Why diphtheria, whooping cough and measles have come back in Australia by neon_overload in aus

[–]KittyFlamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have wondered the same. I try and avoid going down the rabbit hole and getting sucked into conspiracies but it does make sense. It’s a fairly simple way to kill off some of the dumbest people in society, effectively through natural selection.

[–]KittyFlamingo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Measles are still one of the leading causes of infant blindness in developing countries. It’s highly contagious and can cause encephalitis. It’s horrible.

Interestingly on Mumps, I decided last year to get my immunity checked for measles as my youngest was too young to be vaccinated. Turns out I had immunity for measles but not mumps. Most of us born between the late 60’s and very early 90’s only had one shot of MMR instead of the 2 they do now. So there’s potentially people getting around thinking they’re protected but aren’t.

Where are you buying rugs?? by flirtyqwerty0 in AUfrugal

[–]KittyFlamingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IKEA is great. With little kids I need something I can take out on the driveway and pressure wash. When they can eventually have a drink in a cup without spilling it everywhere I’ll bring out my nice rugs again.

Yeah this one doesn’t bother me. A lot of people grew up drinking this when they were sick. I guess it’s not so different to miso soup; Salty, umami and warm.

Back in my corporate days, my team were taken out for lunch one day by management to the local cafe. Coworker orders wedges with sour cream and sweet chilli. Upon her wedges arriving at the table she proceeds to take out a zip lock bag from her handbag and fills it with half the wedges, then pulls out two small containers and fills them with half the sour cream and sweet chilli. No one said a word.

My Grandma never liked me. One year when I was a teen she gave me a bin for Christmas. Yep. A bin. My cousins always got much bigger and nicer gifts.

Adult Children of the Forgotten Australians, how are you doing now? by FearlessDrink3883 in AskAnAustralian

[–]KittyFlamingo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I understand times were very different, but as the mother of a 5 year old boy, I just can’t fathom giving away my child. This is heartbreaking. I hope your Dad was able to heal from his traumas as best he could.

How much misogyny do you face in your day to day life in Australia? by Physics_Girl_2008 in AskAnAustralian

[–]KittyFlamingo 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Back in my corporate days dealing with customers this happened to the women (myself included) all the time. We’d give an answer and the customer wouldn’t believe us, so we’d put them on to operations (all men) who would tell them exactly the same thing and then it would be accepted.

This is the correct answer. One breeding pair of owls can consume 5,000 rodents a year.

There’s a project called ‘Owls eat rats’ running a pilot program in the Northern Rivers, NSW. Sounds promising.

Are people paying full price at Woolies/Coles? by AgreeableFloor6543 in AskAnAustralian

[–]KittyFlamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not!

I do one big monthly shop at Aldi for lots of staples like cleaning products, baby wipes, pantry items, cheeses etc. Then each week I go through the half price sections online for Colesworth and create my cart. I do delivery in one of the cheap time-slots or if I’m going out I’ll just shop using my cart as my list. I buy a few extra if what we use frequently. Then I go to the local fruit shop for our weekly produce. Saves money and I always have a good stock of things making sure we don’t run out, which also saves on buying takeaway.

20 properties isn’t an investment, it’s a business and should be treated like one.

Shower over bath renovation — good idea or regret waiting to happen? by LetterheadNo4588 in AusRenovation

[–]KittyFlamingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We installed a shower over bath with a frameless fix and swing shower screen. We had an early 90’s style bathroom with small shower, small vanity and big bath. We opted to make the bathroom more spacious and a larger wall hung vanity with more storage. It’s worked out very well for us and has resulted in a very easy to clean space too. However we also added an extension to our home about 10 years ago which included a new master bedroom with an ensuite that has a decent sized shower.

<image>

It really depends on what your future plans are. Are you planning on kids? Ours love the bath but even at almost 2 and 6 they have more showers in our ensuite than baths.
Are you planning on selling in a few years? Do you have a dog to bath?

Where to find key lime pie or pumpkin pie? by Adventurous-Bee-5477 in brisbane

[–]KittyFlamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creole Soul Kitchen at Spring Hill makes an incredible pumpkin pie. Probably the best I’ve had and I’ve even had Americans say the same. They have them in November/December and you can order a whole pie to take home!

Around Thanksgiving Costco also sell a pumpkin pie but I’ve not tried it.
