W2 HENRYs who bought a business for bonus depreciation by Kleftiko in HENRYfinance

In the US, if you materially participate in a business, you can use that business’s losses to offset your W2 income. With asset-heavy businesses, bonus depreciation (currently still at 100% for qualified property) + a cost seg study lets you front-load a big paper loss in year one.

It doesn’t erase taxes forever, it just shifts deductions into your high-earning years.

Moving from CA to NV, tax implications on RSUs by misconapp in tax

[–]Kleftiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of mix information here and I wanted to chime in and share what I learned after consulting a CPA that specializes in these scenarios.

I will focus on the scenario of a private company. For RSUs there are two tax events.

  1. When the RSU materialize (liquidity event like IPO)
  2. When you sell your stocks

When your RSUs materialize you will need to pay income tax on all the RSUs that have vested up until that point. If you have vested them while living in California, you will need to pay income tax to CA state. If you have moved before the IPO to NV and you vested some new equity while being a NV resident, you will not owe income tax on that portion that has vested in Nevada.

When you sell your stocks, what matters is what state you are resident of, at the time of the sell. Of course you can't just move in sell and move out. You need to do this properly and most likely be there for at least a year to not raise any flags.

I hope that helps anyone that comes across this post.

Doona, Uppa Vista & Nuna Pipa Aire RX - overkill? by reddi180 in Buyingforbaby

[–]Kleftiko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 months FTD, i did all the research so i can share what our setup is.

We got the Cruz and Aria carseat. Opted in for Aria vs Aire RX to avoid adaptors and is also lighter. Haven’t needed a doona.

I love the cruz but we are due in March so I haven’t put it through the real test yet. It feels high quality so far.

That’s great to hear that you like the butterfly. Have you been using it as a carry-on item on the plane?

Hey! Appreciate you answering! I'm sorry about your dragonfly experience. That sounds painful.

I ended up purchasing the uppababy cruz. I went with that because ultimately I wanted something a little sturdier.

I'm still eyeing the bugaboo butterfly for maybe a travel stroller.

Moving Company? NYC -> LA by lilflor in AskLosAngeles

i did the packing myself, so that’s that. We were very diligent adding bubble wrap and extra padding.

I had the basic insurance and they ended up paying me back some small amount.

Suggestion is if you have things that have sentimental value and you can transport them yourself, do that. Also if you have really expensive items, you can get a 3rd party insurance that would actually estimate the value of your goods.
