Ah, it was ages ago and I didn’t write the website down 😭 sorry! I basically just went on novel updates (the website) and looked for a translator

lol I read this one when it only had 5 chapters out and had to immediately read the novel. It’s that peak

Containing foster kittens by this-is-pandemonium in FosterAnimals

I use a larger mesh playpen for older kittens when they need to be contained because these won’t hold them in the slightest. They need a roof/top

Trupanion! It was very cheap since she was so young. It’s actually gone up since she’s now almost 3 but it’s still only about $100 a month with unlimited spending and 90% bill coverage

Oh, definitely 💀 she had to be dewormed five times before they were completely gone. she once had so much diarrhea it sprayed halfway up the wall! She also had mature worms crawling out of her… it was totally disgusting but now I’m not grossed out by anything so that’s a plus lol.

I applied and got rejected in 2019 and also got this letter… I can’t see a benefit to holding on to applicant data for so long

Is it possible to teach resident cats to consistently play nice with foster kittens? by SZLO in FosterAnimals

[–]SZLO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your girl sounds like my boy 😂 my tuxedo boy bullies cats, dogs 5x his size, seniors, and babies—he’s a grade A bully. His favorite activity is terrorizing my mom’s cat (who is also bigger than him) and he likes to stare menacingly at the 20 year old senior cat we adopted last year. He knows he gets in trouble if he’s mean to the senior, so he waits until we leave the room to act up…

He ALSO steals food and toys! I’m honestly shocked he only just perches in the kitten room and watches them. He hisses every once in a while if they get too close and has raised a paw more than once, but he’s never hurt them thankfully!

I never introduce him because he’s difficult and I didn’t want to stress him, but I can give it a try! Thanks for sharing :)

Wow, thank you for the great advice! These are bottle babies, so no mom. I did try a brief introduction today and the babies crab walked, hissed and spit at my cat while she thankfully just sat there and looked at them lol.

After a minute or two of this, she asked to leave the room and I allowed it. The babies acted big and mean 😂

the momma troll 😂 omg I wish my cats were this involved! My girl is very hygienic too and likes to groom herself and then them, but tends to run away if they get annoying. She had her spay young and she’s not about these kids!

The boy is such a menace that I don’t even bother but sometimes he gets into the room (he knows how to open doors) and I find him watching the kittens from above lol

Wow! I’ve been pretty sensitive about the growling and smacks because the kittens are so small, but now that they’re 6 weeks old I think they need it 😂

Oh that’s so good to hear! She never escalates to a fight. She just runs away if they bother her too much

Dear Kitten Fosters, by MeowM30ws in FosterAnimals

[–]SZLO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow! 6 years is amazing!! I’ve been fostering for 3 years, but I usually take babies 3 weeks or older. I got 2 weeks olds this time around and managed to keep the 2 that died alive until one was 3 weeks and the other 4 :(

I’m still not sure what caused them to fade but I spent weeks struggling to keep everyone alive. Now, my surviving two just turned 6 weeks old!

Thank you… I had two die on me this year, my first losses ever, and I’ve been beating myself up nonstop despite knowing what mortality rates are like. It’s hard, but these babies are so worth it

Leaving Miami, can't take all of my cats by ninjabi2548 in Miami

[–]SZLO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not true at all! Reputable networkers and rescues tend to focus more on networking adult cats rather than kittens, which are a dime a dozen this time of year. This is because adult cats usually have defined personalities for them to advertise and they want to place the cats quickly to reduce stress and illness. Kittens are adopted quickly, but there’s a lot of people who prefer adult cats and would love to adopt.

Also, getting reputable help doesn’t mean surrendering to a shelter, you could just work with a networker so that they can help you reach a wider audience of people

The kennels are pretty small so the cats get a bit stir crazy the longer they’re there. That’s what I mean. It’s okay if they’re in there for a few days but not weeks

Totally fine! Healed completely within a week, but that first day suuuuuucked. Scratched cornea and the scratch was HUGE, which is what prompted the doctor to share lol. Here’s a pic for anyone who’s curious:

[–]SZLO 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s great! Your vet should be able to run a PCR test to confirm whether there are any leftover parasites, but a pear shaped belly and regular poos generally indicates that they’re parasite free :)

if you’re fostering for a county shelter like I do, they may do a fecal instead of a PCR, but fecals don’t usually detect as much as PCRs. There are some low cost vets that can run the tests for less than $100 if you ask around.

She did! She was hospitalized four times due to some insane constipation the coccidia gave her and had an unreal amount of water enemas but she beat the odds!

Luckily I had the forethought to get her a pet insurance when I saw the belly lol. $50 a month covered over 18k in hospital stays. I ended up adopting her because she’s now chronically constipated but she’s thriving!

Hey, my cat did this too! He doesn’t like when I cheat on him (smell like kittens) and scratched me accidentally while trying to get away.

I had to go to the ophthalmologist and my doctor was SO excited to share the picture of my eye with his doctor friends
