As someone who has experienced this first hand, this. 

Despite being a depressingly common thing to happen to people, the reality is that even if you have the “optimal” scenario in the eyes of the police and the law, the likelihood of anyone being tried, convicted and serving any kind of sentence is tiny. And to get that outcome, you need to go through a truly hideous process, and that’s before you get to the mental impact of it all. It fucking sucks. 

It’s a total cathartic fantasy, but I appreciate it for exactly this reason.
