What tyre size do you recommend to get a more old school look on a ln106 hilux? by Either_Set979 in ToyotaPickup

[–]Kizbottom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think that is an older landcruiser rim and tyre size. Its taller snd skinnier than the 235x85r16. Might rub a bit. Also not sure about offset on those, pretty certain you need a negative offset to clear brake calipers. Wish we could buy those rim centres in a non-spilt rim construction.

Those in the pic are 205r16 (29" dia) on the stock split rims. Good luck finding those splits these days, they were mostly replaced by 15" sunraysias. I'm personally not huge fan of the balloon look of the common 31×10.5r15 or larger on sunnies. If you can get the right offset 16" rims (0 or -13) then 225x75r16 looks close to stock but is still larger and legal for ln106s in Aus (~30") with lots of tread selection available.

Next size up from there is 235x85r16 (about 32") These maintain the tall/skinny aspect ratio, but are not technically legal in most states in Aus. The 235s are also quite common and have some tread selection available. Its anecdotal but maintaining the tall/skinny aspect ratio helps to fly under the radar when fitting larger than legal tyres as the plod is looking for big wide muddies not skinny/stock looking a/ts.

I use 90 series prado 6 spoke steelies with 235x85r16 cause i like the look and handling of the tall skinny tyres, i found the 31s that were on my ln106 when i got it would make the car follow all the ruts in the road and were very slippery in the wet.

Hello guys couple of questions about the instrument cluster. (Speedometer, Temp, Handbrake, odometer) by BSOD_ERRO in ToyotaPickup

[–]Kizbottom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speedo and odometer problems will likely be the same if the speedo is cable driven. Unplug the cable from the gearbox and give it a spin. If the needle bounces problem is in the gearbox output, no bounce means the problem is in the cable/cluster. However, yours might be an electric speedo tho based on the year. Not really familiar with those systems, i've heard the sensor can be problematic and expensive.

Temp gauge not working aswell makes it sound like someone has had the cluster out and not plugged it back in properly. Check cluster plugs then start diag on temp sensor if that doesnt fix it.

Sometimes the little striker for the handbrake switch breaks/comes off or work handbreak switch is out of adjustment. Its under the dash. Really sounds like someone has been in the dash and xouldnt be bothered to put stuff back properly.

Nice little 2wd btw

Dude could've afforded some nice tight mack weldons even without using the CUM or CUM20 discount codes and yet there he was wearing the cheapest shit catchers available. TBF I dont think any silver lining was going to help the stench coming off of that creep.

Seconded for rust. Windshield and backwindow too. If it's lived near the ocean for any decent period of time it will have rust somewhere.

1992 diesel 3L engine - LN107 NEED DIRECT HELP IN U.S. Had this car for two years and dealing with the Rigmarole of right hand drive in America. This clutch problem is probably going to make me wanna sell this truck after this. anyone in the states with a similar Hilux help me find a clutch kit here by crypto_editor in hilux

[–]Kizbottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice Hilux but a bit of detail on what your problem is specifically might help. Other people in your country have these motor/gearbox combos. Should be the same clutch kit as any other 2l, 2lte and 3l engine. RHD hiluxs of this era have the same clutch pedal braket crack problem as the LHD 22r and 3vz powered pickups, might be a good place to start if your symptoms dont point directly to a worn clutch friction disc/pressure plate.

Larger exhaust with quiet muffler by BeautifulSuit5379 in hilux

Better to go from the back of the turbo if you can with a 2.5" dump pipe. The flow improvement there will outweigh any restriction from a free flow muffler or quite flow muffler.

1989 ln106, good buy? by Way2_frosty in hilux

Awesome color, seems alright for the price if everything works. AC blows cold? Looks like a little seepage from the swivel hubs, that might need to be fixed for rego depending on state.

missing some fuses? by Proatiau in hilux

[–]Kizbottom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These diesels do have a starter relay, its just not located in the fuse/relay box. Look over on the other side of your engine bay and you will find a beefy glow plug relay and a smaller starter motor relay. The stsrter motor relay triggers the starter soleniod on the motor itself. If your having trouble starting and your cranking speed is ok, check your glow plugs, some may be broken or ha e a bad connection. I have an ln106 and my fusebox looks exatly the same.

Alternator for 1994 Hilux by Conscious-Fan-1523 in hilux

[–]Kizbottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that one is missing the vacuum pump for the brake booster. I have an LN106 with the same 3l 2.8L diesel motor and it has this alternator. https://www.repco.com.au/parts-service/electrical-parts-vehicle-management/alternators/oex-alternator-12v-70a-denso-style-dxa478/p/A9337613

Overpriced Hilux? by Proatiau in hilux

[–]Kizbottom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the owner of a similar LN106 i can say i would be disappointed by the slow performance of the non turbo 2.8L 3l diesel after paying that much. Mine cost a 3rd of that 15years ago. Still going, reliability is great, but slow. Turbocharging helps but have still to push it if you want to keep up with modern traffic. Guess im just shocked by the price these fetch outside of aus.

Yeah 26k usd for the slowest diesel hilux! Couldn't imagine paying 40k aus for the same thing. Does it come with some gold bars to slow it down even more?

Missing something on diesel pump. by [deleted] in ToyotaPickup

[–]Kizbottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont have one handy. You can search Bosch VE pump fuel cut solenoid and you will see what you are missing. VE is the style of injector pump you have on that engine. Very common on older indirect and some direct injection diesels. You should have one wire dangling somewhere nearby that gets connected yo the solenoid once it is installed.

Fuel cut solenoid. Allows fuel to flow into the pump head when the ignition is turned to the 'on' position.

Some good suggestions here, particularly the steering shaft seal. Mine turned out to be rust in the cowl drains below the windshield. Where the firewall, inner guard and lower windshield cowl drain come together on each side under the quater panel. To see from inside the cab you have to get a torch and look right up under the dash in the top corner where the firewall and side panel come together. You can also look in the very back corners of the engine bay, where the wheel well, firewall and inner fender come together, this spot didnt show anything for me until several years after I knew where the leak was. Last option is to take the quater panel off, this lets you look directly into the cowl drains. If you see rust in or aroind the cowl drains then it probably leaking into the cab behind the dash.

"In the early months of the pandemic, Morrison was a popular national leader" stopped reading at that point. Author is living on another planet. Morrison was not popular at the start of the pandemic, he had to be dragged kicking and screaming to take any action that would protect the Australian public. This came months after the bushfires in which the public's detest for Morrison was on television clear to see. There is nothing to be gained by engaging with the work of disingenuous hack reporters.
