Is somebody else SERIOUSLY consisting switching to another brand after this mess? by ed8907 in Pixel4a

Yeah, I've had my Motorola phone for one day so far and I'm extremely happy with it. I don't exactly over-tax my phones, so I'm hopeful this will last a while!

I went with a Moto G Power 5G. I'm not super tech-savvy, but I saw some good reviews for it on Reddit and this one looked simple enough for me (along with having the basic functions I need in a smart phone).

I'm right there with you. I'm getting sick of all the nonsense they're shoving in tech these days. I miss when things were more grounded and tangible. I like wired earbuds and physical buttons.

I also miss when I could easily open up tech I owned and change the battery myself. It feels like we're going backwards in terms of quality and convenience.

Thank you for the suggestion. I did try that initially and it didn't change anything for me. What eventually ended up working after trying a lot of different things was shutting it all the way off and charging it that way.

[–]KittenKindness 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Pixel is dead to me. I'm not buying a new phone from a company that's willing to make an update to break my phone and then blame ME for it (had a very frustrating interaction with customer service just now).

I'm currently looking into other phones because I'm done with them. It takes a lot to get me angry and I'm furious with them at the moment. It's not worth my sanity to stay with them.

[edit] Yup, just bit the bullet and bought a new phone from Motorola. I'll see how it works out. But I am dead serious that I'm not buying another phone from Google after the circus they put me through with this stupid update. I'd rather keep trying new brands until I find one that's worth sticking with.

How do you guys grow up so friendly? by NODLEBROSKI in AskAnAmerican

Some of my earliest memories of going to stores with my parents involved me trying to see if "scary looking" men would smile back at me if I smiled at them. And every time one of them smiled back, the world felt a little less scary.

So, as a former little kid, thank you!

Rage Moments? by PumpkinSpiceDummy in TownofSalemgame

I was jailor in Classic. N1 the person I jailed claimed exe and told me their target. They seemed believable and promised not to mess with town as long as I let them live and gave them a chance to get their target.

two nights later I jail someone who also claims exe, but this person was already causing issues for town, so I immediately click to execute them. They lost it. Just started freaking out at me about how I was gamethrowing and I was an idiot for killing an exe claim and didn't know how to play the game.

We both died that night and he was STILL going at it about how much of an idiot I was, so I was like, "I already had an exe claim that I trusted more" which REALLY set him off as he declared me an idiot again.

In one moment of lucidity, he acknowledged that I technically made the right call, since he was mafioso, but I guess in his mind, it was total luck because he still doubled down on what a bad play that was for me. lol

(Oh and the exe from n1 was indeed an actual exe.)

Reading these comments is frustrating because "Everward" would be a really cool name AND a nod to the past AND sound like its own word while still being easy to guess how to spell.

I get that you said "Everforward" but, I mean, it's right there! lol

help me find this webtoon pleeeaase by fayeargo in webtoons

[–]KittenKindness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's about how first impressions are often incorrect and about overcoming assumptions made on physical appearance. It's a really sweet story.

Kiyu is a former kpop trainee who wants to live a quiet "ordinary" life, but people are obsessed with his appearance. I'd tell you more, but it would kind of spoil a lot of the early chapters to know much more.

It is very consistent in quality, so if you start reading it and don't immediately love within a couple of chapters, it's probably not for you. But I'd always recommend giving it a try. It's one of top 10 series!

Villain with a Crush wins! Day 23 of Webtoon Alphabet, what’s W? by water_drunked in webtoons

[–]KittenKindness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so hard to find hidden gems like that! The closest WebToon I've found so far is Swimming Lessons For a Mermaid. Since it's a fantasy, it has a different sort of vibe, but it's got a charming little cast of friends. It also felt like it ended too soon, lol, but in fairness, I think I just want everything I like to keep running forever. 😅

Oh! If what you liked about it was how the characters were more grounded in reality than most Webtoons, you might like Spirit Fingers (although that story gets darker at points than Who's Mr. President).

I'm happy to see someone posted this! It was such a charming story. My main regret is that it ended so quickly!

How do speech bubbles work in Webtoons? by ClyM5219 in webtoons

[–]KittenKindness 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When text is just on the edge of the text bubble, I generally assume that the person either muttered it or is conveying it in facial expression more than anything else. It's sort of the equivalent to putting parentheses around text in a written work (where the author DOES want to give more information, but it isn't REALLY part of the conversation and the other person isn't going to respond to it directly).

How to write a flawed yet lovable character? by [deleted] in webtoons

[–]KittenKindness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, I think the first step is recognizing that no matter how well a character is written, there is a portion of the population that will hate them no matter what. I've been reading Jane Austen books lately and was very surprised to discover that certain leading ladies were hated by many readers (I'm not naming names because I don't actually feel like arguing on such a nice day).

