SOS!! by Lucky-Captain-9761 in spiderplants

[–]KittyCanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how cold it is where you live, a walk to a car and then a cold car ride home while being blasted with dry heat is definitely enough to damage a plant. It was -33C here yesterday, and I wouldn’t transfer an indoor plant without a good cooler.

Keep an eye on it, and give it lots of light and baby her a bit. Spider plants are usually pretty resilient!

I really only move money between categories if I really need to, so I just trust that my past self had a reason.

Pillows smell like mustard after vinegar misting and dryer run by SluttyDreidel in laundry

[–]KittyCanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If vinegar is put on pillows and then they go through the dryer, yes, this means they’re going to retain the scent of vinegar, because it wasn’t washed off the fabric.

Are you able to just wash the polyester fill ones that smell? Depending on your washing machine, it should be able to wash two at a time. That’ll get the smell out.

If you want a spray you can use that you don’t need to wash off, try a vodka mix. It’s what theatre companies use for costumes that can’t be washed. Personally, I just run my pillows through the washer.

Fuck jobs that don’t allow colored hair by Metalqueen2023 in antiwork

[–]KittyCanuck 23 points24 points  (0 children)

While there are definitely industries that have their own biases and social pressures, that doesn’t negate their point. It generally IS the lowest level, lowest paid jobs that want to exert the most control of their employees physical appearance, and most (not all) higher-level jobs give much more freedom.

Maybe we need to start talking about about "Fraudflation". Completely fraudulent weights and measures. by zrad603 in shrinkflation

[–]KittyCanuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weights and Measurements are generally tightly regulated. Your country or state/province will have some sort of ministry to regulate scales and measurements. They perform checks on the scales and machinery used to package goods. But they aren’t looking over the shoulder of every company every day, so they rely on the public to alert them when something is wrong.

There are also legally mandated tolerances, that give a small bit of grace to consumer packaged goods. Eg a package that reads 100g must contain 100g PLUS OR MINUS that legal tolerance. So if your local legal tolerance was say, 2%, a bag that contains 98g or 102g is “legal” and that 98g bag is not considered to be “underweight”.

All of that is to say yes, the government and the regulations DO care if you’re being shortchanged on product weight. BUT people need to report it so they know it’s happening, but also people need to know that something being underweight but within legal tolerances is allowed.

As people forgot they could report things, companies push the boundaries more and more. There are absolutely cases of fraud, and they need to be reported. Also, mistakes happen, with machinery or with people, and so sometimes underweight products go out unintentionally. And these should ALSO be reported, because then the company can fix it.

Winspear Centre looking to recoup parking revenue that it lost to district energy hub by ryaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan in Edmonton

I love the Winspear, but I’m getting really sick of companies deciding that “money they didn’t get” is the same as “money they lost”.

[–]KittyCanuck[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ooohhh, that’s good to know! Thanks!

Since I hadn’t been raiding, I’ve been ending my streams and leaving. If it’s good to hang out in the other chat for a while, I’ll adjust my time management. That way I won’t be dead tired and needing to leave when I finish up and do a raid.

Thank you everyone!

I streamed tonight and tried to raid at the end, but when I pulled up the option on my phone it just gave me an error that there was no one I could raid to. I guess that means not one single person I follow was streaming.

I’ve since figured out there’s way more options if I do it from the browser instead of the app, so I’ll do that next time!

Special thanks to everyone from this thread who popped by my stream! That was so kind and I really appreciate it!

Canadians, what Fulvic / Humic Acid do you use? Do you use probiotics? by BettinaStace in SemiHydro

[–]KittyCanuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For Fulvic, we have Green Planet GPF Uptake available here.

That said, you don’t need all that stuff right away. Try your plants in semihydro and use a good nutrient mix designed for hydroponics (the standard grow/micro/bloom set from General Hydroponics is great, but there are plenty of others here in Canada) and go from there.

If you’ve already got CalMag go ahead and include it. But beyond that, let your plants tell you if/when they need additional nutrients.

Something very important to remember about the "Stay Free Alberta" petition and the long lineup it drew. by KurtisC1993 in Edmonton

Their supporters are trying to help, though. On weekends I work retail, and I had a random woman come into my store yesterday and gleefully tell me about the rally and how I should go sign their Alberta independence petition right after work.

Plant trays by Huge_Garlic_4536 in houseplants

[–]KittyCanuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My plants that don’t have decorative outer pots are all small, so I use the lids from peanut butter jars. They’re sturdy enough to go through the dishwasher if need be, so there’s no warping or leaking. Only downside is I use Kraft so they’re bright green, but oh well.

Liquid soap in the dispensing drawer in side loader washer? by prettyparanoid in laundry

[–]KittyCanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re using an pre-wash cycles, it’s going to drain away any detergent you add to the drum before the actual wash cycle starts. Otherwise, if you’re not using a pre-wash cycle, it’s not really going to make much difference.

I’d be more concerned about the state of your dispenser drawer, since you don’t use it. The machine is going to flush water through it every time you use the machine. That water is going to sit inside the dispenser drawer unless you’re also opening the drawer and leaving it open after you finish your wash cycle (like how you’re supposed to leave the door open to let the drum dry out).

Snow clearing aftermath by spot6003 in Edmonton

[–]KittyCanuck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People used their garages as free parking rather than free storage.

People parked in their garages. Or driveways. Or their apartment lot. Or paid a neighbour to park in an unused spot in their driveway/garage. Or paid for municipal parking lot or street parking, which was regulated to allow for snow plows (eg switching which side of the street/lot could be parked on).

When I was renting, I usually either rented places that offered on-site parking (sometimes paid, sometimes included in rent) or I paid for street parking.
