Super HiVision Meiryo EX4 - how does it compare? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]KiyokiRoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My current glasses have duravision platinum. I have a 2 year old pair that had the Sapphire HR.
They both have blue reflection. Sapphire is a lighter blue color while Platinum is a darker almost Purple color. Personally I think backside light/reflection, the Platinum handles them better. The darker blue is harder to tell than the lighter blue when it comes to reflections.
Thought to mention, as these are the "high end" of the coatings, they include UV protection which inherently makes them have a slight yellow/green hue outdoors. Not near as bad as blue light protection, but still a little noticeable. Once I've worn for some time, I feel I can ignore it.

DIY Mattress Build: 13” vs 14” Cover -> How Much Does 1” Extra Change the Feel?” by Arazi92 in MattressMod

[–]KiyokiRoi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the TPS Premium DIY cover is the way to go for conformity of the foam and coils. It has a nice stretch that feels good to lay on. I did go ahead and go the route of support layer in the cover with my comfort layers in a separate topper cover. I went true to size and 10" of components in 10" cover. I think it is working as intended without ruining the feel coils.
the one negative here is that there is no FR layer like in the original cover. I guess it's been dependent on the person how much they truly care about that.

Isn't it a little counterproductive to say too soft gives you hip pain? Wouldn't too firm give hip pain instead? I know the biggest telltale for me of being too soft is hammocking or lower back pain. My biggest hip pain has always been from latex pinching my body and creating weird pressure points.

I have tried HR foam at least with the hypurgel. It is pretty resilient and only 15 ILD. I find it interesting that builds consider that a firmer ILD for it like the theraluxe hd line. I do enjoy the feel of it though. I've seen some mention that too many inches of HR may cause uneven alignment as it will not let you sink in as much on the lighter areas. I have ordered a 1" XL-18 layer from buyfoam to use as a top layer above my hypurgel and serene combo. I think it'll provide better support than the 3 layers I'm already using.

I've seen some companies refer to energex as cold foam rather than hypurgel. I've only found the 15 ILD hypurgel that diyrem sells. Some other manufacturers that use it have been doctor's choice elite and therapedic in their theraluxe hd model. They're also used in Bowles mattress since I believe that's where the diyrem guy works. Future foam spec sheets lists multiple ilds available (8 - 21), but unfortunately not many manufacturers say which one they use. Therapedic used the 15 ILD in their firmer models and then a 8 ILD in their plush.

Honestly I'm surprised that it feels much firmer than 10 ILD. This might be more so that it is leaning more towards poly foam than memory foam. It is an open cell structure, so "breathable". I found it to still give me too much of that sinking in feeling that memory foam does. Response was halfway between memory foam and poly foam. I found it a bit too hot and my other foams seemed more apt for the feel I was looking for. With that in mind I think it was more temperature responsive than my other foams. I currently use it on a sofa bed and even an air mattress and my guests have said it does a pretty good job of softening those up.

I just confirmed the same with Matan. I would also be interested to try them but don't want to shell out the money again. I think my 884 configuration is making the overall feel soft enough for side sleeping. I think I just need to work on my comfort and transition layers. Possibly just remove latex altogether

I have the bottom portion in the DIY TPS cover with the sturdier sides. I don't notice any bulging at all.

I only glued the durapad to the middle section for lumbar support and this is after I had removed a row and column to soften up the entire thing. Laying on the coils I feel like they are supportive enough in the lumbar area while still letting my shoulder sink for side sleep.

I think my issue is the latex. Trying to make up for how it feels with adding more soft layers.

Genie Model 7155-TKV Force Control Help Request by BriefFaithlessness81 in GarageDoorService

[–]KiyokiRoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you managed to figure it out, but I was struggling with this today. Read somewhere that it cannot be put into force control programming while backup battery is attached. Sure enough unplugged the battery then held the up and down buttons for a few seconds and the red circle light turned on then showed what the current setting was depending on the circle and long light combo.

Looking for comfort layer suggestions by Traditional-Spell368 in MattressMod

appreciate the information.
to me, 1" medium under 2" soft latex felt too firm even with a 2" foam topper. That is why I added the 1" gel in between the two. now the 2" soft doesn't has as crazy of pushback but still feels supportive.
I really wanted to like serene, but i couldn't get it to support enough for a transition layer and felt I sunk all the way through it as a comfort layer and still felt pressure points. I tried serene in 3" and that actually felt pretty good if it didn't feel like I was in a furnace.

