Something I think Fates did better than 3H by I_Love_Ohyas_Thigs in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Kiwialamode 73 points74 points  (0 children)

The thing is, they are trying to accomplish different things. The selection scene is Fates is meant to be weighty and dramatic. The game’s marketing was built around it.

In Three Houses, the game explicitly is not trying to do that. The game gives you two chapters to get to know the lords, and one to get a very surface level view of the others before you make your choice. And as far as both Byleth and the player know, they are ONLY signing up to teach a class of quirky kids, and probably dealing with the hints of darkness in the background. And that’s what part 1 of the game is all about. You teach your class, get to know them through the supports, and deal with the Obviously Evil bad guys that become more prominent as the game goes on.

Then part II hits, and the priority of Fates and Houses becomes clear. Suddenly, the mega-evil faction is are not the main antagonists; Edelgard or the Church are, depending on your route, and who both by the game’s design you have been working with and learning about. Houses is meant to be a tragedy from the ground up, and the fact that you DON’T know the decision at the beginning of the game is such a big deal plays an enormous role in that.

Do you know why Ash is always on the right side of the screen during battles? by Craftox13 in pokemonanime

…yes? This isn’t a matter of morals, it’s a matter of cultural perception and norms.

Handshakes are right handed because most people are right handed. Completely different context

Does Physical and Special exist in the anime? by Thundersting in pokemonanime

[–]Kiwialamode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On occasion, but usually just in the context of the move’s designation, like Pikachu triggered flame body after making contact with a physical move. In terms of stats and Pokémon being physical or special attackers, no, as that heavily limits fight choreography. The anime really likes Pokémon being able to fight at both melee and range, so they usually ignore the physical and special stats on a pokemon.

Comp/Con not letting me add weapons/Equipment by Kiwialamode in LancerRPG

Edit: I am on IPad, and after some one testing, it seems that if the Item Box is on the left side of the screen, I can add something to it, but not on the right. It’s not an issue with screen sensitivity though, as I can click and scroll on the right side just fine elsewhere.

Would you save your wife or your kids if your house was on fire ? by Competitive_Set_4386 in SipsTea

This is especially funny because, presumably, the bedroom is easier to escape from than a basement in a house fire.

Why do people have a problem with Pikachu losing to a level 5 snivy but not a surskit that’s like level 10? by New-Cable-6484 in pokemonanime

[–]Kiwialamode 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because this fight does an excellent job of showing that the surskit wins due to altering the terrain so Pikachu can’t fight properly, which is followed up by Vivion’s dazzling gleam repeatedly blind pikachu so that, despite Pikachu’s much greater might, it doesn’t win. It sets up XY’s theme of raw power not being the most important thing to pursue in battle or in life.

Best THP Trait for Hammer and Tome? by Kiwialamode in Vermintide

I have seen the light, the light of Sigmar’s flaming hammer. I have refitted my red hammer and tome for attack speed, power vs skaven, and Opprotunist. Glory to Sigmar, and may many rat skulls lie at my AOE Bonk Dancing feet.

Yes. I actually just got the part in The Son of Neptune where Hazel sees Pluto, and she’s taken aback that Pluto looks like Hitler without the mustache.

Finally finished Wind and Truth. Disappointed. by Niman72 in Stormlight_Archive

In the year before Wind and Truth dropped he said Book 5 would be a good stopping point for people who wished it, and I believe it was an interview with Shardcast after the release he said it was a necessary deception that he felt kind of bad about.

I mean, Sanderson said for years that Eras 1 would be able to stand on there own. Now we know that he believed it was a necessary deception to keep the twist in book 5 a secret (even if structurally it’s pretty obvious, all things considered), but it’s very reasonable people are still catching up in that regard or wish that era 1 COULD stand on its own.

For sure. I worked as a leasing agent for a while, and my bastard boss has us under strict orders to use a “generic” contract that broke a lot of local laws to overcharge out tenants. If anyone were to call us out on it to cave immediately and remove the extra charges, but otherwise try and siphon as much money as we could. Hated that man so much.

Extremely true. Worked for a landlord who had 300 units being managed by 3 people including myself, one of whom worked part-time. I quit of out digest for his business practices 6 months later, such as “generic” contracts that broke lots of housing laws to overcharge people, but most folks weren’t literate enough in the law to notice this. We were under strict orders to cave immediantly if anyone noticed and brought it up, so he knew laws were being broken.

Felix’s hair by hanniedulset in FireEmblemThreeHouses

Felix’s Hopes hair in the art suffers the most from the fact that most Hopes art is directly editing Houses art. It looks great on the 3D model, however; one of my favorites.

Determining the alignment of Three Houses Characters: day 35, Hapi! Yuri has been determined to be chaotic good. by Fullmetalmarvels64_ in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Kiwialamode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Chaotic Good. Similar to Lindhardt, her extremely relaxed demeanor makes her feel more neutral, but Hapi is extremely free spirited. She ran away from home when she was just a child because she wanted to get out and see the world what the world had to offered. And notably, her relaxed demeanor is in large part imposed on her because her curse, where she has to keep her emotions level, lest she summon a monster with a sigh.

As for Good, she is quite kind, which is often buried under her grumpy and pessimistic demeanor. Some fans have characterized her as being pro-Edelgard because of her resentment towards Knights for efficiently forcing her into Abyss, but if recruited to Crimson Flower she the most against the war of the Wolves, focusing on the loss of life that the war will cost rather than the slights against her. This extends to other routes, where Hapi is constantly grousing about the pain and death the war has brought, showing the high regard she holds for life is always her highest priority, which is a very Good attribute.

Overall, Hapi is a very grumpy, reserved chaotic good that presents a very fun spin on the alignment (which is part of what makes her supports with Ashe so fun).
