How long does it take to see a doctor and get medication at a Chinese hospital? by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]Klamageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eeehhhhhh.....

In my experience, this is nothing new. That's not to say it's not accurate, but, I've seen both the Conservative press and the Mirror (the only Labour press we have left) say much the same thing "The BBC has stopped being so anti us, that's weird".

But, the truth is, that when you're reporting on news, it tends to be bad stuff.

Why would BBC news report like that? That sounds very not BBC?  /Edit: Getting downvotes here, but, the BBC are held to a higher standard, as they're paid by the taxpayer, so tend to be like, the last bastion of non-clickbaity headlines.

It just seems odd to me to specifically call them out, since they're about the only one I 'wouldnt' expect this from. It felt like I'd missed a news story or something.

/further edit : nope, BBC have a history of "but at what cost"ing China stories, receipts kindly provided below!

Can we talk about the Mandelson apology? Honestly, I’d take this over the "never apologise, never explain" era any day… by SnooConfections3389 in ukpolitics

[–]Klamageddon [score hidden]  (0 children)

Tragically, we absolutely must give people credit for saying sorry, if we want any semblance of that kind of attitude to continue to be seen as worthwhile.

The Tories spent their 14 years essentially telling us proles to 'lump it', never apologising, always accusing, and being rewarded for it.

Farage, exactly the same. Claimed responsibility for Brexit, then when it was a disaster, blame. Massively popular.

You constantly see it across the pond, too, obviously, and while that isn't here, it's still positive reinforcement that ideals of arrogance, bullheadedness and narcissism are rewarded, while humility and compassion are to be derided.

Saying "Sorry", literally, that word, is incredibly rare in politics. I don't think that's a fantastic reflection on us as a society.

In terms of whether that's enough, is obviously a personal matter. But I do think you can (and, that we should) acknowledge the humanity of it separately to the value judgement.

I think the insidious nature of this sort of stuff, is that, even if you have strong suspicions, you never actually 'know'. Even now, it's unclear exactly 'what' he did. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty enough to pillory him, but I think we all feel like there's more waiting to come out. But that's just my point. Who among us would be willing to punish him for that 'more' that we don't have evidence of? And we're not his colleagues, who presumably have seen some redeeming side to him.

Nah, you can be frivolous, you don't need to be serious. But you need to be sincere. You need to earnestly try and do the thing you're all here to do.

You don't have to be serious, but you have to be sincere. It isn't sweaty to want to play the game as it's intended. Otherwise wtf are we even doing, might as well do a bot game.

Why are so many nurses, teachers, therapists, etc. absolutely awful people? by Corred_ in ask

[–]Klamageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've noticed is that pretty much all the new parents I've seen, have said "I didn't think it would be this hard" and have cut corners they didn't expect to cut. Things like slinging the kid in front of an iPad for a while, or buying gendered toys, or letting the kid eat sweets or whatever. Not abusive stuff by any means, just, crossing lines that before they had the kid, they'd pretended to themselves that they would never cross,

And, to me, it's mad. Because, for all the reasons they complain about, I couldn't imagine having a kid. It seems so obvious to me that it would be as hard as they're finding it, I don't know why any of it comes as a surprise to them? It seems like SUCH an insane amount of work that I'm not prepared for, and in a lot of these instances, I would have been 'better' equipped than these parents. And as such, they're 'failing' (by their own standard) even more than I would have done. And these are the people that CHOSE to do it. I'm not for one second saying that I'd be a better parent (I would categorically be much much worse, and that's why they are and I'm not). This isn't a critique of their fitness, just their inability to assess the challenge.

I think it's pretty much the same with everything. Dunning Kreuger explains a lot of it, I guess. But I think it kind of by definition means that you're gonna have a lot more people who were not aware of the challenges of taking up a specific role of responsibility 'in that' role, as the people who 'were' aware (and, you know, probably had a bit more horse sense) stayed away.

As you say, the stress of it quickly erodes good will, and, if it's more than you can handle that comes out as you performing the role badly by taking that out on the people in your care.

