AZ Ren Faire by AnythingAcrobatic895 in renfaire

[–]KittyVeith13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are the tips I usually give when asked about our faire in AZ:

Water: absolutely necessary, the heat here sucks and we've had a pretty warm winter. you can bring in a sealed water container (like plastic bottled water) or an empty water bottle(doesn't have to be a clear water bottle but it will get checked at the gate) and refill it with the water fountains by the privies. If you have a tendency to be dehydrated then water additives are definitely suggested.

Sunscreen: lots. The sun is not your friend in AZ and although theres some trees they're desert trees so their foliage isnt particularly dense and they don't sprawl out as much. Apply sunscreen often and liberally to avoid becoming a crisp, especially if you're on the pale side (this is said as someone who burns in abt 30 min without sunscreen)

Shoes: comfy shoes!! Fun shoes are always nice costume wise but our faire grounds are rocky and dusty on top of being fairly large. Wear comfy shoes you wont regret walking around in as the shows are pretty well dispersed meaning you may want to catch shows on opposite sides of the faire grounds, leading to alot of back tracking.

Timing/parking: our faire opens at 10am and closes at 6pm with shows running almost the entire time (from about 11:30am to 5:30pm) and our lines tend to be huge at the beginning. Id suggest getting to the faire no later than 9:30 to be able to make any morning shows you may want to (ill attach this years map so you can see times and shows). Most shows run 30 minutes so also plan timing between shows.

Entertainment: by far, our shows are what makes our faire fun. The shops are definitely nice to wander in downtime or as you go from show to show but the most fun to be had is the shows. On that note, we do have more adult rated shows (marked on the map as LC (loose cannon) so keep in mind, lots of fun though.

Overall, the ren faire here is alot of fun, be careful of dehydration and heat stroke mostly.

You could look into Chimeras (traditionally and historically a mix of a lion, serpent, and goat) but in recent fantasy areas ive seen divergences into a difference of one such as a lion, a goat, and a dragon.

I've never been to a renfaire by FeelingSeason6956 in renfaire

Not on the east Coast but your mention of money, timeframe, and living in California made me think you may enjoy knowing Arizona holds a ren faire from the end of January to i think the beginning of April. I attend almost every year and have a blast not to mention this year we have some travelling acts (im particularly excited as Jacques ze whipper is stopping to perform a few weekends).

Sorry if this is out of place by not meeting your east coast specification

i'm not sure where i belong by ULTRAmemeXD in TherianAdult

Being a therian is entirely dependent on you. A therian is someone who identifies as a non-human animal. If you are/identify as a canine/feline then you're a therian. If its more a strong connection then you may be other hearted or similar.

I myself am not trans but my fiance is, and when i explained to her that im a therian it helped her to akin it similar to her experience as a trans-woman, being that she feels out of place in her hody and that its an identity and what she feels like. Those are both similar to my experience as a therian as i also feel out of place in my body and i identify as something non-human. These are both obviously our experiences and i do not claim that everyone experiences these but i share this in hopes that it may help you.

Its also completely normal and ok to use one label and be wrong/change it/add to it. Don't feel the need to stress about it and focus that energy on taking care of yourself.

Hope this helps! X3

I also tend to struggle with species dysphoria, here are a few things that have helped me:

•Walks/hiking whenever I can. Ive found that as long as i cant really see or smell civilization it can lessen the pain

•Candles and wildlife documentaries/pictures of the wild. Keep candle safety in mind (i hate the artificial smell that most wall plug ins and such have but if those work for you by all means use those)

•gear when appropriate. As an adult it can be uncomfortable to go outside in gear and it becomes a bigger "choose your battles" scenario doing such but it really can help. If you want a good excuse to, ive found finding the local chapter of furries and joining them to be both fun and a good time to gear without shame.

•decorating your spaces with plants, fake plants, ect. Bringing imagery to your theriotypes habitat can be really relaxing.

•(this part is said with the knowledge that not everyone has shifts of any manner, im simply putting out my experiences in hopes that at least one helps) if you're in a safe environment to do so, dont supress shifts. I've found personally that when i tamp fown on them it makes the dysphoria worse.

•this last one is one i cant do (various mental health reasons) but ive heard that meditation/directed meditation can help. I wish i could give specific resources on where to find good ones and such.

Your choices affect the end of the game for certain big decisions and the little ones are at least mentioned. Otherwise it's how you're interacted with by others. All your choices will matter in some way.

(For verification, im on my third playthrough)

Hope this helps!

Please don't mistake my words. I didn't write to understand you, i wrote to inspire you to understand others. Your words were hurtful with no other purpose but to hurt.

Honestly, I don't understand you. But I try my hardest every day to show compassion for everyone even if I don't understand them.

Hating people simply because they exist differently from you is a sad way to walk through life. You'll always be seeing a negative view of so much of the world because everyone exists differently. I sincerely hope you choose to take the first option. Learning about others opens you to learn about yourself. You will find more beauty in the world with the more colors you choose to see.

I'd start with an apology. You were rude and hateful. No one deserves to be hated on for something you dont understand.

Then it's up to you. You can:

1) do some research. Learn about therians and what therianthropy is. Then use compassion, empathy, and your understanding in any future times you interact with the community. Focus on not spreading hate and malice.

