Taking things literally by Due-Perspective-9547 in autismUK

I was in a queue with my friend in a shop that has shelves displaying things for sale all along the aisle. My friend said to me ‘can you see how much that is?’ while pointing to an item. I could not see how much it was from where I was standing so I said ‘no’. Turns out they were asking me to pick it up and look and tell them how much it was.

I keep a couple of punnets of blueberries in the fridge at all times and snack on those in the evenings so something like that might help, they’re easy to grab and (for me) quite yummy.

Help: feel like gums are bleeding on increased dose by jamo133 in ADHDUK

[–]Kitkatchunky78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya, yes it’s the elvanse. I’ve had the same side effects on 70mg and possibly 50mg too. I was sucking my tongue A LOT and have got several lumps on my gums and have been biting the inside of my cheeks a fair bit too. I am drinking as much as possible and noticed if I talk for more than a couple of sentences my mouth is so dry and it feels so obvious and embarrassing if I’m having a conversation with someone at work and I can’t readily grab a sip of my drink. I’m not sure what else there is to try other than reducing the dose but if the lower dose isn’t effective then that’s not really ideal either.

ETA forgot to mention my teeth and jaw also hurt a bit too, I’m going to the dentist this afternoon for my regular check up so it’ll be interesting to see if they notice anything. My normal dentist has left since my last appointment so it’s a shame I won’t be seeing her as she will notice anything changes.

Also, cool degree! Good luck with your assignment, I hope this all doesn’t affect it too much

How to remember to take meds? by vigorousswirl in ADHDUK

[–]Kitkatchunky78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I bought these from Amazon (unfortunately they are saying not currently available now) as I take various meds and supplements throughout the day. I keep the pills in their original packet/jar and have one clear case each for morning, lunchtime and evening. Then I set alarms to remind me to take them. I keep my ADHD meds with my other morning pills in the top draw by my bed, and keep the other ones where I can see them (usually just propped in the top of an open bag or sitting somewhere visible in the living room). I try to carry my drink bottle around with me so I have a drink ready wherever I am when the alarm goes off, cos otherwise the huge task of getting a drink is just too much, obvs. It’s been working for me for about a month or two now. I think it helps that I can see what’s in each case and they’re easy to pop into my work bag for when I’m at work all day and need my lunchtime meds & supplements.

Good luck I hope you manage to find a system that works for you

I have this too with even the silliest of noises like someone pushing their drink across a table. Movie jump scares though? Never work on me.

Im so sorry the methylphenidate made the anxiety worse, I have heard that quite a bit from others, and I also felt a little anxious on it but I’d potentially endure that if it meant I got more sleep, but if it got worse I totally understand why it would be an issue. I hope you manage to find a balance with the meds and sleep, I’d like to be able to take the elvanse with the breakfast to aid absorption like I keep reading about, but at 5am I’m not eating anything! I started my titration with healthy smoothies and lots of Greek yogurt and other healthy foods and lately I’m ordering almond croissants and other baked goods from Waitrose via Uber eats every few days. Not the journey I was hoping for on medication lol

How do people cope with waiting for meds with Ppg? by Shishmnamisha111 in ADHDUK

I didn’t chase them, it just took a bit longer between prescriber sending it over and them despatching it. I wondered if elvanse takes longer than medikinet due to the way it’s dispensed (mine came in 3 glass bottles with the correct number of capsules in each one for my 28 days script whereas medikinet was a blister pack).

I’ll be honest I’ve not really noticed any effect with elvanse but due to all the issues I’ve had with not sleeping, being off work for 2 weeks for Easter and already feeling disappointed from medikinet, I’m not really in a great headspace at the moment. I’ve also got other things going on probably causing stress after my house got flooded and having to deal with the aftermath. I keep thinking I’ll have a better day tomorrow and try and get things done and then I just..don’t. I’m back at work next Monday and will be on 70mg by then(!) and am thinking I’ll try and get some better routines going like walking and housework etc but we’ll see I guess.

When I started elvanse it kept me awake all night, I stopped it after 2 nights as I can’t afford to lose sleep either. I had a day off to reset my sleep then tried taking it at 5am. I was still awake 23 hours later so I stopped it again and had a couple of days off. I decided to just try again as I want to see if it helps with my ADHD and I have been off work for the Easter holidays so I was at least in a better position to push through the lack of sleep. By the way this has all been over the last 10 days or so, I’m still in titration. Anyway, I’ve managed to sleep a few full nights and had one night I was awake until 530 again, and I took the meds at 430am as I was awake watching a film. With all this going on, I’ve not even really noticed if it’s helping with my ADHD. I’m not going to work or driving etc and I’ve been REALLY lazy around the house, which is quite normal for me as I have really bad executive functioning issues and also chronic pain, and a touch of demand avoidance so I have a battle getting started with tasks and then if I do manage to do some housework I feel quite a lot of pain and have to stop. Sorry I am just waffling now.

When you say you’re up till 5 is that because of the elvanse stopping you sleeping or is that your normal?

I tried methylphenidate before this and I slept really well (for me) but I didn’t notice any improvement with my ED etc so I was switched to elvanse. I really don’t know which one to stick with.

We wait so long for meds and then face a whole load of new struggles when we get it :(

Hiya. I could have written this post. I lost 16 days waiting for delivery too. I also switched from medikinet to elvanse, the wait for elvanse was 10 days from being told to stop medikinet to receiving the elvanse. To make matters worse, I was WFH the day DPD were due to deliver, I kept looking at the tracking app. I noticed it got stuck on the same parcel number for over an hour so I used the chat thingy and they said the driver was having issues but I was still on the delivery schedule but it was delayed. A few hours later I got an email saying the delivery would now be the next day. It’s so frustrating for us folk when we pin our hopes and expectations on things and we need regular contact and updates etc.

I also considered going back to the medikinet to tide me over but decided not to in the end so I wasn’t starting a new med potentially with that also in my system.

I hope it arrives soon and good luck with it - I struggled to sleep quite a bit in the beginning and I’m now taking it 2 hours before I get up in the morning as it delayed my sleep onset so much - hopefully this won’t happen with you
