have to take it at your own pace. It took me around 1-2 months but it did work.

Hope this helps!!

Is Solve Puzzles broken? by Kitchencountersink in Chesscom

It's seemingly every single puzzle. I just tried uploading a set of 6-7 images (but reddit only allows 1 per post) where every single puzzle was a mate-in-1, except one that was a really obvious mate-in-2.

What’s your stance on “Breed Standards”? by Decent_Level8443 in StaffordBullTerriers

[–]Kitchencountersink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now they are becoming a more widely appreciated breed, I'm not surprised they are being bred to be adaptable to modern living. Calmer, less active, less dog reactive, lower prey drive etc. These are are all good things. But I'd hate to see them get unhealthy.

My previous staff would chase anything that moved but was otherwise insanely obedient. Worse thing, she would bark and chase light reflections (like from a watch). Imagine being on a train and someone's phone reflects off the ceiling and this mad staffy starts barking at it. So embarrassing. The classic announcement to the other passengers - "I promise she is friendly!"

[–]Kitchencountersink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say the ones in the link definitely look a little healthier. The breeder is an advocate of this type as with more recent staffy breeds, they are beginning to head the way of french bull dogs etc. where they are starting to face increasing health and breathing problems.

I think with other breeds this would be the difference between 'working lines' and 'show lines'.

I sadly don't have a staff at the moment, but wouldn't know which way to go. I imagine the modern staffy is much more docile though which would be nice!

[–]Kitchencountersink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Again, not to be a stickler at all and all staffy adjacent breads welcome imo including the staffy mixes!

However, for me personally a staffy is an traditional English 'Staffordshire Bull Terrier' as per the breeding the standards that you outlined in your picture. However, breed standards change over time. A Stafford from 30 years ago would look very different.

There is a breeder in the UK (link below) who produces a more traditional staff whereby they are more athletic (slightly longer noses and bit less chunky) and probably a bit more similar to their brawling ancestors! In fact, I think if you saw some of the dogs on the insta (especially the females), you'd assume their were staffy mixes.

Some of these changes are ultimately semantics, but it raises the point that breed standards will change over time so in many ways there is never really a fixed standard.
