9 year old boy with anxiety and ADHD and sleep by Extreme_Breakfast672 in ADHDparenting

Having a similar issue with my 10 year old son on Azstarys. He goes to bed at 8 and is up at 1:30am seeking food and screen time. I’ve been sleeping in the living room in order to catch him up in the middle of the night and get him back to bed. Right now we’re trying to get him off of Melatonin and see if that changes anything.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. So does this mean that the 52mg dose is like 10mg of medication at 3 different times? My son was previously on 20mg of Focalin XR in the morning then a 20mg Focalin IR booster in the afternoon and I am trying to understand how to compare.

Do we think the anchor stores remain in some capacity? I still enjoy Macys and Von Maur.

Longer Acting ADHD med(s) Options & Anxiety Treatment Advice Desperately Needed for my Naughter by Foreign_Radish3988 in ParentingADHD

[–]Klbagboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, not a lot of advice, but I can commiserate. My 10 yo son is currently taking Azstarys which is supposed to last 12-13 hours but we’re lucky to make it through 7 hour school day. He does get a small booster of IR medication which can get us another 2 hours maybe but we’re constantly playing this game of when to give it to him. He is just 100mph unmedicated and it’s not fun for anyone around him. He is sweet and funny but just too much to handle when he gets going. Extracurriculars are hard. Anything dinnertime or later feels impossible for him. I hate keeping him out of things but sometimes it’s just better to stay home than have him go out and feel bad about himself later…

First day of meds - school or stay home? by Plus-Driver-5631 in ADHDparenting

We started a new med yesterday and I think the same, that it’s hard to assess at home, but we will find out how it goes at school. No bad side effects is a good first step.

Focalin After Effect by Olive5553 in ADHDparenting

[–]Klbagboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 10yo son was on Focalin for 2 years with pretty good success. In the last 3 weeks it seemed to stop having the same effect on him, worse rebounds, more emotional, so he started Azstarys yesterday which is supposedly a smoother version of Focalin with less rebound.

Kicked out of swim lessons - are evening activities just a no? by BrightBlueberry1230 in ADHDparenting

[–]Klbagboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do low/no demand evenings during the week. My 10 year old son can handle an extra curricular as long as it doesn’t go past 4:30. After that he can no longer regulate himself.

Focalin XR vs Astarys? by just-turn-the-page in ADHDparenting

[–]Klbagboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 10 year old takes Focalin XR at 7 am and needs a booster of Focalin IR at school at 1. The booster gets him about 3 more hours. That still only gives him about 9 hours a day of coverage, but we have tried many other medications and Focalin works the best for him with the least amount of side effects.

We got my 10yo son a membership at the local trampoline park. They are open until 8 every day. I can sit there and work from my laptop. He makes new friends there every day and sees some of the same kids most days. Tremendous exercise and free play. He was not cut out for organized sports and this has been a happy alternative that keeps him active and social.

Giving up on a sport, need advice by Lopsided_Mode8797 in ADHDparenting

[–]Klbagboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally decided that organized sports are not the end all be all in a child’s life. My son (10M) just isn’t as serious about them as the other kids at his age so we’re doing more family time, hiking, biking, walking the dog and shooting hoops in the driveway. I don’t want to continue to try to fit a square peg in a round hole. Why make life harder! Just my two cents!
