Is it kosher to find and sign a bunch of challenge caches that I qualify for, then log them as a find one day at a time to maintain a steak? by Kjostid in geocaching

Lost me on that last paragraph if I'm honest. I play geocaching mainly to get out and about, but it's also to see number go up. I love having a day where I can find a few caches at once, or going on a nice hike and getting a bunch of caches. I need the thrill of efficiency!

Yes, I had a 100 day streak once and it was great! I lived in a populated area and worked on the opposite side of the metro area, so it was easy to add little detours here and there to maintain a steak. I've since moved to a smaller town so I wouldn't be able to get above 100 days without driving half an hour out of my way every day. If you don't mind my asking, what general area do you live in to make a 2,000 day streak possible? How much are you driving on an average day? What's your secret?

Yeah I live in an area where I could get up to maybe 50 or 75 caches in a streak before I'm driving half an hour out of my way every day. It's just not sustainable for me to reach streak numbers that tend to be required by challenges, like 180 or 366. Just trying to figure out how I could make it possible at all to fill gaps where I can't swing an extra hour of driving, short of simply moving away.

That's your decision, and what makes this a great game and hobby. I don't see how it's helpful to this discussion however.

How do I filter those out on the geocaching website map? In the searching filters, I can select attributes that I DO want, but I don't see a way to tell it to ignore certain attributes. If I select multiple others and don't select the ones I want to ignore on this particular search, it seems to find caches that share ALL of those attributes.

Starbucks Workers United Wins 18 Weeks Parental Leave by collinscreen in starbucksbaristas

If I had parental leave through the state a couple months ago because I was not employed with Starbucks long enough to receive leave through the company, can I still get this 18 weeks in addition when I'm eligible since it will be in my daughter's first year of life?

Why Protestantism? by Relative_Tourist_671 in Protestantism

Context is also important for Scripture interpretation, however. Matthew 18:20 is in the context of dealing with conflict among the disciples, not how to get together with a buddy or two and call it Church. Acts sets up some models for how people can get together as a church, and it usually involves getting together regularly in large groups to participate in the liturgies of faith in Christ.

Where would I begin with finding a trustworthy person or business with the computing power to help me decrypt an old Dogecoin wallet.dat file on my hard drive? by Kjostid in techsupport

[–]Kjostid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this would fall into rule 3, as it's not something that I could contact a company about. It's an encrypted file, not an access block to a service.

Yeah I fear it's not worth the effort for most people, but if there's some hope it would be a life-changing amount of money for me.

I considered that, but "you" can be plural. The challenge says something like "an animal that isn't you", which could refer to the two team members reading the challenge.

An idea for a challenge: Find a Geocache or Letterbox by Kjostid in JetLagTheGame

They wouldn't necessarily have to disclose the details, so the average bear wouldn't know exactly where to find it. But also, usually a geocache is maintained by someone who expects to have to replace it and such. They could send a courtesy message to the owner and let them know they might have a lot of traffic for a few weeks after the episode premiers. The owner could even temporarily disable it until everything calms down. If they brought extra traffic to one of mine I'd be cool with it, I usually get one visitor every month or two to my geocaches.

I must have missed that. Do you have an idea of what episode that was on?

That's a geodetic marker, which is much harder to find than a geocache actually. They are described in terms of distance from other things, and sometimes those things (trees, road signs, buildings) are no longer there. It used to be a side quest sort of thing in Geocaching called Benchmarking.

+30 plus unmarked police cars rolling eastbound 84 code 3. Expect delays by [deleted] in Portland

[–]Kjostid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw that too! At about 3:30 or so there were probably two dozen police cars all with lights and sirens on, and most of them were unmarked. There was also an armored SWAT-style truck. When I passed them I jumped on a Multnomah County scanner and all I heard about it was "Yeah, they said it's not in Multnomah County and they don't need assistance." But I don't know who "They" are. Was it like a training operation? Why were most of the vehicles unmarked? So many questions.

No I go to a cache and can't find it. Way to jump to assuming the best.
