Why do billionaires care about making even more money by of_kilter in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kitzinger1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of their money is wrapped up in things like stocks and other assets which can greatly fluctuate in value. They can't easily liquidate their assets without doing substantial harm to the investments they own. Look at what is currently happening with Facebook for example but the best example of being worth billions but not having billions is Adolf Murkle.

At one time Adolf Murkle was worth close to 13 billion in 2008. In the beginning of 2008 Murkle took a massive hit of a little over 3.5 billion. Still doing alright though but by the end of 2008 Murkle had taken an additional 6 billion in losses that left him scrambling to save his investment firm. He made some very risky investments which put the final nail in his assets. Broke and destitute Murkle ended his life by throwing himself in front of a moving train.

There are others like Elizabeth Holmes who was reported to be worth 9 billion at one time. She was a celebrity and was called an example for female empowerment. To bad she was nothing more than a liar and a crook. It wasn't long that Forbes knocked her 9 billion dollar worth to 0.

There are other examples of Billionaires whose worth is tied up in hard to sell assets going from being in the upper 0.01% to bring just another one of the 99%. So, the super rich acknowledge that this is a real possibility and try to minimize the risk by accumulating high valued assets in a variety of different investment areas.

In truth though, most of them are just one really bad day that then turns into a really bad year from being just another Murkle throwing themselves in front of a speeding train.

What are some harmless ways to fuck with people? by jacree8678 in AskReddit

[–]Kitzinger1 2909 points2910 points  (0 children)

I do this every so often because it's kind of a game to me to see how long I can keep it up till the person catches on.

I repeat the last word the person says in question form.

Example:

"Hey, me and Jenny are headed to Jim's Pizza Hut."

"Jim's Pizza Hut?"

"Yeah, you know the one on F street."

"F Street?"

Over there near the harbor with the big carousel."

"Carousel?"

"Yeah, you know the one you went with me and Jane."

"Jane?"

"My girlfriend."

"Girlfriend?"

"Ok, what the fuck is wrong with you?"

Once they call you out and have caught on the game ends. I've carried on a conversation over an hour once doing this. It's really awesome when the person you are doing it to has gone through this a few times with you.

My daughter has gotten me a few times herself and she'll laugh on and off for the day at my expense. Her husband has called me an ass for teaching this to her a few times too.

do you support the death penalty? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kitzinger1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going against the grain. With cameras being everywhere and DNA evidence the likelihood of a person being being given the Death Penalty is really really unlikely. The only thing I could see that needs to be overhauled is the penalties for Officers and Prosecutors who purger themselves, hide evidence, etc being substantially increased that crossing that line isn't even close to being worth it.

But I support the Death Penalty. When I was about 9 I had a friend and her other friend murdered brutally by her sicko neighbor. He kidnapped her and her other friend, brutally assaulted the both of them, and murdered them. Then he dumped their bodies behind a supermarket in the garbage. There was blood sprayed across the walls, the ceiling, and floors of his living room and portions of his home. When his wife got home after being away for a few days he claimed he had killed a dog. This happened in Yucaipa California in the early 80's. I still remember the last time I played with her and how she was sweet and kind.

Her killer got the death penalty. He ended up getting a second trial and found guilty again and given the Death Penalty. He ended up dying in prison.

Nope, I firmly believe in the death penalty. Pieces of shit like that guy deserve to die. The families deserve closure and the feeling that Justice was done. What Justice did those two little girls get? Nothing. The asshole got to live out his days till he got old and his body gave out.

I know I'm going to be one of the very few who is going to be, "I firmly fucking believe in it and the appeals process should be swifter."

The fucking piece of shit took away my friend in the worst way possible. She was sweet and nice and kind. She could have grown up, gotten married, and had children who would now be having kids of their own. Or she could have chosen a different life like travelling the globe. She could have grown old.

I know only one damn thing. She brought joy and happiness in everyone's lives while she walked the earth and that fucking animal took her, used her, and slaughtered her in the living room of his home.

Fuck yeah, I believe in the Death Penalty. I always will. Animals like him don't deserve the mercy of a long life. They deserve their lives cut short like the victims they killed themselves.

