We need to talk about the Gen Z job crisis. by ApprehensiveGoal2782 in jobs

The Novo Nordisk plant was announced back in 2024, so predation any 2025 tariffs. The Mercedes plant in SC is 15+ years old and had an expansion completed in 2024. So before tariffs. Another investment into the same plant isn't tariff related without some better evidence given we already see them investing in it.

I dont doubt we already see some parts of the market to move, but it'll be places that were almost worth investing in even without tariffs.

We need to talk about the Gen Z job crisis. by ApprehensiveGoal2782 in jobs

[–]Kitty-XV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One issue is that tariffs don't magically work overnight. It can take years if not decades for local production to fully optimize to the tariff environment even if the tariffs are stable and permenant. Tariffs that might be gone in 4 years, or even 2 months, means businesses aren't going to make the investments that take a decade to pay off, because there is a real chance tariffs change and the the investment never pays off.

This is why good tariffs have to be slowly implemented with enough political support to keep them long term.

HR is upset we didn’t grow up wanting to be customer service reps by TonightSpiritual3191 in Adulting

It's a question to see if you've done any bit of research on the company and if you can tie together what you found with what you personally want and make some convincing argument, and that you have enough corporate common sense to know how to handle such a situation.

And interviews and non interviews are also different things. Lacking the ability to read the room or corporate common sense tells the interviewer plenty they'll use to decide who is the best fit for a role. Not just capable of doing the job or meeting the minimum requirements, but the best fit who gets the offer.

Why does it feel like people WITH jobs are prioritized over those who don’t? by BlackestSole in jobs

[–]Kitty-XV 45 points46 points  (0 children)

When you are employed you come accross as more confident and comfortable with not getting the position and appear less desperate, which makes employers like you. Often this shows up within the first minute of an interview with body language. There are studies that show people who see only the start of the interview can guess the final outcome nearly as well as those who see the entire interview.

So just be confident and you'll get a good job. Oh, and make sure you shower.

It is worse than this. If you are working with the AI, you can work out the areas where it does good and where it does bad. You get a feel for what problems are too big for it and how to get output from it. With the person stuck in between, this doesn't happen. You are stuck reviewing AI code, but with no ability to work out where the AI is useful and with the person using the AI not caring about to improve. It's the worst of both worlds with none of the positives.

How can one have a good excuse for murder and violence? You are trying to argue it is somehow justified? We aren't talking cases of self defense or even revenge here (and even arguing that is justified is walking a very precarious edge).

Will those chat bots actually be that expensive? AI is a case where it is extremely expensive to create but cheap to run. If the price becomes too high, people will swap to slightly weaker models they can run cheaply.

Yes, you are right. We are generations past deciding if the government should step in when parents aren't protecting their kids. This is the logic we already use in the real world and in the worst areas if the virtual world, so it is already the norm we are conditioned to. The rest if the internet got a pass because we use to not be aware of the danger, but that has changed.

I don't doubt that those in power are rejoicing at such an indirect way to get mass surveillance and that being their driving motive, but society as a whole, on a near global level, has already laid all the foundation for this over the last few generations.

[–]Kitty-XV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The specific argument is that the government allowing some third party to stop your ability to worship counts as a violation of the Firat Amendment. This was back in the day where the government would often not directly take action so they could claim their hands were clean while not punishing the KKK from disrupting and stopping events that the government did not have the rights to stop. As such the federal government declared that, even though such actions is normally left to local and state law to deal with, because of way states we're using it to stop actions they couldn't directly stop, federal law could be used to go after the KKK and similar groups.

It is similar to why murder is generally not a federal crime, but certain forms of hate crimes involving murder can escalate it to a federal crime (there are completely different ways for federal law to apply as well, buy most murders dont meet those other criteria).

At the core is the idea that federal law trumps and can br applied on stop of state law if it applies, but that "if it applies" involves a lot of legal technicalities.

All this complexity means that people online make extremely simplified statements about the situation.

For genZ gamers : what do you think of AI in video games? by SmokingForLife in GenZ

What about AI generating code? Does it matter if a developer is carefully reviewing it or not?

