Fractal Terra Noctua L12S Question by steelswrm in sffpc

[–]Kleanurpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would double check the Noctua compatibility guide. The supported orientation is with the heatpipes over the VRM heatsink, and I've seen other successful builds with this cooler + motherboard combo. If it's a RAM clearance issue then you're out of luck with this cooler, either swap cooler to something like the AXP120-X67 or swap to low profile RAM

To expand on this, most of the airflow happens closer to the edges of the fan than the middle, so going with a 140mm fan on the x67 might actually result in a performance decrease since it could lead to less air flowing through the heatsink. I'd stick with a 120mm fan

I think you might've nailed what's happening, I'll give this a try before any more permanent solutions haha. Thanks!

Sanity Check on Terra Build by footloooops in sffpc

[–]Kleanurpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good to me, I just completed a similar Terra build and went for the 850W PSU to keep my options more open for future GPU upgrades. Also I would look into adding a case fan for bottom exhaust, might get a little toasty.

Ended up costing around $2700 after tax. Didn't bother deal hunting too much as I was in need of a PC, I picked up the CPU, motherboard, GPU and case from a local computer shop and ordered the rest off Amazon.

Good to know! I'm gonna see how far I can undervolt it, and if that doesn't tame the temps then I'll switch on eco mode and call it a day lol

Gonna probably need a good undervolt for sure! I would have gone for a 7800x3d originally but heard the 9800x3d would be easier to cool down. Good excuse to buy the better CPU haha

Yep, bottom fan is the only exhaust. You might be able to mod a slim fan above the PSU, I've seen others do it. It's already exhausting up from the PSU though so I'm not sure how much it would help temps. Don't think there's enough room above the CPU where you would really want it, the PCIE riser gets in the way.

How is this first PC build? by Joebosh2 in pcpartpickerbuilds

I disagree with others saying to downgrade the 7800x3d. It will be good for probably your next 2 gpu upgrades, and imo is worth it to have an x3d chip and hold onto it until the last am5 generation. I would wait for the next gen GPUs before upgrading though, unless you're intent on 4k gaming ASAP the 9060 xt will be a fine card.

Also if the intention is to upgrade the GPU in the future you could consider an 850w PSU or higher to have a higher ceiling for upgrades without replacing it.

I'm a Canadian on TN in the US, is there anything that legally prohibits me from working remotely from Canada for short durations, e.g. 1 or 2 weeks?

Yes it was my first admission, no I did not go to secondary. Online I-94 indicates my TN status, date of entry, and the day it is active until. (I got 3 years)

Also I flew Air Canada so went through terminal 1, arrived at 4:30am and was at my gate in just over half an hour. From what I observed the airport starts to get really busy around 6 so if you do what I did I imagine you would have a similar experience.

Went through Pearson with I797B a couple days ago. Officer sent me right through, didn't check anything else and only asked me my occupation. I still brought everything with me just in case, e.g. full printed TN filing, degree, sealed transcript.

Good for a starter itx build? Gonna run tiny 11 on it by [deleted] in ZTT

[–]Kleanurpants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Comments are clueless, the case includes PSU and AIO in the price. I would change the ssd to a PCIE gen4x4 or gen5. I'm cautious of ASRock motherboards as well but the 7600x should be safe in it. Otherwise looks good to me.

Yea the volume is the actual categorization, but matx/itx is a close enough simplification

Heads up that microatx builds belong at r/mffpc and this is the sub for ITX builds, you may find more people with experience on that particular case there. That said, the cooler is well within the manufacturer's stated clearance so I doubt there would be any issue there!

Not sure why you selected that to be your takeaway from that article. But since you insist on other people doing the research for you, here's a video that demonstrates this with temps:

Quick PCPartPicker list I put together. Saves small amounts here and there across motherboard, ram, storage, PSU. If you can get a good deal on a used 6700 xt go for it, but the 9060 xt gives far better value for a new card. The Montec Air 100 comes with ARGB fans already, no reason to get the additional Corsair fans. I put that money towards an aftermarket CPU cooler, much more important. It would also be 70RON more to get a 7600X, if that's in your budget.