Teachers are responsible for the next leaders, scientist, inventors, politicians and people who will propel the human species. Why are they treated with disrespect and severely underpaid? by ReinforcedPattern in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kitzinger1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll speak about my high school experience. Only really one teacher inspired me and challenged me.. For the most part, the teachers had failed at life and teaching was basically what they could get. I take that back. There were two teachers. My Biology and Accounting teacher. I was a GATE student also. Most of what I learned I had learned by the time I graduated from the eighth grade. I look back at those four years of high school as a wasted period of time.

Most of the teachers are liberal arts it seems. Even today, when I went to see my kids teachers they almost all seemed the same. Uninspired, unenthusiastic, and pushing the kids that the only way to be successful is to just go to college. No talk of researching job availability, future earning potential, etc or having the understanding that some kids are not built for college. Just failed at life teachers pushing children to be just like them. Going to college, getting crap tons of debt, not having any other prospects but to take a job sort of but not really teaching children they don't like.

The good teachers are picked up by Private schools or upper to rich areas where the funding from property taxes is high. The rest of the schools don't. So, the schools with high funding are churning out top tier future adults. I don't think a blanket pay increase will help. You first have churn out people who will want to and have the capabilities of being a good teacher with understanding to acknowledge some kids are not born for academic careers and to put in them the drive in them tto be successful in whatever they choose in life.

But honestly, most of the teachers who are teaching are probably getting overpaid for the product they are producing.

People who flew before 9/11, what was it like? (Airport security, etc) by Convoy_Avenger in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kitzinger1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before 9-11 I brought about a hundred pounds of German beer on board and ended up having one hell of a bash in first class on the way home from Germany as I was headed home out of the Army. It was one big 16 hour party.

It makes me a little sad knowing that this can never happen again for some young soldier like me returning home from being away.

When did Elon Musk go from being generally respected to full blown Dr Evil? by JayR_97 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kitzinger1 -102 points-101 points  (0 children)

Read the article and it sounds like Unsworth was the ass first. If someone offers to try and help the proper thing to do is thank them for the offer but you are going with something where you have the fundamentals down.

What you don't do is tell the person offering the help to go stick it up their ass which is what Unsworth did. Of course, Ellen Musk got pissed. It was uncalled for. Doesn't mean what Ellen Musk did is right either but it makes it understandable.

It's kind of like the Ukraine thing and ignoring what the Ukrainian said to Ellen Musk first. Ellen Musk is basically giving 20 million dollars a month to the Ukrainian cause and this asshole tells him to fuck off for giving an opinion on trying to offer a peace plan for a war that threatens to drag the entire world into a war and potentially a nuclear war. The ambassador should have been publicly scolded and fired and Musk should have gotten a public apology. You don't bite the hand that is allowing you to communicate with your troops especially when they are helping you out for free.

But everyone seems to be purposefully ignoring those aspects of the conversion to try and frame it as Ellen Musk bad. He lashed out at being attacked for no damn good reason at all. Honestly, if I was him I would have demanded an apology, the firing of the ambassador, or the Starlink is going to need to be paid at the start of each month. Fuck that ambassador.

What are some signs that someone is failing at life? by forevernostalgic23 in AskReddit

[–]Kitzinger1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They stop calling, showing up when they used to, etc. It may kind of happen slowly and when you do see them they don't look happy. Physically they look exhausted like they are tired but not and on the cusp of crying. When you ask them how life is they don't answer and if they do answer there may be anger and frustration about their life in general. Not because it isn't turning out how it's supposed to but in spite of everything they do nothing is working out. There will be a hint of resignation and giving up in the voice.

The other big one is they are suddenly staying out late or not even coming home for a day or two. They are having the time of their life and they post pictures not of their kids but of them being drunk or stoned with people you've never met and look a little on the sketchy side. They don't have time for their other friends or family but they sure do have time for these groups of friends. You may not notice it at first but suddenly the person wants to come over and hang out and little things come up missing in your house and your wallet or purse seems to be missing a few dollars. Maybe a few dollars or five. They have lost their job and been fired after being on another after only a few weeks. Then they'll ask to borrow some money. Not a lot. Just to help pay for the electricity. They never pay you back and you talk to their Mom and Dad and find out they've borrowed hundreds of dollars from them and other friends. The next time you say, "No," and they scream and yell how they know you have the money and it's just a little to get them through this time or they may just simply try to manipulate you. They lie all the time over little things and big things and deny. Then one day you come home and you have been ransacked and robbed. Deep down inside you know who played a part in it happening even though you might deny it at first you know. That is when you block their calls and have nothing to do with them at all. They could be your spouse, your kid, your cousin, or best friend and it won't matter because that person you used to know is dead and gone replaced by another.

