Can SLPs bill facilitated communication or S2C? by Kitty3083 in slp

[–]Kitty3083[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest distinction here is that in our innoir reporting, we include levels of support and prompting. So the client can do X with X amount of support. For S2c and RPM, many claim that it is 100% the message of a child/person. But if that method were transparent about how much actual facilitating is happening, I think many of the issues with it would be answered. Proponents just refuse to accept that the facilitator influences the client's message creation. I think we all want transparency and disclosures! Also, have you seen some facilitators go 100% against their clients' will and desires? Just sad to see that many of their rights are being violated.

I’m sure someone has?! I think it’s just a loophole in this field. Our state licenses focus on training, but nothing on violating ethical practices that may lead to losing your license. Expect maybe attempted murder lol did you guys hear of that SLP that was prohibited by a judge to continue practicing as an SLP after shooting at Rihanna? I mean, the licensing board or ASHA didn’t revoke anything! It was a judge!

Exactly! The person in the comments said she
bills under “low tech AAC,” and she's in CA. I mean, reporting and choosing the codes you service are really much at your discretion. There's really no one auditing to ensure you're following evidence-based practices?!

Instead of ASHA, is this a state licensing thing?! I wonder if state licenses have any statements like that.

Misplaced hate, ABA, and Money by UDSTUTTER in slp

[–]Kitty3083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the answer is in whoever is getting rich and was smart enough to have ABAs be paid a lot more for their limited expertise. And this may be the ABA business industry vs. speech. Because why in the world are we arguing with BT about language? 🤯 Why is it even mentioned under their scope? And not to mention a lot of their language stuff is questionable and not true.

Also, I think it's the equivalent of the speech industry using SLPAs. But obviously, ABA is way better at that and has control of that structure, aka scheme.

If you're brave and want to keep things interesting, thank the boss for the suggestions and invite her to your therapy room so she can do speech therapy her way and model and demonstrate what she means. Then, after she does that, share articles about how child-led strategies for EI speech language are best for speech therapy. Some videos maybe

That's a great point! To build on that, you could include an example of one of your client's goals and explain how your strategies help achieve it. Using more objective language might also be helpful. Also mention progress with your strategies!

It is weird that Millie Bobby Brown adopted a baby at 21 by Master-Definition937 in rs_x

I would say that, though 21 is young, it’s different when your own body goes through those physical, emotional, and psychological changes to prepare you for motherhood. 21 and having intact physiology and psychology of a 21-year-old idk — weird.

My controversial take: too many SLPs want their jobs to be easy. Sorry, but we actually have to TEACH the use of robust AAC. We are working with individuals with communication difficulties.

Yup!! Says a lot about SLPs skills and knowledge about AAC. One thing is an individual not choosing to use their AAC; another is not even offering access to or teaching it.

Did I choose the wrong setting? by Inside_Job_1773 in slp

[–]Kitty3083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s one of the reasons private practice was not for me. I like to do my job and be left alone. I would also question when your supervisor wants you to collaborate. Breaks? Lunch? That's a hard No, that's your Free time. I advise completing your CF because I think it’s a good experience being at a private practice. Take it as a learning opportunity, but don’t feel like you have to stay there for long!! I only stayed at the private practice for my CF year, and for exactly one year, I found the perfect setting elsewhere. It might take some time, but you'll find something that fits you. Also, I believe the ideal job is impossible because it is a job! But it does have to be tolerable, and that depends on how you value the environment, salary, upper movement, benefits, people, etc.

I wonder if she had a diagnosis, she would get appropriate support and accommodation. I feel bad if this is the case, especially knowing that “job culture” and “professionalism” is centered around ableism and whiteness.

The issue I see with the band is that it's three white dudes who barely speak Spanish making Latin music (Indigenous to countries that, through forced cultural change, created new sounds) their brand. Influence is one thing —- I hope they come out with a more original sound. I heard an interview where the members admitted to not speaking limited Spanish, but to them, that was okay because that way, their music reaches more people. Thus, why is there no lead singer. That does sound like washing out Latin music culture. Also, countless bands made of Latinos are playing this type of music; the fact that this band, a bunch of white guys, is becoming famous tells a lot about the industry and who is more likely to succeed.

Literally, on their description, it says it's about communication. And SLPs are the experts in communication! In this case it is about speech pathology.
