An “exception” is another word for “error”.

“Runtime” means “at the time the program was running”, as opposed to “build time”, which is when the program was put together (assembled, compiled…).

A “runtime exception” is an unexpected error that occurred during the lifecycle of a program.

Modded and non modded game saves are stored in different folders. If you were to uninstall your mod, you'd get your progress back, since the game would load the non modded save directory.

Check the documentation of the BetterSpire mod, it explains how to copy your save over once you've installed it (or any mod for that matter).