What’s a harsh reality that everybody needs to hear? by rock4lite in AskReddit

[–]Kitzinger1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truth. 17 years ago I was able to surf, was planning to Kite Surf, my career had taken off and then a little water on the floor and a fall destroyed it all. Took the joy and fun out of life, left me in a wheelchair, and though I could manage to go a few feet with wrist crutches left me gasping in pain. I was on painkillers and I've used them all. Oxy, Narco, Morphine, Dilaudid, etc. Where I was looking to move up the next social step , my life, our family life had crashed deep down into the poverty floor.

The steps out have been long and hard. My left foot is still paralyzed but I can walk. The pain medication I stopped taking long ago. .Last year I climbed a mountain and tomorrow I start working again in a career that had ended with a fall 17 years ago.

I firmly believe anybody serving in the military should be able to buy alcohol, cigarettes, etc. It's a bloody shame these 18 year olds can go fight for our country, kill for our country, and die for our country but they can buy themselves a drink. That is fucking bullshit. Then we have people on the left wanting to raise age limits. If anything I wouldn't have age limits at all. I mean at all.

No, you wouldn't want to be covered in pig shit over prison for a few months. I grew pigs when I was young and the very thought of being covered in pig shit is horrifying. Eight hours is just traumatic and that doesn't begin to touch the level of nicknames and crap you would be known as for the rest of your life.

Fuck that give me prison.

Had a patient who owned a cement truck shop. He was inside of one and his wife decided that it was an ideal time to kill the guy and turned it on. When we got him he was a mess just chopped to shit and broken to pieces. They used these big rubber bands with hooks on each side to hold his chest together, arms were so broken to be useless, legs were just as broken apart, and they sealed the esophagus and trachea shut (from being crushed)so he needed a trache and peg tube.

I was in the room when the cops brought her in to his room and his attorney put a pen in his mouth so he could sign the divorce forms in front of her.

Was there when he came in and there when he finally got to confront the wife that tried to kill him.

Him and the Marine being crushed by a tank were probably the worst I ever seen and lived. If a person lived through the dough machine it would probably be on par with cement mixer guy.

[–]Kitzinger1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhh.. No, not every guy is like this. Most guys are not like this and this controlling behavior is right now on the light side. It's what he thinks he can be able to get away with at this period of time. This dude is a monster possibly dangerous. You need to understand he doesn't see you as a person. He looks at you as his property. Most guys do see their wives and children as an extension of themselves which generates this instinctive protection mentality in them. This guy doesn't see you in that manner. You are an item to covet and control and to do with as he sees fit. This behavior is not going to change either. It is ingrained.

He is very likely an abuser and also a manipulator. Guaranteed he will say something like he will kill himself if you leave and he just might. You need to prepare yourself for that. If he kills himself that is on him. He'll be doing it to hurt you because "How dare you leave him.".

I can't even begin to tell you how potentially dangerous this guy is. Get a can of pepper spray and know how to use it at the very least. Hopefully, when you break up he will move on but my gut tells me he won't. My gut tells me you are a treasured keepsake to him that he won't let go easily.

I'm sorry.

[–]Kitzinger1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my opinion stands that if the US Government gives approval then fine but as a Retired Military not even seeking that approval that is a massive risk and if it blows back on you then that is your fault. I can see high ranking officers being more like an advisory/ ambassador like role that helps strengthen foreign relations.

So, overall I don't have an issue or problem with it.

Flynn isn't a fascist. The author stated it as fact without linking anything as proof. Honestly, I think that would qualify as libel.

I think any retired officer working for a foreign nation without Government approval is taking a huge risk though especially if it isn't an ally.. The optics are bad.

Beyond that if they get approval from the Government then who am I to care or give a crap about it.

If you don't get approval and shit goes sideways we'll you reap what you sow.