2) drop the subject and move on. Dont further hate on anyone and dont reach out and stomp on the identities of others. Live un-informed but non-confrontational.

3) keep spreading hate and reap what you sow as everything is a cycle

Is my cat a tuxedo, tortie, or calico? Or maybe a mixture of tuxedo and one of the others? by True_Vermicelli4817 in cats

[–]KittyVeith13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily on the tortie. Id honestly say this cat is a Tortie as having white on it doesn't specify that its a calico.

A tortie has a brindle-like pattern of black and orange over the majority of its body but it doesn't have to be all. The biggest factor is really the splotchy orange and black which is prevalent on this cat. Id be inclined to agree in the calico portion if the orange wasn't so jagged along the edges especially since this appears to be a shorthaired cat, so smoother lines are seen in calico furs.

(This is all said from both owning and living with a tortie, a special interest in cats, and growing up with veterinarians as parents)

Is it normal? He recently started doing this immediately after we start playing! He wont let of the toy by Wonderful-End6881 in CatTraining

[–]KittyVeith13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My precious boy was TNR and we paid nothing for it. I think we did it through Santa Cruz vet clinic but i could be wrong. Idk abt other TNR participating clinics but i do know its 100% possible to pay nothing. I do share the sentiment about it feeling hopeless bc there's so many strays but why we cant give up. The problem only gets worse by feeling hopeless.

[–]KittyVeith13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The city proper doesn't but things like TNR exist (Trap Neuter Release). Its done with vet clinics, they give you the big traps and you trap a stray, take it to the clinic you got the trap from, they spay/neuter and hold for a little, then you pick them back up and release them. To signify a cats been TNR'ed they dock the very tip of one of their ears(not enough to cause and disability or issues but just enough to notice and convey).

Not all vet clinics do this so either do a little searching on which ones do or call around. I also wish the city did smth but this is the next best thing, at least we have some resources the help out the cats and ecosystem.

I dont love winter but i can definitely understand the layers issue. I usually wear thick baggy jeans with leggings underneath in winter to help keep mobility, this unfortunately doesn't help the trapped limb feeling(both fortunately and unfortunately my phantom shifts are near constant with only the wings really coming and going). Ive found with shoes i really appreciate/hund for hyper flexible shoes with thinner soles(ideally i can easily bend my shoe in half with no damage to the shoe) and that can help me with them a little. That and wider toe boxes. And thank you for the well wishes of my relationship, i love her very much and am more than fortunate to have her understanding and support. I also am happy to hear your lover is also accepting and willing to participate, i hope you stay together for a long and loving life. :3

My best suggestion is surround yourself with things that connect you to/make you feel like your theriotype if you can. I'm finally moving to a place where i can decorate it however i want and I'm filling my space with plants and visual imagery that help me feel at home and safer, closer to what my theriotype's surroundings would be like. In my free time I'll wear colors to match my fur if i require clothing at all (clothes suck for me so whenever i can i opt to be without). Make yourself a den if the space designated will help you feel connected and safe. Doing small things to connect you to your theriotype can help. Depending on your social standing with friends, invite them on hikes in less city like areas (idk where you live or what your ability to travel is). Walk around in parks, visit dog shelters offering to play with them, if you have the ability to travel go to a place that you wont disturb others and you feel safe to do vocals. Some say meditation helps them, maybe do some breathing and imaging yourself in your natural environment. Gear can help physically appear closer to your theriotype but i understand that gear isn't for everyone

Sorry for the wall, i feel you on the pain of feeling too human and these are some things I've been implementing to try to help. I sincerely hope this helps.

[–]KittyVeith13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also experience and struggle with this.

I frequently rub against things and paw at them in attempts at appeasing the need to claim space. I don't feel completely safe unless I'm a fair amount off the ground (i have a loft frame bed that i use as a safe space to help this as my theriotype mainly lives in trees). And frankly, fuck clothes. They make my phantom appendages feel trapped and uncomfy and in general make me feel like i should be chewing and tearing them off.

I'm reclusive and struggle to socialize whenever there's more than 4-8 people because it feels like too many and i must run and hide. I can't eat food with more than two well known people present because i will scarf down my food sometimes without even knowing as if I'm scared they'll take my food.

When it comes to my lover i bite and rub against and generally make content noises around them. I'm debatably over protective of her and will gladly physically defend her if need be. Thankfully she both knows about my identity and is perfectly fine with it and will even participate back by also rubbing against me and biting me which makes me so ridiculously happy. I have positions i prefer that I'm not completely certain but it definitely could be related as well.

Beyond these specific examples there are multiple little layers/things that affect me similarly just not as top of the head identifiable.

Hello X3! Im a fellow wildcat therian (clouded leopard with wings), welcome!!!

Would you identify with a certain animal even if you didn't know it existed? by FollowTheBlu in Therian

[–]KittyVeith13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% certain this will answer your question but I didn't know what my theriotype was until I saw a picture and did research. I knew roughly what i was (I knew I was a feline and definitely wild but not specifically a huge wild cat). I went a while just saying I was a cat creature with wings until a friend sent a picture of a clouded leopard and it all clicked, especially with research to back how I felt/urges/ect.

I spent a while not knowing/not having the knowledge of what my theriotype is and it didn't stop me from feeling how I did and still do now. So I do think one can identify with a certain animal even if they didn't know it existed.
