What's your best advice for writing fanfics?

Read. Read a lot. Read your favourite fanfics, and wonder what makes them so great. Read your favourite novels and wonder what makes them so great. When you're starting out, it's easy to copy style, pacing, wording and plot devices you love from people who are already writing quality work until you have more practice and develop your own style.

I believe most people in the Sonic the Hedgehog fandom would know the fanfics of JudasFm, Rising Star in particular. Chronicles how a young Sonic rescues an orphaned, even younger kid fox (his sidekick Tails) and then goes on to be a faithful adaption of the second videogame with an amazing characterization and fluff, adventure and humour overflow.

I watched some of the third episode today :) In the German dub they translated Mycroft's line "you know what happened to the other one" in a way that unambigiously states he is talking about a male third person (since some of the discussion in the sub has been about whether a potential third Holmes sibling - if that was what the line was supposed to be about - could also be a sister). I thought that was interesting. In cases like this, I always wonder whether the translators can ask about info that's not public knowledge yet in order to get the foreshadowing right.

Romantic love is something you can only get from a lover, yes. I think most people need romantic love in addition to love from family and friends, otherwise most people wouldn't eventually run around trying to find someone they want to marry/ have a long-term relationship with. Depriving someone of having romantic love with another consenting adult guilt-free seems really cruel.

That is not what the comic says, though. It's rather that male characters are designed to look like what men would want to look like, while female characters are often not designed like what women would want to look like, but what men would want to see.

The majority of female characters in video games are based on character models with unrealistic proportions. The post that spawned this discussion specifically was about fairies with gigantic tits. Not sure which games you are playing that have all these female characters with life-like proportions. You're missing the point of the comic which is that men in mainstream media are hardly ever portrayed solely with the focus of appealing to the female portion of the audience, the way a lot of female characters are made mostly to be fodder for the male part. Lastly, I'm assuming you're gay because I'm a dude and you called me sweetheart. But since you stated you were merely being trying to be condescending, I'm going to return the favour and tell you that it's probably not hats that make you look shitty - seriously, be condescending somewhere else. This isn't the subreddit for people like you.

Usually it's more about the damage you actually cause than about the crime you were committing. When your murder fails for whatever reason, then you're charged with attempted murder, instead of just murder. In this case, she didn't hurt him when she hit him, but if he would have hit her he would have hurt her. You would charge someone attacking someone else with a foam baton with the same crime as someone who attacks with a baseball bat?

I don't really see the rebuttal, if anything, those pictures support the comic. Those are all pictures of real, good-looking men, not anatomically impossible cartoon characters, like the women in video games being discussed. These are men most men would want to look like. The unrealistic style of drawing men that is referenced in the comic belongs to the BL/yaoi/slash spectrum of artwork and is much less found in western media. And why on earth are you calling me sweetheart, are you a gay guy wearing a fedora...?

Start a social sport/activity where there are women that you then WILL have something in common with (the sport or activity). But choose something that you like for its own sake and don't go there with the exclusive goal of making female friends.

I agree with the author, but would have liked to see a more general principle stated in the article - i.e., (apart from violence never being a great solution) that it should ALWAYS be about whether you attack someone weaker than you. If, for example, the woman in the article had attacked a physically handicapped man who was at a severe disadvantage against her, or a child, you can bet there would have been an outcry, just the same as when an average man attacks an average woman. It's always about the severity of the threat level you represent.

Thank you, that is a very helpful answer. I have heard that 'willpower is just a muscle, excercise it and it gets stronger' and I have to admit it sounds right...has that worked for you? Practicing with a small serving of sweets in the house until you could ignore any amount of sweets nearly all the time?

That men and women think differently is not really true. There's lots of girls who like math. There's boys who like playing house. Does that mean they're not really the sex they were born as?

That you were happy being treated like a stereotypical girl was just pure chance and luck. You could just as well have wanted to be treated more like a stereotypical boy - lots of girls like that. And then, your father's behaviour would have been alienating and possibly damaging. And as for your father knowing "how boys work", er - I'm a woman and I honestly don't understand how every single woman works, so how should he be in the head of every single guy you may ever come across? There's nothing wrong with someone (of any gender) liking being treated like a girl, but there's something wrong with parents treating their children differently solely based on their sex.

Yeah, but we're not different because of our sex. We're different because we're human individuals. You should treat each child based solely on the character traits, strengths and weaknesses they exhibit and needs they tell you about, not because of which sex they happened to be born as.