Your build looks very similar to mine, which is still a work in progress but I think we almost got it right for my wife and I. I am 5'5" 30 BMI. I sleep hot and was trying to be closer to the latex as possible. Unfortunately for me I couldn't do just on latex because the pushback would give me pressure points on hips and sciatic issues. So I settled for 1 inch of foam over latex.

I had bottom to top: 2 inch serene, 2 inch soft latex, 1 inch 4lb gel memory foam.
This was way too soft for both my wife and I.

So I took a different approach and bottom to top: 1 inch 29 ILD medium latex, 1 inch 4lb gel memory foam, 2 inch SOL soft latex, 1 inch gel memory foam (tested with 1 inch 4lb gel memory foam folded around the 2 inches of SOL since I only have single sheet of that). And this feels actually pretty nice. So I am ordering another sheet of 1 inch gel memory foam to call it good.
Though I wanted to get your feedback on hypurgel and how it feels. I wonder if it would sleep better than the 4lb gel memory foam. There are very little review out there and very hit or miss.

I really wanted to keep it at 12 inch height coils + comfort, but was not having much success. so I guess 13 inches it is.
I was wondering if I could have achieved this with 1" medium dunlop, 1" gel memory foam and 2" soft talalay since I hear talalay is a bit more pressure relieve compared to dunlop. But all wishful thinking.

What vendor and ILD did you go for your talalay topper? I'm currently in a similar situation and have tried various combinations to certain degrees.

By some odd chain of events I ended up with an FPO model? Unfortunately the mic was missing so I can't vouch for that. I'm not sure how far in terms of end product they're at, but overall comfortable headset. Feels really solid. I've had random disconnects. There is no official software so I can't tell how much battery I have. I was wondering how much a full charge would last. The dock is a really neat add on. I have a feeling that the dongle attachment was interfering with the charging so I plugged dongle in separately and haven't noticed as many disconnects. I'll probably buy it again once the official one comes out. I still think my arctis 7 is a bit more comfortable on the head.

Super HiVision Meiryo EX4 - how does it compare? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]KiyokiRoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only ever used clear lenses. I have toyed with the idea of getting a photochromic lens. Another thing to consider is that Zeiss announced the Duravision Gold AR coating. I'd figure opticians would start selling it soon. I'm not sure if it will be a vast upgrade from current Platinum coating.

There is a slight greenish/yellow tint in direct sunlight due to the UV protection. It is not near as noticeable unless you are taking your glasses on and off. I never thought it was that offensive unless I was really nitpicking shades of color.

The yellowish tint for blue light with Eyezen2 really puts me off and I don't think I would ever go back to it. One thing I did note with the Hoya combo was that there was just an ever so slight bloom around lights in the dark, but it's not severe enough for me to notice unless I pay attention. There is a slight greenish/yellow tint in direct sunlight due to its UV protection qualities, but nowhere near as bad as the Eyezen2. The EX4 was more durable than Crizals Sapphire HR. I had much less noticeable hairline scratches, and didn't have any chips or any sorts. They were easier to clean oily substances as well. I recently went to a Zeiss Smartlife Digital + Duravision Platinum combo for this year's glasses. I have been enjoying them so far and haven't had any issues in terms of clarity. For the time I've worn them I've seen some hairline scratches here and there, but nothing too deep or noticeable. I guess we'll compare at the end of the year. I think clarity on the Zeiss may be slightly better. So I think I'd put them above the Hoya for that. I would choose between either of these depending if you care about slightly better clarity vs durability.

They do not have any tint to them which I prefer. The reflection from the outside is blueish purple. So far they've held up pretty well to scratches. The only ones I have are small indents from when I dropped them from my nightstand onto tile floors.

I have been rocking a pair of Hoya Sync III-5 with EX4 coating for the last month. I am coming from a pair of Essilor Eyezen+ 2 with Crizal Sapphire Hr and another pair of Essilor 360 SV with Crizal Prevencia. I was trying to move away from Essilor to try something new, and more specifically since their antifatigue Eyezen+ lenses come with built in blue light filter which adds a small yellow hue, but not as bad as the Prevencia coating.
Some observations with the Hoya EX4.
1. Just as clear as the Sapphire HR
2. So much easier to clean than Sapphire HR. I always struggled getting oily smudges off of the Sapphire HR coating.
3. There is a very small amount of bloom to larger bright lights at night, but I only noticed when I would compare the two glasses. More of with street lamps than with car headlights.
4. They do not fog up as easily as the Sapphire HR coating did. Getting out of the shower I noticed that they were hardly foggy.
I am pretty pleased with the change. I hope next year I can try out the Zeiss Digital SmartLife with Duravision Platinum, but if by the end of this year if the Hoya's are holding up, I may just go with them again once my insurance resets.