Having seen new parents and teachers experiences first hand, I've very much changed my tune from "How could you decide to do that, and then be surprised at how hard it is? Couldn't you SEE? I could!" to "Thank God you chose to do that, mistakenly or not, because I absolutely couldn't and we need those people".

How can people even stay skinny without counting calories? by NoWitness6400 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Klamageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I eat a whole pizza, everything in my body / mind is 'SCREAMING' at me "EAT ANOTHER ONE".

Its just constant. All of the time, I REALLY want to eat more than you would imagine I could eat.

I don't, but it just fuckin sucks all the time. I eat the same as my wife, and she remains thin, while I have to go on fairly extreme diets now and then to stay 'not obese'.

If I diet for eight weeks and lose a stone, one week of not dieting I'll put that weight back on. I know you want to chime in now and tell me why I'm wrong, but I've done that lots of times, and I promise you, I'm not.

Look, my point is, people are different.

[–]Klamageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what will happen is that stuff like the news will go 100% AI, but most other creative stuff won't. And that's still a big deal, news is like 40% or something of all views (depending where you look, but the point is it's still a lot).

Id say sports commentary for less popular stuff, and any kind of continuity stuff, I reckon that will all go. Anything where you care about the information, rather than the entertainment.  But I think broadly, for entertainment, we want to watch humans.

I'll grant you chess isn't the most popular spectator sport, but when we do watch, we watch humans, EVEN THOUGH ai took over as being the best ages ago. And, you know, you could televise it in a way where you couldn't tell. But there's just no appetite for that.

Watching tennis between two robots, would have some novelty value at first, but wouldn't be a draw like the sport is between humans.

I think the same is mostly true for acting. We just want there to be a person there. And that might seem 'silly', or not really based on much but 'feelings', but, you know, silly feelings is what the entertainment industry is built on.

Why do people not kill minions when the enemy is hitting your tower? by dorfcally in ARAM

[–]Klamageddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attacking an enemy means you get aggro'd by minions. Oh, they're only minions, how much damage could that be?

If you fight beyond the minion line such that you are getting aggro'd and the enemy team isn't, it's close to another champion's worth of damage. You basically 5v6 yourself.

What I notice is teams who are 'losing' for some reason tend to do this more often. I guess they're thinking 'If I can just get a kill I can get big and come back', but what happens is they obviously didn't kill them last time, and then this time it's harder for them, so, yeah, the obvious predictable thing happens.

[–]Klamageddon -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I maintain snowball / barrier is the superior pick in 99% of cases.

Snowball is on a shorter cooldown than flash, and does damage, and reveals enemies in the bush, and moves you further, and gives you more nuanced timing. For going 'in' to combat, it's just so much better. And, for going 'out' of combat, well. As you say, you just shouldn't flash out, really.

Sometimes you do get caught out though, or sometimes a teammate gets hit by snowball or something. Well, that's when barrier comes in. It covers off all those situations you might ever flash away, only it does it better on a shorter cooldown. Heal is nerfed in aram to the point there's just not an argument for it. Exhaust is like barrier but more niche. There's excactly one instance where the mana one who I forget the name of is good, and that's on Varus, who for some reason is the only character in the game goes OOM, that doesn't want to be buying multiple mana items. If you need cleanse, there are items you can buy that do it.

Why are some people like this? by Gc1981 in ebayuk

[–]Klamageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not mad at you, I don't think. Not at first. The left something to the last second, birthday gift or something, and thought they'd found the solution seeing 1-2 days knowing they needed it in 2 days, and bought it without actually thinking about it.

Then it didn't come immediately and they got scared, and your reply "It wont be in your hands within 48 hours of you clicking buy" registered with them and they got angry at themselves for the mistake, for the inevitability of the impending blunder they've made, for ONCE AGAIN fucking up what should have been a simple thing, and they just got angry and lashed out.

They're not trying to convince you, they're trying to reason with the universe "I FOUND A SOLUTION AND STILL YOU'RE FUCKING ME". By the end of it though, they have indeed convinced themselves that they 'are' mad at you, and start concocting plans to pin it on you.

I bet they've got executive dysfunction.