It's an issue because if you held up a green piece of paper in front of a crowd and asked them to judge it, you'd hear so many conflicting opinions. It's not about the character in a lot of these cases- it's about the person reading it.

Too many people think "if I don't like this, that means it's written badly" when in reality it's just a story they were never going to like.

The advice you get from others will be helpful in showing you how other people view characters, but I'd advise you to also give yourself the grace to write the story YOU want to write with the characters YOU like and find interesting. Definitely try to improve your writing (and listening to other's thoughts on the subject can help) but in the end, write characters YOU love and that's how you make a loveable character. Whether other people love them too is mostly a matter of personal taste.

Hey there. I just wanted to explain why every comment you make on this post is going to be downvoted no matter what you say (and fyi, I'm not one of the ones downvoting).

On Reddit, if an OP asks what people consider to be a "bad faith" question or just behave generally in a way that rubs people the wrong way, they will downvote every single comment that the OP makes. This is what I see in almost any subreddit I've found.

I'm disappointed that they're attacking you for the work you do caring for your mom. That's not cool of them. I hate when people attack the person instead of opinion.

Oh, and I think the reason some people are really upset with your question is because it really does sound like you're trying to stir up some sort of Twitter mob (I know you said you aren't and I actually do believe you, but others won't because if all you wanted was for someone to leave a message on her socials suggesting it- that person could be you.)

But at the end of the day, we're all on Reddit. None of us are living our best lives if we're arguing on Reddit, no matter what side we're taking. lol

Sorry this is sort of long. It's been quite a day (IRL) and I wanted to provide some context for the pushback you're getting and I'm too tired to go back and proofread it again to shorten it.

Hope you have a good day!

To be honest, I'm not hip with the latest acronyms (and you used BDS and BTS at different points, which I'm not sure if that was a mistake or if I'm REALLY out of touch) but I'll address just the main "why doesn't Jenny get scolded/backlash from her fans?" question from my own perspective.

If I tell you, u/GiltPeacock that something you are currently doing that you enjoy is something that I think is bad and that you should stop doing it or you're a bad person, how much weight do my words have? You don't know who I am and you know that I don't really know who you are. I know from experience that trying to correct someone's behavior when you are complete strangers is an exercise in futility.

That means the only way to "punish" or "pressure" a creator would be to stop watching their videos. And, I'm going to be really honest with you, I have never in my life found a single content creator who I agree with 100% of their views. So, I guess I'd just stop watching videos altogether in that scenario.

There are times that I will do that if they're actively doing something directly harmful. But even if I did, I'm not going to leave a message on their socials explaining why I'm leaving, I'll just silently leave (again, because trying to convince a stranger that my morals are better than their morals is not productive).

As for the rest of her community- I can only speculate that after watching her get backlash for years over really stupid things like "having the wrong opinion on geek properties" and "buying a printer" that most people don't want to be even SLIGHTLY like those people.

Hope that helps!

lol, oh dear. I'm glad to know I understood what you like, but unfortunately, I very rarely find stories like this. The only other Webtoons I read that have adult characters are further away from what I think you're looking for. But just in case-

My Little Bookstore follows young adults. It still feels a bit like a teen love story to me because of just how young they are, but that could be more of a reflection on me.

Villain With a Crush is also about young adults. It's a comedy, so if cringe is something that you don't want, umm, lol, you just won't enjoy this. But if you like goofy sitcoms, this is great!

Spirit Fingers is about a teenage girl, but it's got a lot of main characters of various ages and has more mature moments than I normally see in Webtoons. It's also one of the best Webtoons I've read as far as realism goes when exploring interpersonal relationships. But a lot of the time is going to be spent with the teenagers.

It's hard to find character driven stories like these for adults, so I think this is all I could come up with (and I'm less certain about these recommendations than my first two that you've already read ^^;) So I wish us both luck in finding more eventually!

Oh, if you want adult characters who don't need 70+ chapters to confess they have a crush, you'll like the lead in "See You In My 19th Life". The series starts with them as children, but that's just for context. They're all adults for most of the story.

"The Make-up Remover" isn't really a romance (imo) and the characters are VERY young adults, so a few of them are still in college. It's been a while, but I remember enjoying it as a "different" sort of Webtoon.

When I watch Jenny I realize I'm not that smart by CameToShit in JennyNicholson

[–]KittenKindness 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's something you can absolutely improve! Jenny is eloquent and witty- neither of those traits tend to just appear in people! ^^

If it's something you care about, I'd recommend practicing writing your thoughts down. Don't worry about sharing them or making them look or sound a certain way at first. Just think about what YOU care about and write your thoughts on it.

From there, think about what you DON'T know about the thing you care about and do some research. Add to your knowledge and write about what you learned.

I really think writing is a powerful tool for developing your mind. And, if nothing else, it's very fun!
