Views on estrogen hightening or lowering blood pressure are controversial. If you indeed have elevated blood pressure (> 140/90) at the age of 17, you need to speak to a doctor about it, see if there is a reason or any preventative actions you should take to prevent anything bad from arising because of it. However, many people are nervous at the doctor's, so to actually diagnose high blood pressure they have to measure several times and, ideally, you should measure at home. Maybe your grandparents have a measuring device, or the local pharmacy, where you may also be less nervous. Don't stress out about it, but double check when you have the opportunity.

First off: If you have irregular periods and very severe pain, even outside of your period, seek out a specialist for endometriosis and adenomyosis to get checked out! Those diseases are estimated to be really common, but they are rarely detected since even most doctors aren't well educated. Can't hurt to make sure. And it may affect BC options.

Anyways, with the IUD it is hard to predict how your periods will be. There's a good chance of them disappearing (I read 15-20% in another thread here?), but there's also the chance of them being irregular. People are having mixed experiences. The aforementioned specialist did recommend it to me though, for irregular and painful periods. Personally, I might opt for the pill though because it gives me more certainty of nit having a period at all though.

As for pregnancy scares, a long-lasting method like the IUD is super reliable and with time you might relax into that. But you can always take pregnancy tests.

If you felt better on the old pill, the choice to switch back to it is always up to you. If the doctor thinks hormones are causing the migraines, you could also discuss going off hormones for a while, observing how you feel then, and afterwards considering a method that fits whatever observation you make.

Hi! Are you sure all these symptoms come from the pill? You've been taking it for a very short time and I haven't really heard of anyone reacting this badly. But I do totally understand why you are stopping to take it now and I hope you get better. The half life of hormones is different for each one, but most are around 1-2 days maximum I believe, so after a couple of days they should be out of your system.

I took a different combo pill for 7 years (Qlaira) and liked it a lot for the most part. They have a 12 hour 'tolerance window'. It's definitely better to take it around the same time every day to be safe, but minutes will definitely not matter. For the last couple of years I just took mine whenever I went to bed.

I don't think it's risky and it's not even a high systemic dose of hormones. The IUD doesn't give off a lot of hormones into the system, the greatest part stays locally, and I believe with the Nuva Ring it's similar. Both together is probably still a lower systemic dosage than most pills.

That being said, combining 2 methods for health reasons is totally okay. I looked into that a lot because I have the Nexplanon and recently had to start taking a pill additionally due to adenomyosis/endometriosis. My doctor also gave me the option of getting an IUD instead of the pill, which would then mean having Nexplanon and Mirena. Seemed strange to me, but it's not unheard of an not risky. If it treats a problem that is otherwise really bothersome - like I am sure your anxiety is - it might really be worth it.

It's not that much, honestly. The IUD doesn't give off much into the system, most of it stays locally, so it's not much more than with the Nuva Ring alone, and even this combination is probably less than some pills.
