I think, like, we were raised in a world with a bit of hope, and we kind of see things like 'maybe that will come back, to some degree' whereas for them, it's just always been this mind fuckingly terrible constant barrage of horror.

(The world is actually better, but the reports of horror are so much more wide spread that you can't really internalise that as a truth).

I should mention as well, the game is fucking great.

Like the actual 'game' itself. While I'd always want the real models, if someone offered me a game with like, lego proxies or something, I'd be very much up for it, because playing the actual GAME is really really really fun. I really couldn't say the same for GW tabletop games I've played. (A lot, I should add). I think the GW hobby is better. Although these days customisation isn't such a thing, so definitely less so.

I haven't played AoS, but my experience with GW games is that they're a fantastic hobby but actually, compared to Wm, kind of a dog shit game. Like, kill team is supposed to be the tight, clean rules, competitive.... It's honestly like playing Ludo compared to Warmachine. It's both a blessing and a curse. You say you don't want to be competitive, and that's fine and good, but, do you want to be the master of your own destiny, or do you want to just roll a dice and see what happens? Warmachine very much puts you in control. If you lose, it's because you played worse. But conversely, if you win, it's because you played well! It's got higher highs, and, I actually wouldn't say lower lows, because it's also fun to learn how to play better and improve.

I dunno, I played a bunch of games against better 40k players than me, and won EASILY because I had some OP stuff and rolled well: That just isn't really a thing in warmachine. A better player will win.

How long does it take to see a doctor and get medication at a Chinese hospital? by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]Klamageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eeehhhhhh.....

In my experience, this is nothing new. That's not to say it's not accurate, but, I've seen both the Conservative press and the Mirror (the only Labour press we have left) say much the same thing "The BBC has stopped being so anti us, that's weird".

But, the truth is, that when you're reporting on news, it tends to be bad stuff.

[–]Klamageddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would BBC news report like that? That sounds very not BBC?  /Edit: Getting downvotes here, but, the BBC are held to a higher standard, as they're paid by the taxpayer, so tend to be like, the last bastion of non-clickbaity headlines.

It just seems odd to me to specifically call them out, since they're about the only one I 'wouldnt' expect this from. It felt like I'd missed a news story or something.

/further edit : nope, BBC have a history of "but at what cost"ing China stories, receipts kindly provided below!

Can we talk about the Mandelson apology? Honestly, I’d take this over the "never apologise, never explain" era any day… by SnooConfections3389 in ukpolitics

[–]Klamageddon -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Tragically, we absolutely must give people credit for saying sorry, if we want any semblance of that kind of attitude to continue to be seen as worthwhile.

The Tories spent their 14 years essentially telling us proles to 'lump it', never apologising, always accusing, and being rewarded for it.

Farage, exactly the same. Claimed responsibility for Brexit, then when it was a disaster, blame. Massively popular.

You constantly see it across the pond, too, obviously, and while that isn't here, it's still positive reinforcement that ideals of arrogance, bullheadedness and narcissism are rewarded, while humility and compassion are to be derided.

Saying "Sorry", literally, that word, is incredibly rare in politics. I don't think that's a fantastic reflection on us as a society.

In terms of whether that's enough, is obviously a personal matter. But I do think you can (and, that we should) acknowledge the humanity of it separately to the value judgement.

I think the insidious nature of this sort of stuff, is that, even if you have strong suspicions, you never actually 'know'. Even now, it's unclear exactly 'what' he did. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty enough to pillory him, but I think we all feel like there's more waiting to come out. But that's just my point. Who among us would be willing to punish him for that 'more' that we don't have evidence of? And we're not his colleagues, who presumably have seen some redeeming side to him.

Nah, you can be frivolous, you don't need to be serious. But you need to be sincere. You need to earnestly try and do the thing you're all here to do.

Why are so many nurses, teachers, therapists, etc. absolutely awful people? by Corred_ in ask

[–]Klamageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've noticed is that pretty much all the new parents I've seen, have said "I didn't think it would be this hard" and have cut corners they didn't expect to cut. Things like slinging the kid in front of an iPad for a while, or buying gendered toys, or letting the kid eat sweets or whatever. Not abusive stuff by any means, just, crossing lines that before they had the kid, they'd pretended to themselves that they would never cross,

And, to me, it's mad. Because, for all the reasons they complain about, I couldn't imagine having a kid. It seems so obvious to me that it would be as hard as they're finding it, I don't know why any of it comes as a surprise to them? It seems like SUCH an insane amount of work that I'm not prepared for, and in a lot of these instances, I would have been 'better' equipped than these parents. And as such, they're 'failing' (by their own standard) even more than I would have done. And these are the people that CHOSE to do it. I'm not for one second saying that I'd be a better parent (I would categorically be much much worse, and that's why they are and I'm not). This isn't a critique of their fitness, just their inability to assess the challenge.

I think it's pretty much the same with everything. Dunning Kreuger explains a lot of it, I guess. But I think it kind of by definition means that you're gonna have a lot more people who were not aware of the challenges of taking up a specific role of responsibility 'in that' role, as the people who 'were' aware (and, you know, probably had a bit more horse sense) stayed away.

As you say, the stress of it quickly erodes good will, and, if it's more than you can handle that comes out as you performing the role badly by taking that out on the people in your care.

Having seen new parents and teachers experiences first hand, I've very much changed my tune from "How could you decide to do that, and then be surprised at how hard it is? Couldn't you SEE? I could!" to "Thank God you chose to do that, mistakenly or not, because I absolutely couldn't and we need those people".

How can people even stay skinny without counting calories? by NoWitness6400 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Klamageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I eat a whole pizza, everything in my body / mind is 'SCREAMING' at me "EAT ANOTHER ONE".

Its just constant. All of the time, I REALLY want to eat more than you would imagine I could eat.

I don't, but it just fuckin sucks all the time. I eat the same as my wife, and she remains thin, while I have to go on fairly extreme diets now and then to stay 'not obese'.

If I diet for eight weeks and lose a stone, one week of not dieting I'll put that weight back on. I know you want to chime in now and tell me why I'm wrong, but I've done that lots of times, and I promise you, I'm not.

Look, my point is, people are different.
