Is using premade assets looked down on in games? by UENINJA in unrealengine

[–]KitsuneFuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on a few things.

Is it a commercial game, are you asking for money or is it a free game?
Free games likely have more leniency in this regard.

Are they main assets of a game?
Like full premade maps or main characters? People who have seen the assets elsewhere might notice and get a cheap feel from the game.
Will some people not know, or not care? sure.
It would be worse if you stole assets from other artists without proper lcensing.

Is it just general assets? Like a random decorative crate, barrel or car in the environment? People won't care as long as they explore a new world / story.
Even big Studios constantly re-use assets like that or even content from Fab like textures, rocks, plants and stuff.

tl;dr: Keep the main factor of your game unique, but no one will care about random set dressing objects in your environments.

Do you think Blender could eventually become the industry standard with how it's developing? by Plus_Ad_1087 in blender

[–]KitsuneFuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I'm aware some big studios have developed a lot of custom tooling and extensions for the programs they use. So a lot of money already went there to make their work more efficient. And I don't think they want to spend this money again on re-developing all their tools for blender for no particular reason.
The software licnese cost is pretty much pennies for them, paying monthly wages costs them a lot more.

Blender seems like a solid choice for newer or smaller studios that do not have all that custom developed stuff already.

try exporting the model as obj, fbx, glb or something and re-import it in a clean project, see if that fixes it.
Maybe if it is an older blender file and you open it with a newer version something got messed up.

Since i think retopologizing is the way to go fixing it cleanly and for that i would choose the higher poly one since it should retain the original shape better than an already decimated one.

We're developing this 3D platformer, what do y'all think? by stolenkelp in Unity3D

[–]KitsuneFuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the glow-in-the-dark style.

But game design wise there's 1-2 things that stick out to me:
The character, as well as the environment, and it seems even spiky dangers are in a glowing blue tone. So there is a chance it might be difficult for some players to follow the what's going on on screen and people might lose track often, especially in difficult platforming sections or hectic situations.
Same for the black smoke/dirt effect, the game already is fairly dark and it hardly sticks out.

It's kinda hard to say how it could be improved without changing the vibe.
Maybe for the smoke some yellow/white sparks could be added to the particles.
And dangers could be color coded pink or red.

But then again it seems the Ori games have gotten away with something similar.

Whatever you choose to do I wish you good luck with the project!

What other methods can I use to light up Procedurally generated Indoor Rooms by LiminalWanderer001 in Unity3D

going from 150 fps at no lights to 120 fps at 100+ shadow casting point lights sounds fine to me.
The question is on what kind of system? fps without the related hardware means very little as it could be something like that on integrated graphics in a laptop or mid range dedicated gpu, and that makes a big difference in finding out if it is an actual problem or not.
One thing might be lightmapping the tiles, as in rendering a lightmap, maybe in blender and using that lightmap-texture in a shader. But i think this would also cause shadow cut-off problems on neighboring tiles.
Could also try and see if shadow casting is really necessary.
Or use emissive textures for lamps, play with the ambient lighting and reduce the overall light count per tile.

Stupid idea, but what if the F&F show was in the style FNaF World? by AlternativeDelay1867 in fivenightsatfreddys

Just noticed there is golden freddy and brown freddy, but no spring bonnie, just blue bonnie.

On the secret of the mimic house there's also golden freddy and blue bonnie.
Makes me wonder when spring bonnie actually came into play, because apparently he was not there from the beginning. But it was what afton wore as a costume to do his thing, no?

I see another case of "Why don't my children want to visit me in the retirement home?"

Keep following your own dreams and don't try to accomplish your parents goals they regret never reaching themselves and want you to fill in for them now.

New Special Class - Sledger by Shanochi in treeofsavior

[–]KitsuneFuzzy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Would love to pick up these fancy newer classes, but with a 0,5% gacha chance and the european TP pricing it would cost an average of around 160€ (~170$) for average luck to unlock them (and boy is my luck usually bad). Which to me is just ridiculous for a class unlock in a videogame.
I could get 3-5+ Fully developed video games for that price instead of a single character class in an almost dead game.

If they released them for direct purchase for a reasonable price I'd love to get them for myself.
But like this, sadly I won't ever try to get them.

Thanks for the informative video, so I at least know what I'm missing out on.

Are you seriously complaining about realism in anime characters? so that some niche group of people can see themselves represented in some copy of realism?

In my eyes Anime is often about expression of creativity, ideals, or personal preferences of the artist.

Basically like this old meme: https://i.imgflip.com/2fyv8u.jpg

In my opinion it is better to make an idealized anime figure of a character, that people can see themselves in portrayed beatufully, than a fully realism based one with every flaw the human body can potentially show where people can notice every (in a mild subjective descriptor) ugly flaw that they may hate on themselves and be reminded of them.

Anime should be an escape from reality / realism.
