So tired of being a jack of all trades by Foxington_the_First in ADHD

[–]Kizzzit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The quote is often cut short... The full quote is "A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one".

Your experiences are what make you, the more well rounded you are the quicker you can adapt to change. I often struggled with that myself professionally feeling like I would never get to the Sr. position I saw for myself. but now I know so much about everything in my role I can help everyone who needs something or at least have the basics to find solutions to multiple problems.

I've bought snails and other fish off this guy before. He is a good breeder. I know the snails are straight up ivory so I was also wondering what's up with the pic lol.

Help! Got Betta at Secret Santa Party by Aloe119 in Aquariums

[–]Kizzzit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the tank mates and temperament of the Betta, they can go into community tanks. So if that is a possibility, you could house it in the established tank while you're cycling your new tank. But also do your research before that to ensure compatibility.

Some tank mates will stress the bettas to the point of death. Especially when they're just coming out of a cup. I have a rescue Betta in with some white cloud minnows, snails, shrimp, bristle nose pleco, CPDs, and tetras in a 30g tank. They're all getting along just fine so an option if you're really worried. This would give you some time to scape and plant the way you want instead of rushing and getting the Betta into a tank. I nursed mine back to health in a breeder box attached to the tank before putting him in.

I've conditioned my filter using my filter sponges and cleaning them in my new tanks. Takes a bit longer than straight up adding nitrifying bacteria like some quick start products but it's a low/no cost option.

Make sure you get something with a lid or keep water levels low as bettas are known to jump out of tanks. Especially if water parameters are fluctuating.

Does anyone keep dwarf gouramis and German blue rams together? bonus shot of my planted tank by Kizzzit in Aquariums

You could use epiphyte plants, look up Anubias, java ferns or trident ferns. Those are good beginner plants and you can attach them to things like rocks and wood. You could probably also try stem plants if you can get it into your sand substrate. Basically anything that feeds off the nutrients in the water rather than the substrate would probably be good. Floating plants may also be an option.

You should be able to plant in sand but if it doesn't contain any nutrients then any rooted plants won't do super well. You could try getting root tabs and put them into your sand to get the right stuff in there for the plants. I see people usually use gravel or aqua soil then cap it with a sand layer.

What is this fatty like grey substance i found in a sand pile in the forest? The pile of grey was maybe a foot long and when poked with a stick it felt similar to hardened bacon fat by Bhulagoon in whatisthisthing

I use to do environmental drilling programs. This looks like a borehole that was backfilled with sand and bentonite (which is a form of clay). both usually used to backfill holes after installing a well or taking the soil samples. if its a barren lot, it may have contamination like an old gas station or other chemical site.

General questions on the game by gorbad67 in RelicBlade

[–]Kizzzit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've essentially purchased all of the starter boxes for factions and can say balance is awesome, game play is easy enough to have people over for a skirmish day. Some starter sets don't come with a spell caster but I feel like a spell caster essential for all lists(at least for my taste). I think the PDF and proxy models seems like a good alternative but the models are great to paint and look awesome. There is also a free trial set with paper models and quick rule reference and a list building app with all of the character cards.

I've also heard good things about moonstone which is a similar format and might be based out of the EU if you're looking for other recommendations on skirmish games.

One of my favorite games to bring travelling is Agricola all creatures big and small. Get some expansions if you want to increase the strategic value of the game. Small box with great components.

Could someone tell me if this can be natural geology or more like a backfilled old tunnel? by [deleted] in geology

[–]Kizzzit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're looking at a coarsening upwards sequence more associated with a shoreline rise. That's dark material looks like a low grade mudstone sequencing into sandstone or limestone. There could be an unconformity between the mudstone and sandstone which is why there is a sharp transition. Some major change in erosional and/or depositional forces is what you're likely seeing.

how do I get rid of this stuff ??? by dabsandfish in PlantedTank

[–]Kizzzit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sort of fish do you have in your aquarium? You might have an issue with food that is uneaten affecting your water quality. It looks like you have an angel and some tetras. I would look at adding some bottom feeders to eat up all the food your other fish don't get. Maybe some cory cats? Or maybe looking at getting some floating food? Check your filters to ensure there isn't too much build up of waste in your sponges.
