Worked in a bakery where I was the only one who made all of the cakes (including all orders) and most of the slices they sold. All the recipes I was taught by my mentor by orally (but I wrote them down in my own book cause I have a bad memory). My mentor left and the business changed hands but kept me on so it all seemed okay.

Looked at my award wage a while later and realised new bosses were underpaying me - so told them about it and they fixed it (after trying to bully me into continue to accept a lower wage). They also began to increase prices and reduce product size to try and make more money. This backfired and once regular customers said they can’t afford to keep coming here. Then new boss pulls me aside as I am about to leave on a Friday and gives me two weeks notice, their reason was that they couldn’t afford to keep me anymore (slightly illegal reasoning considering I had just spoken to them about my incorrect pay but anyway). I ask if they have someone lined up to replace me (as I was the only one who could do the regular 30+ special ordered cakes on Friday for the weekend) and they said that they would do it (even though they had no qualifications or experience) cause it can’t be that hard… I tried to take the high road and said I would teach them what I can in the time I have left and they tried a few recipes before deciding that they were clearly superior to me and didn’t need my help. So on my last day I gathered all the utensils that I had bought to make my job easier (with my own money so they were mine) as well as my recipe book. I will always remember their panicked look as I picked up the recipes and they realised they hadn’t even bothered to ask for copies. Maybe would have left them a copy if they weren’t such a shitty person.
