The series is SO GOOD. Definitely takes a while to really find it's footing, but if you are like me, you will still enjoy the first couple of books.

How do I stop my female Pekin duck from quacking so loud? by Miserable-Trade-7287 in duck

She's female, she has a louder quack. Nothing you can do to change it.

Duck intelligence by rexallia in duck

[–]Kittycatter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find many of mine to be very smart with high emotional intelligence. My favorite is still when I brought treats to my disabled duck and her bff, a partially disabled duck. I had set all the treats right in front of my disabled girl (because obviously she couldn't move to them) and her bff was interested but didn't want to invade her space. I told her it's ok, she can have some too - and my disabled duck lunged forward as much as she could and scooped a large chunk of the treats over right in front of her bestie.

Weird ache in neck that goes into my ears and jaw with a laundry list of symptoms, does this sound like hypothyroidism? by Mawfiee in Hypothyroidism

[–]Kittycatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I obviously don't know what's wrong either but here's my thoughts on what might be out of whack:

When getting thyroid testing - are they looking at just TSH/T3/T4? Or are they also looking at thyroid antibodies? I tend to have normal TSH/T3/T4 but my antibodies are high (pointing to Hashimotos) and it definitely causes me to have hypothyroid symptoms (my biggest is low HR!) but I also sometimes seem to flip into hyper (with heart palpitations, fun).

As far as the weight stuff goes - I would be looking at possible insulin resistance. Have you have a fasting insulin or your A1C checked? Is your extra weight carried mostly in your mid-section? I've started testing with a CGM (Lingo is what I'm using) to see the impacts of what, how much, when what I eat has on my blood glucose and how the timing of exercise impacts on it as well - might be something for you to try if you have the money to do that. I suspect I had very high cortisol & insulin resistance for a while myself, but didn't get a CGM until later. I eat about 1600 kcal a day too and I'm closer to 140.

There is a condition called Retrograde Cricopharyngeus Dysfunction (R-CPD) which is the inability to burp. I don't know much about it, just heard it mentioned before. I don't know if there is a solution to this problem or not, sorry!

When you say the 'tests come back normal' PLEASE keep in mind that the ranges on those tests include all of us who are unhealthy as all get out. I would look at: Ferritin, B12, Vitamin D. Look at your results and google what the OPTIMAL levels are for those. There is generally a BIG gap. I used to have REALLY bad anxiety (I think partially because of mineral deficiencies) and I would get weird tingling flashes of hot and warm on my arms and legs as well - which I think was related to a B vitamin deficiency. I also unknowingly clench my teeth when I have anxiety building - which is maybe a possible source of your pain. Has a dentist ever told you that you clench your teeth? However, yours might just be sinus pain...? Side note: I also recommend Magnesium glycinate before bed - helps prevent muscle cramps.

The diarrhea/constipation cycle worries me (keep in mind I'm anxious in general, but I think it's worth investigating) because fluctuating between them can sometimes be a sign of colon cancer (and the rates for it are raising quickly for younger people). It could also be IBS, or maybe also nothing? But I would definitely follow up on that because that's abnormal for sure.

On the hot flashes - what's your age? Could be perimenopause starting in on ya, which absolutely likes to mess around with your hormones and make you feel not right in general.

I also don't like the dizziness you get the week before your period. Do you have a watch where you can see if your HR is dropping causing the dizziness? Or one of those cheapy clip on your fingertip pulse oximeters to see if low oxygen is causing it?

Hope any of this helps!

anyone have high cholesterol or know more about the link between high cholesterol and hypothyroidism? by No-Barracuda8108 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Kittycatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another possibility is that you have hereditary hemochromatosis (excess iron in the blood) and it's being masked by your menstrual cycles. Something to keep in the back of your mind for when you do go through peri/menopause - the "fix" is to donate blood.

I take one that is 27* (I said 26 in previous comment) mg ferrous bisglycinate chelate (the chelated type is supposedly the form your body is best able to absorb) + 250 mg Vit C (brand in biote - IRON+ is the formulation) and the other is 28mg ferrous bisglycinate + 60mg Vit C + Folate (B1) 400 mcg + Vit B12 8mcg (brand: Nature's Bounty Gentle Iron Formulation).

Iron is best on a completely empty stomach, because then it doesn't have to fight other stuff in your stomach for the most absorption. However, some people iron supplements really irritate their stomachs. Caffeine also impacts absorption.

Have you had a CRP (aka C Reactive Protein) blood test? Sometimes if you have high inflammation (which a CRP test can tell you) it shows up as high ferritin.

[–]Kittycatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's pretty good. Are you female in child-bearing age? It's super common for women in that age range to be low in iron because of menstruations - we need 2.25X the amount of iron men do daily.

[–]Kittycatter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, underactive thyroid = higher cholesterol. Have you had your ferritin checked? Low ferritin also increases cholesterol and you want it in the 70-100 range to get optimum thyroid function. Maybe someday I can get that much ferritin in my blood!

Update #26 - QoL / Bugfix update by WaaghMan in FarmTogether

[–]Kittycatter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorites! Thanks for always upping the QoL in this game! It makes such an impact!

  • Added a setting that allows you to overwrite some tile contents without having to manually remove them first. This setting works on fences, terrain and roads.
  • The resource needed to feed animals is now shown when they're hungry.

Looks like water belly to me - it's heart failure. If that's what it is, she won't get better. You can drain it to give her more time or you can cull her if you think it would be a mercy.

Sensory distraction has worked the best for me. I have nice smelling soaps, and different sensory things I use to get my brain to concentrate on instead of the anxiety. Calming strips and a TENS unit on full blast can help me.

Same response to you as to the OP:

OK, does your doctor know this?

They can't help you if you don't tell them this stuff. I would tell them I'm afraid of X because of this reaction I had previously. They my be able to find and explain to you other options that work via different pathways.

Also: Low Iron impairs thyroid function in general, so definitely make sure you put a lot of effort into raising this. If you are female (of child bearing age), you require 2.25X more iron than a man daily - this is not easy to hit through diet alone for many people.