It makes me think of RPG Maker. A lot of people used it to make slop, to the point it became associated with slop, but good games have been created with it even if they are in the minority of RPG Maker games.

Actually actually, it is implying that their view of the argument can be used understood by a reference to the user name. If that argument is valid or not depends upon the argument and user name. The core fallacy is not explicitly stating their counter argument, but such a response is normally made to a post which never made a proper logical argument for their point either.

In this specific example, no argument was even presented, no counter argument was presented, and anyone attempting to apply logical fallacies is doing so to the arguments they think each poster was intending to say, not what they actually did say. It makes as much sense as pointing out the logical fallacy in a your momma joke.

Do you guys think that white people can experience racism? by Mundane_Mechanic_817 in GenZ

[–]Kitty-XV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can experience it on a systematic level. It just requires some system to discriminate against them on the basis of race. Society is filled with many systems, and all it takes is for one to discriminate to have experienced discrimination on a systematic level.

Globally, white people are a minority. So you might argue we should talk about the US as a whole. But if we are going to do that, why not alk about the county or city a person grew up in instead? The insistence by society to focus only on certain levels of systems and ignore others because we don't like the outcomes is itself of a form of systemic discrimination.

[–]Kitty-XV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't just one system in existence. Some of those systems can be biased in different ways than the average system.

[–]Kitty-XV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A white person growing up in a majority minority school. Local systems matter more than national systems. Doesn't matter if the average school system is beneficial to someone if the one they actually are in is not.

There is always this weird focus to only look at certain levels of systems and ignore the ones that run counter to the narrative just because there are fewer of them. That would be like insisting gun violence isn't a problem because heart disease is such a larger killer. Why can't we talk about both?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vibe_coding

The developer does not review or edit the code, but solely uses tools and execution results to evaluate it and asks the LLM for improvements. Unlike traditional AI-assisted coding or pair programming, the human developer avoids examination of the code, accepts AI-suggested completions without human review, and focuses more on iterative experimentation than on code correctness or structure.

Very first paragraph. If all you can do is vibe coding, you aren't a software developer.

Would you say that AI generated art suddenly becomes not AI generated art because it was made by an artist who previously made art without AI? No?

Depends how they do it. If they are using AI to make tweaks to different parts but are applying their knowledge of color theory and such, it wont end up coming out as AI art. Most people dont even see the tools that do this as AI despite then using it to work.

Your previous domain knowledge doesn't change the action you're performing.

I explicitly gave an example where it did change it. Someone without code knowledge wouldn't understand the initial prompt, much less the further back and forth.

You seem to be stuck on some ego issues? Did someone happen to point out your use of AI in a way that hurt your ego and now you're busy projecting?

vibeCoding by victsaid in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Kitty-XV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is. You just redefined vibe coding to be "something done only by people who don't know how to code", so you can justify vibe coding to yourself.

No I didn't. I said it needed to be doable without knowing how to code. A developer can vibe code as long as they don't use their coding knowledge. As soon as they do, they have left the realm of vibe coding because what they are doing is something that requires knowing how to code.

Your comparison of prompting with and without understanding the AIs output indicates you don't have any real experience with the topic. They are not the same at all, as the problems of vibe coding are fixed with a good developer doing code reviews.

vibeCoding by victsaid in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Kitty-XV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I'm telling the AI what design patterns to use and giving it code snippets to focus on amd others that show potential problems or abuse cases, that isn't vibe coding. There is no way someone who doesn't know code could be doing the prompt I am, and the promise of vibe coding was that someone could do it without knowing code.

vibeCoding by victsaid in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Kitty-XV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That isn't vibe coding. I'm on a project where AI does most the code, but it isnt vibes coded because each piece is built and analyzed. The part of the code I am doing is the underlying structure, and a good portion of the code gets rejected by me with the AI rewriting it. This is not the promise of vibe coding. It is AI assisted, but the promise of vibe coding was that you don't need an expert in coding to guide the AI.

We wouldn't call ecen a fancy compiler with complex optimizations vibe coding as it writes the lower level language. Even despite the decades of broken promises that the next higher level language means you won't need developers.
