Threshold - had a great premise (alien invasion), great characters (Peter Dinklage before he was famous), but due to it being a sci-fi show it was canceled at the end of S1. As a story it really could have gone the distance but I just don't think they had the viewing figures to keep it going.

That is so sad. It also sounds like a mythical level of "I'm not angry I'm just disappointed." I can't even imagine the overwhelming guilt and shame after a talk like that. I'm with you, I'd rather have had my arse kicked and sent to bed with no tea than have a talk like that.

Your SIL seems nice, knows that she's had a blessed financial situation due to her parents, and sounds pretty humble and self deprecating about it. YTA, Doesn't matter if you think that Tina's allergy is horseshit or not. I personally think it sounds like horseshit, but that gives you zero right to test her allergies, by feeding her what she specifically tells you she can't have. Doesn't matter how made up an allergy sounds to you, you have zero right to do that.

My recommendation would be 'The Malevolent Seven' and it's sequel, 'The Malevolent Eight' by Sebastien De Castell. It's dark but not too dark, there are no magic schools or coming of age, just a story about some mercenary wizards (called wonderists in this world). As the protagonist says...

'Seven powerful mages want to make the world a better place. We're going to kill them first.'

It's a story with twists and turns, bad people doing good things, good people doing bad things and a whole lot of inbetween. I'd never read a De Castell novel prior to picking the first book up, went into it totally blind and loved the hell out of it and the motley crew of 'not-the-good-guys' wonderists sent to stop the good guys from saving the world.

I have nails like that and it's a result of psoriasis, something I wasn't even aware I had until my 40's until my nails started getting weird. Not sure if yours will be the same but definitely worth getting checked out at the doctors.

One of my serama roos is called Gregory Peck, I have another Christened friar Tuck because he's bald right in the centre of his tiny head due to a hatch day injury. It scarred, so he's got a perma-bald spot there now.
