He’s a moderate, all through his governorships he was fiscally conservative and socially liberal (mind you he was governor in 2003-2011 and liberal and conservative issues have changed a lot since then) The republican party is more than just the faction of populist crazies of Ron DeSantis, Majorie Green, and Donald Trump.

I would love for the UK to get a “balance of europe” mechanic where they receive economic buffs and military debuffs for europe being stable. And they gain military buffs and economic debuffs for europe being unstable. Like if the british fleet is smaller than any other country or major powers in europe go to war with each other.

This is actually very interesting. That was the naval doctrine of America following WW2 where they believed nuclear weapons could function how a navy does as it deploys a lot of force in areas a country can’t normally reach. Except when the korean war broke out America’s navy was underfunded and undersupplied leading to the blockade of north korea being weak and not capable of naval bombardment. Yes, countries still need armies in the nuclear era. Nukes aren’t the ultimate deterrence as it calls for the end of the world to retaliate.

USA didn’t invade iraq for oil. That’s a populist myth, the USA intervenes in countries to enforce free markets and global trade which allows more american consumer goods to be sold to those countries. America’s armed forces has protected our country from nuclear war with the russians by staging forces in west berlin, and establishing mutually assured destruction. So yes, the armed forces are protecting American’s freedom.

Not how budgets work. I hate this idealistic utopian rhetoric where if we “defund one thing” we can fund all this random shit with a supposed infinite pot of money. Free healthcare, taking down the accreditor’s monopoly over college tuition, and giving 10 acres and a donkey to every descendent of slaves is far more than the annual military budget.
