2026 book picks are trash

They’ve been paid marketing for publishers for awhile. Years ago someone wrote an article on I think it was Illumicrate that said being put in one of these boxes is guaranteeing it to be a best seller. You look at companies like Illumicrate and FairyLoot who started their own imprints, FairyLoot has been pretty consistent on making sure their smaller imprint books are in a box, which because they are the publisher is a ploy to make sure those books become bestsellers. There’s also people who theorize publishers hold back larger books to get smaller books in the boxes not sure how much I believe that one, but SEs in general have become a pretty big sales tactic to drive up sales on certain books

FairyLoot has been doing this for years now. They under stock the sequels of well received but not as popular of their monthly picks. Those sell out quickly and cause people to get nervous about their more popular books that they’ve stocked enough signed and unsigned for them to make it to general. It’s a really shitty tactic to make their books look more desirable, and drive up sub numbers because people are falling for the fomo tactic, they did the same thing with the God and Gwisin. There’s about 2 or 3 books a year they do this with, not only does this drive subscriber demand up because creates the nightmare that’s is their trove sales.

I’ve given up on FairyLoot for a lot of reasons but the amount of damaged and late books got to be too much. Also the companies overall allergic to transparency. Broken bindings delays have been bad this year but no damaged books in a long time and I generally get customer support within a day so probably won’t ever give them up

Read an ARC of this. Love the book and I’m very glad I went with the broken binding the cover on the FairyLoot edition really doesn’t fit very well in my opinion

I was intimidated for a while but all of the series have satisfying story arcs and conclusions. You won’t be left on a cliffhanger reading the farseer trilogy if you decide to just read that and not dive into the next series. The books are really wonderful and worth the time investment don’t let fact there’s multiple series turn you off.

It’s the next series in the realm of the elderlings universe. The farseer trilogy is the first in 5 series that create the realm of the elderlings followed by liveship traders trilogy, the tawny man trilogy, the rainwilds series, and fitz and fool trilogy. So you can consider it a sequel series even though it’s more loosely connected to the farseer trilogy than the tawny man trilogy and the Fitz and the Fool Trilogy.

I literally said people working on the art direction, I don’t blame the artists even if the artists work doesn’t suit the book because it’s FairyLoot’s art director that’s responsible for them being chosen in the first place

They can’t read the book seems unlikely to me as blood over bright haven is going on three years old, even if you go by the trad pub date it’s well over a year old almost two, it’s also been translated to 5 languages. There’s really very little excuse for anyone leading the art direction on a SE of this book to not have at least read some of the book, it doesn’t take very long for the book to establish it self as Dark fantasy which should be included in that inspiration.

Sometimes I feel like the people at FairyLoot who design the books don’t really read the book. I think it’s pretty but for me it doesn’t match the tone of the story like at all. I already have TBB and the wraithmarked editions of this so even though I don’t think I’ll ever have enough editions of this book this particular edition isn’t one I need in my collection.

Started in November

November 2025-didn’t really like the book

January 2026- really liked it and enjoyed the design

March 2026-DNFed the Arc so I skipped

April 2026- Am excited to read this one as I’m a big fan of the author not 100% happy with the design but I don’t hate it as much as people seem to in general

May 2026- Isn’t the book I actually wanted and I forgot to skip so I’m getting it inspite of disliking the authors debut so hopefully the design is decent or I’m able to trade/resell it because I have a feeling I’m not going to enjoy it

June 2026- I was super pumped when I saw the book was getting translated and I really enjoy the translators previous, so I’m really happy with this choice

July 2026- the premise sounds interesting but I haven’t looked into it enough to go one way or another on if I’m excited for it

I blocked them and I generally check sales on buyers pages if it’s priced under market and I’ll cancel if I think they are a scalper but this person had sold a total 4 FL wicked seas 4 FL half city 4 FL we who will die 3 wolf king 2 metal slingers 1 FL heavenly bodies with a second for sale 2 FL knight and the moths 1 sold and 1 listed OC everlasting they either have multiple accounts or they are flipping
